posted a message on Looking For Pure Vanilla Server

Looking for a pure vanilla server. Don't mind if there's like a log block plugin or whatever as long as there's no admin abuse and the game is fair for everyone. I want to get the real vanilla minecraft experience and play with some friends. Prefer a pretty active server maybe 5 people on at any given time.

    Thanks,

    Phantom

EDIT: Please move this if it's in the wrong section. Also it's java version that I play on.

posted a message on Some questions about performance

In general, is Minecraft more CPU or GPU dependent?

    - Minecraft will generally default to whichever of your parts are more powerful (CPU/GPU) Back when I was using a high end i3 and my 1080 ti GTX processor, the game ran off of my GPU and when I upgraded to a powerful i5 it started running off of that.

Do settings like render distance, render regions, and chunk updates rely more on RAM or CPU?

    - It's going to be just like any other game you play. Your computer will process all of the information the same. It'll split the load between the two parts for opimal performance. Depending on the parts you have. Some older computers may rely more on the CPU because that's the general go to but any modern day gaming PC will be optimized to make the best use of both parts.

Is there a maximum amount of RAM Minecraft will cap it's use at and will allocating too much RAM affect the game?

    - There isn't a max. It doesn't matter how much you allocate to Minecraft. Obviously, you can't dedicate more to the game than what your computer recommends. Some people suggest always leaving at least 1.5GB for system processes, but it doesn't really matter your computer will never use more than it has. If you have 4GB RAM you don't want to dedicate all 4GB to Minecraft because it will still try to use all of your RAM. If you have 8GB you can dedicate the entire 8GB and unless you are just being ridiculous (amplified world, extreme redstone/TNT builts simultaneously) you'll never cap out. Minecraft isn't as RAM intensive as it is CPU.

In reference to the previous question...in the f3 debug screen, how does "memory" and "allocated memory" work together and what is the optimal balance?

    - Simple, allocated is the percentage of the allocated memory you have to minecraft that you are using. For example; in screenshot 1 you are using 81% of the 4GB that you have allocated. Screenshot 2 is maxed out at 8GB allocated because Minecraft will only allow to allocate up to 8GB to the game an no more than that. Optimal would be really anything under 80% as long as you stay there and under you don't risk spiking out and getting frame drops. Generally 80% is a fine hover area for an optimal gaming experience.

posted a message on Sudden FPS Drops

You mentioned you've had your PC for a while. It could just be a memory leak. Maybe you are using all of your RAM or CPU.

A good way to find this out would be to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, open task manager and go to performance. Keep an eye on these charts during your lag spikes and see if any of them are capping out at 100%. That would be a good way to gauge if it is a hardware issue.

If it's a software issue maybe check your surroundings in-game. I've been using my gaming PC for about 6 years now as well and I find that some redstone builds/over breeding animals can bring my frames down whereas 3-4 years ago I would run easily over 600 FPS. Computers just age man, it's a fact of life. Gotta upgrade them almost as often as a console.

Lmk how your PC performs using that chart and I can probably help pinpoint the exact cause of your issues.

posted a message on Pls I need help

I used to think the same thing, and it always feels like lag.. Best thing I've found to do is if you find yourself getting hit and unable to hit the other player is to back off a bit, run away and then re-engage in the fight and generally your hits will start registering. It almost feels like if they get you in that reach disadvantage it's almost impossible to get out of. I used to think everyone I came across in survival games was using reach mods.

posted a message on Can you give me some Server info please?

For vanilla you generally just load up and start playing. Especially if you are getting it hosted through a third party, they usually default to most up-to-date vanilla Minecraft. So long as you don't go in and physically make any changes it should be ready to play.

If you only plan on playing with a few people at a time in vanilla, a simple 4 GB server should suffice. I would say probably getting one hosted on the west coast to keep ping at a minimum for you and the NA players. When you start modding it, you'll have to take into account how many mods and what kind of mods you are using and it's really just going to depend on that.
