YAY! a bunch of stupid useless pointless ugly looking shaders .... *facepalm*
ps. you should have kept this secret forever
You don't get it, do you? Yes, those are useless shaders right now. They were made in a short time but just to prove a concept. In the near future people will be able to make their own, and maybe some quality ones like the GSLS shaders. This will be very useful for map and resource pack making.
The shaders are located in the assets folder in the .jar file, that means they can be changed or more can be added, maybe through a resource pack.
If the whole thing were just those useless shaders (though I kinda like some of them) I would agree with you.

I tried the water thing too, and I think it's part of the problem, but it only removed the extra lag from ocean monuments.
I'm praying for Optifine.

I wonder if it's only a few people who have this issue, because I just can't believe there isn't a big discussion about it like what happened with "poppies" or 3D doors.
This bug makes my game unplayable (for me) since all hostile mobs act like retards and are very easy to kill now, so it feels close to cheating with creative mode.
I've also noticed that you can hide from any hostile mob behind double tall grass... I can stop a creeper's explosion by getting behind one of those or avoid getting shot by a skeleton while I'm aproaching to it.
Something feels wrong with spiders too. They don't track me well even if there are no blocks between, and when they jump to "attack" me they usually don't hurt me at all.
Endermen flickering like crazy are also annoying. I remember I was looking at a tree at night when suddenly an Enderman passed by while teleporting 10 times/sec. After that I heard that scream and I knew he was angry with me... what the...?

Unlike you, I have performance issues (my game is still playable, tho), but yea, there's definitely something wrong with my hostile mobs: Anytime I damage them with anything, their AI "reset" and they stop tracking me for a second, in which they act like pigs or cows do. That means I can kill a Skeleton with my bare hands and with no armor without getting hit by a single arrow.

It's not something bad by itself; it's just the result of the implementation of threaded chunk rendering. That means Minecraft will use more CPU if available to make the game "faster". It now loads chunks way faster if you have a multi-core CPU, but that's the only improvement I see (performance-wise) in 1.8.

Steve was not removed. You have a 50% chance of getting either Steve or Alex by default. If you have Alex, download the Steve skin and use it just like you use a custom skin.

Not a bug, just a new crafting recipe

A don't see an argument there.
Are you... seriously talking about witches in 1.8... k.
Anyways, so how is a big black dragon, an alternate dimension to hell, a flying and crying squid that shoots fireballs or a green jelly cube somehow better for a "mining/building" game?
I seriously don't know what people think when making that kind of posts. People just like to complain about every single new feature without a reason. That happened with 3D snouts for pigs, roses being renamed as poppies, minecarts, redstone, horses... everything, but what happens with that then?: People unconsciously just get used to it and accept it as a part of Minecraft, because they realize this: If someone starts playing Minecraft for the first time, do you think they will care about "poppies" at all? Or bunnies? Or guardians? Or they will complain about how 3D snouts for pigs break the game?!? NO, not at all!

So? The point of the post you replied to is still valid, because although rabits don't give leather directly they do it indirectly.

Is this guy serious?! LOL! I mean, are you cereal, man? The only other thing that has made me laugh that hard here was this.
Of course it's the game! It only happens in Miencraft, in 1.8, both high and low-end PCs. Sure some people get good performance improvements, but you just can't go full retard and say "Oh, so you have performance issues with 1.8? Well, too bad cuz I don't, so you can't complain!"
Nobody here is complaining about doors, ocean monuments, mutton, etc. we're complaining about "optimizations"; 1.8 was supossed to give a big performance improvement for everyone, but it's not working at all for a big part of Minecraft players. In fact performance haven't been worse since Minecraft came out.
We're already in 1.8-pre3, the full 1.8 update comes in two days and this isn't fixed yet, so what do you expect users, whose game became unplayable, to say? "Oh thank you so much Mojang for all the new features. I can't play the game because the maximium frames per second I get are 10 but otherwise it's great!" That's almost as senseless as your post. I love most changes in 1.8, but the performance hit ruins it all for a lot of the players.
If you seriously have to ask that then I'm certainly sure you haven't read those posts at all. At best you only read the titles.

If you mean that you can change the textures and models of blocks now (only the aspect), but not their functions, then yes.

Example of a resource pack that can add 3D details to some existing blocks:

How many mods are there? How many features do mods offer? How many ideas are in those mods? Thousands? more? So someone makes a nice mod which includes a nice aesthetic feature, that anyone could have think off, and Mojang, who maybe never saw that mod, can no longer add it to vanilla Minecraft? Or maybe a mod maker thinks of a very nice idea, Mojang sees it, and thinks it would be nice to have it in vanilla Minecraft, but they can't add it? The feature that is already in the mod can't be added because it's redundant, since everyone uses mods and, specifically, that mod?
People really are stupid.

You're only mentioning gameplay/survival things but not commands, mapmaking features, optimizations (kind of broken but done right could be awesome) that include hyperthreading, culling alghoritms, etc; etc.
Sure 300 days is too much considering they added less survival/gameplay features compared to previous updates, but the sad thing is that even if people don't use or care about other kind of changes/features, those changes/features still count.

Officially, yes, but who cares if they're 'officially' genderless? Does that change their appearance? No: It doesn't make Steve look genderless with his apparent beard, just as it doesn't make Alex look genderless with her long hair.
