When it comes to single player and finding good seeds I more or less go into creative mode and either type in random seeds or just let the world randomly generate and hope for the best. I don't really like looking for seeds on the internet because I like to not know exactly what I'm going to get. For your case and using updated minecraft versions I'd go with what ShelLuser said and use AMIDST.
In my personal opinion I didn't really like the new 1.9 combat physics. The main reason for this was more or less because I became so accustomed to just spam clicking when a hostile mob was in front of me, also because that's the way the combat physics were since...well...combat. I'm not going to lie though, the new physics are extremely handy for one-hit mob farms where all you have to do is swing your sword once and everything is dead compared to spam clicking and killing every individual mob.
Why is it that anytime Minecon is in the U.S its hosted in the farthest possible location from where I live. I was hoping somewhere like Chicago but oh well.

Absolutely amazing, I am truly impressed. I'm creating a modpack for myself and this is going to save me ALOT of time when it comes to doing misc. things.

3. Skills/passions/things you enjoy in Minecraft: Mining, definitely my passion, I also like to build large structures and buildings that have purposes (industrial farming, etc.)
4. Stuff you love! (IRL!). Movies, music, artists, sports, places, foods, etc. Whatever you want, as long or as short as you like. Just to get to know you!: I'm what you would consider an "obsessive" gamer. I play a lot of misc. games, Minecraft being my favorite since it's release back in 2009. I do some other things but their too insignificant to list here.
5. How often will you be on?: I'll try to be on as much as possible, I have a limited internet connection at my house which means I can't play as much as I want to. I'll do my best to be on at least 2 hours a day. If I'm not on for what you'd consider a long period of time the cause of this would probably mean my data has maxed out and I can't get on. There's a long story behind why I can't get a normal "router" Internet connection and I really don't want to explain it here.
Additional notes: I hope I can join this server, there's a couple of questions I'd like to ask.
1. How many people are normally on? (Minecraft multiplayer just isn't the same without other people.)
2. Do you need a server Banner/Logo? I'd be willing to try my best and make one for you.

Are you using 1.7.10 forge? I tried loading it and nothing happened, it said it wasn't in the mods folder even though it was.

Down yet again, I love beta and all but keeping the server up is annoying sometimes.

I really wish you would update this to 1.7.10, I'm not sure if your even working on it anymore but still if you are I highly recommend it.
