I was always against this laptop thing because you know kids are going to drop them, not saying you but there's a high chance with this because almost every school is doing it now. School districts must account for that. I keep thinking this is a public school because that's the stuff they try to pull. Private schools can take losses and they make profit without any government policies. A laptop is much more easier to break than a tablet, much more. When you break a screen on a laptop (let alone a netbook). I HATE netbooks for this very reason. A netbook you can break the hard drive, break a hinge off the screen, the screw will sometimes get loose and make the hinge pop out of place, etc. If you drop a tablet it's gonna be cheaper to fix and the worst you're going to do is either crack the screen or dent the case, rarely are you ever going to damage the digitizer. Netbooks are low quality and should be abolished for anyone's use.

It's not about letting them get away with it, it's about doing your job as an educational institution. I would have kids but when we gotta educate them in a world that we do it now, they don't deserve it and they are better off where they are now. Hate it.

Don't forget that they draw inappropriate pictures on them, break off the keys, damage the screen, install malware, hack into them, etc.

    It wouldn't look so good...

    1. They would nerf down all of the enemies to make them do a very small amount of damage.

    2. Swords would be replaced with balloon swords.

    3. You would no longer be able to kill animals.

    4. No more hunger.

    5. You will have to become a member to do certain things like go to the Nether or end.

    6. Castes with valuable and OP loot every 50 blocks.

    7. Very little free-roaming because it will be a story.

    8. Re-textured mobs to make them kid-friendly.

    9. No more caves because kids are afraid of the dark.

    10. No more dying, when you reach 0 hearts, you can roam around, but not interact with anything and wait for 5 minutes for you to gain 10 hearts back.

    11. Zombies would be removed.

    12. Skeletons would no longer shoot arrows, they would throw pies which deal 1 heart of damage.

    13. Bows completely removed. Replaced with throwable pies.

    14. You no longer drop your inventory.

    15. TNT would only do 3 hearts at max and explode rainbows.

    16. Creepers explode rainbows.

    17. Emeralds are changed to Disney coins, which can be bought in different packs. you start with 20 first.

    • 10 Disney coins = $1
    • 55 Disney coins = $5
    • 120 Disney coins = $11
    • 250 Disney coins = $20
    18. Villagers currency are Disney coins

    19. Disney characters are added in which throw parties every 10 Minecraft days that you are forced to join.

    20. No swearing in chat

    21. Everyone would be able to play on only one world-wide server.

    22. Stricter rules

    23. Turned into a browser-based game

    24. You are not allowed to play on previous versions

    25. Modding is illegal

    26. I'm done with this list

I checked DakTech's website and they have a 7 year warranty. Come on, they can easily replace that for free. There's no way that netbook is that old. Makes you wonder if they just got the cheapest buyer and wasn't even paying attention to that. It's a scam, that's what I'm saying.

And if they did get the cheapest buyer, they were probably used before. And because one of them broke by itself, they have to make the student pay the price when they did nothing wrong.

Well its not the whole computer that's broken, just the harddrive, so worst comes to worst buy a cheap 2.5 inch hdd for it (assuming that the hard drive is replaceable, which it probably isn't, so this advice is useless.) What is the model of the netbook?

I don't know the model, but the brand is a DakTech netbook. the model sticker was nowhere to be seen.

If they take you to court I don't see how they could blame you without evidence that you broke it. You told them and you showed them the sounds. I know there's a way to prove you didn't do it and that's reading SMART. There's a circuit board that stores that information so the hard drive doesn't even have to run. It could be a bearing though that has failed. Unless of course you dropped it.

You couldn't get me to pay the $300 I can tell you that right now. They just want to make money.

The only problem is that I can't get in the BIOS to read the SMART data. They locked it with a password. And the hard drive failed while I was trying to boot into Safe Mode.

And I didn't drop the Netbook.

What do your parents have to say about all this? Do you have any evidence in writing or similar of raising the noise issue before it broke? This thread, for one, would be at least some level of proof. Screenshot it all.

Are you in a public or private school? Is there a district... head, I guess, that is a level above the principal? If yes, go to them and explain what has happened.

It is a private school. And my parents are really mad to where they are to the point of homeschooling me. I took screenshots of the thread just in case they are actually going to take me to court.

It wasn't your fault, you shouldn't feel pressured to give in and say that it was, so just don't. You alerted them to the problem prior to it escalating, they should have dealt with it then, blaming you is bad form. Who exactly did you speak to when you first brought up the issue? Did you take them the netbook to be looked at?

The principal should be aware that you were looking to get it looked at prior to it needing a replacement, go to him if the IT dept are being childish and won't admit they were wrong.

I took it to the school tech department first. They looked at it, and told me that the Hard Drive is suppose to make those loud noises. I told him that the tech department was making me pay for something that I didn't break, but he said that I had 5 days to pay up, or I would be taken to court. And its because he believes in school the tech department and not in actual IT professionals.

Wow.... That school's tech deparment is a fool, now mow or shovel snow till you get 300 dollars

That might take at least a couple of months. I would rather file a lawsuit against the school for making me pay for something that I did not break.

Well thats alot of flip flap. "Internet making computer turning slow". I would consult the principal about this and explain.

