I've been playing since alpha and by far the worst update for me was 1.4 because it added a lot of stuff I didn't care about and made water bad. Honestly I was probably one of the few that hated biomes for the longest time but got used to it and now i feel they are fine with the addition of more differentiating features in them.
In all seriousness I think obsidian tools would be a cool addition to the game but make them as follows:
Can only mine what stone can mine(stone, coal, iron)
Mine as fast as iron or maybe slightly slower
Durability somewhere between iron and diamond
This would give a good amount of incentive to use them w/o obsoleting anything but stone which honestly who cares if we have less use for stone in terms of tools.
I had this issue a while ago as well. My friend told me it had something to do with NVidia cards and being on far so I started playing on normal draw distance and have not seen a single black screen since.
Do I think they were right about the issue?
No
Have I had an issue since I changed to normal?
No
I don't know what caused it but the point is that it's something everyone with this issue should try cause generally normal isn't that bad.
I agree with this. Some days I'm fine for the most part and get only like 1 BS a hour and other days its just not worth playing it is so bad. Everything is updated and my computer should be able to eat minecraft alive but alas I am doomed to the realm of the BS.
Yeah while I'm not locking up I have noticed a general performance drop lately which is weird as I should be able to run this no problem. My computer is a good computer and I don't know what the issue is.

I'll try without the TP but why would it have any effect on the stability of the game? Its only a 16X16 pack so why would a feature implement by Notch cause stability issues?
So recently I've been getting an abnormally large number of blackscreens. The only nonstandard thing I'm using is Painterly Pack which should have no affect on it since its a texture pack. The blackscreens are making the game unplayable almost as they occur every 10 minutes max. I've tried deleting everything but my saves and the problem persist so if anyone has any advice can you please help me. I just want to get back to enjoying minecraft.
I have used inv edit once to restore my items after a BSOD because I was in the middle of building a minecart tunnel and it grinded my diamond pick and sword.
Cobble to me still is the easiest thing to get but they both have their place. Its great though that they made it natural now because collecting the sand to make things from took forever.