I did consult the principle and explained the whole issue, but the principle believes only in what the school tech department says. I actually snuck it home with me so my dad(who is an IT professional) could look at it, and he said that the Hard Drive is failing.

EDIT: The Had Drive just failed today. Tried to start it up, it made a loud grinding noise and the computer shut down. When I turned it back on, it was trying to boot off of the LAN. And the Hard Drive would not spin up at all. Contacted the school, and they claimed that I broke it. So now I'm $299.99 in the hole.

I'm trying to decide whether websites on the last page of Google should be on the list. I feel like the list can get a bit unorganized if we include sites like "repostsites.website.freewebsites.com/mods". Any input?

It was not on the last page of Google. I tried to search for my Minecraft Weebly site that I made, and that came up along with other mod repost sites. Also, the site did not give any images of the files, did not link to the original threads, did not give credit to the original creators, and the files are hosted on the site itself.

You certainly have no knowledge about copyright. Mojang has NO ownership over mods. Modders have made their mods from scratch, and aren't redistributing any Minecraft source, meaning mods aren't derivatives, but copyrighted creations. Redistribution of those works is illegal. I have taken down several mirrors of my mods.

I feel like making an educational blog post about this...

Good post. Also, are some of the sites that people are finding added to the list, like this huge offender that I found?

Reminds me of my server experience. I became online friends with this one player. We made a decent faction it grew large we suffered one major grief in the beginning nothing serious. We moved and made a new faction, recruited many player it wasn't bad in till the mod set a warp to are faction before you knew it are enemy factions were warping there and killing us.I left the server for a month or two,to only find are faction was destroyed.:(

That server sounds like a piece of crap, corrupt server with abusive admins and players that sit in their mom's basement while griefing and trolling innocent people.

Hmm, I guess it's story time.

I too, was a former player of this server the OP spoke of. My adventure starts a month later--late July of 2014 after being introduced to it by my brother. Having only played Minecraft for a couple months, I was only familiar with the minigame type of Minecraft multiplayer servers (SG in particular). This was my first time in a more 'MMORPG' kind of server on Minecraft--Towny--and I absolutely loved it.

I ended up spending all of my free time there, in addition to donating about $300 USD to help support the server and show them my thanks. I had also asked my two amazing, amazing town mayors if there was a way I could donate to them, as they were pretty much the reason for me staying on the server. $100 indirectly went to them, which I used to donate to the server so that the town would be able to claim more plots.

I don't really like complaining so I'm going to try and wrap things up now. Hopefully you've got the idea that I consider myself to be a good player for a server to have. I was pretty active, especially since this was my first time having this experience on Minecraft, and I've always been the type of person who helped everyone. I think I can safely say that I did not make any enemies on there.

And then the whole Kismet and Valhalla situation happened as the OP already mentioned. The 'staff' nation started spying on our every moves trying to look for something wrong, it felt like. (I wanted to show you a screenshot to accompany this next story and I just spent the last half an hour trying to find it, but it appears as if I never took one.) Out of the blue, one of the 'secret' admins whispers me and asks me if I used a forge client to obtain all of my enchanted gear (I was known on the server for selling 'god' sets, or fully enchanted gear).

I'm the kind of guy who used to make formulas to determine the cost of a weapon given its attack power, for example, so I had created a simple Excel calculator to determine the amount of levels required to combine two pieces of gear. Anyway, I bring that up because during my research, I had learned that the symbols that appear while enchanting mean absolutely nothing. Your enchant was determined (on 1.7) upon click, so it was impossible to predict what you would get. Nonetheless, I was accused of using a forge mod which apparently tells you the result of an enchantment.

Was highly applaud, especially hearing this from an 'upper' staff member and particularly when I have done nothing but help grow the community at the server. It sort of just kept spiralling downwards there, and it was clear our group was being picked on in particular.

I mean, I get it... Gaming can often become very personal, but this is something that cannot happen from an owner/admin--those required to remain impartial at all times, and even more so in situations like these.

Let's skip the rest. It was just a slow build I guess. I got sick of it and left to create my own server soon after that, but still hopping on to say hi to friends and participate in Towny war every weekend. It was obvious I was not as active as I once was, but I was still the same person and followed every one of their server rules.

I came on for my last war sometime in October or November of 2014. It was uneventful so I left half way. I came back on after the war to check out how it was and I get disconnected. "Recruiting for rival server via Skype and Realms."

Uhhmm, what? Not only was it for a ridiculous reason, but it also was not true, and they had no evidence that that was the case. All of my Skype contacts from that server I had before I even made my own server, and who, given just a little bit of problem solving skills and Java knowledge, would want to pay for a realms server when they could get better at less than half the price? I never had a realms server, and I had only learned what realms was maybe a month before that when another friend of mine from the server made one.

They were in for a good dispute from me. Or... not. I did not receive a permanent ban on the forums like my brother did, but I was informed that I was banned by the owner himself, that he would not be unbanning me, and that they had recently modified the wording in a forums thread that a buddy of mine posted. I finally concluded that doing so would just waste my time...

So that's my story. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

That was so sad. You should file a charge back your money that you donated to the server.
