Are you using modded or un-modded Minecraft? Also, show us the full crash report, not a small section of it.

posted a message on So...This new launcher has some HUGE issues and should not have been released

With logs shown, it initially used 1000MB of RAM and spawned a 4th process (log viewer), but quickly reduced back down to low usage. CPU usage was not affected by the 4th process. (2nd screenshot)

Oh wow. So I guess the logs are rendered in Chromium(Chrome Browser) now, which results in the high memory usage. Incredibly pathetic, the person that thought it was a good idea to do that should be immediately fired and taken back to programming school. Also note that leaving the log open for a long enough period of time(around 15-30 minutes) causes the launcher to crash.

I tried it again on a Windows 10 machine. Again, even after leaving the program running for 10 minutes, it still used barely any resources.

On this computer, it still never used more than 70MB of memory between all of it's 3 instances (two background processes, one foreground app) and more than 0.3% (scale of 1-100%) of the CPU. This is definitely more than the resources used on macOS, but that's still barely any consumption.

As an experiment, I ran the old java launcher, and interestingly it used far more resources than the new one, peaking at 5% of the CPU and 300MB of RAM.

Maybe it's something your computer is doing simultaneously that's causing the launcher to allocate 500+MB of RAM?

Could you make a couple screenshots like the ones Ravbug made? Maybe that gives someone an idea why you are experiencing this.

OK guys, here is a screenshot of Task Manager and the Minecraft Launcher side-by-side. Additional info is in the image provided. As it was scrolling through the news, that is when the RAM started to build up drastically.

OK, I'll get some screenshots when I get home.

Arceus does not belong in Suliqu, and therefore is not in the Suliqu Pokédex.

Oh, OK. Do you unlock a national Pokedex in the game, or is it on the website anywhere?

Well I don't know why you are not experiencing the resource issue. I use Windows 7 with Avast Antivirus, if that makes a difference. The RAM usage goes up as more images are displayed on the news page until it reaches about 500MB.

That is strange for it to use that many resources. I left the program running for 10 minutes and the CPU usage never peaked above 3% and it never used more than 37MB of RAM. I will note that 23 threads is a bit much though.

Well MacOS doesn't use the Chromium Embedded Framework, so your RAM usage won't be incredibly high.

I've not had any issues with resource usage despite having a 32 bit computer (OS) with only 3.25 GB of (usable) RAM, barely more than my old computer, which had 3 GB, the main difference being a much better CPU and GPU. Maybe the people that do think that Minecraft requires 8 GB of RAM to itself, when I've never seen it allocate 100% of even 512 MB, stabilizing at around 60-70% after several hours of gameplay, and that's with mods (the high resource usage of many mods is due to poor programming practices, and probably the way Forge works, as opposed to directly modifying the code as Mojang does when they add new features; vanilla memory usage has not increased much since Beta or even earlier despite the equivalent of a major modpack's worth of features being added. Even 1.8+ does not need that much memory, just a good CPU so the garbage collector can deal with its excessive object allocation without affecting performance. The main reason for more memory is if you use higher render distances, as memory usage is mainly dependent on render distance and is a square function).

Not talking about the game. I'm talking about how the LAUNCHER is using a huge amount of resources. 32 bit programs use less memory than 64 bit programs, so of course you will have lower RAM usage. It is still absurd that a launcher is using upwards of 500MB of RAM after leaving it open for a few minutes.

Why is Arceus not in the Pokedex? Is it not obtainable in the game?

And uses 10 times as much system resources.[/b]

Yeah, the whole reason for that is because the launcher uses the Chromium Embedded Framework, basically the Chrome browser, to render all of the menus now. I guess the developers didn't realize that not everyone has high-end gaming computers that have 8GB+ or RAM.

posted a message on Minecraft causes screen to go weird colours?

If it's just going to a white screen, then it's probably the display driver crashing. Experienced the same issue on Windows 10 before I ditched it and installed Windows 7. Never experienced the issue since. Try using another OS while playing Minecraft. If Minecraft doesn't cause the white screen to appear on the other OS, then it is a problem with Windows 10. Otherwise if the white screen appears again in the other OS, then it is a hardware issue.

posted a message on Change your passwords IMMEDIATELY!

A major vulnerability for ALL websites that use CloudFlare have been affected by an exploit known as CloudBleed. This exploit has allowed for passwords for millions of websites to be leaked, including MinecraftForums and possibly other Minecraft-related sites. It is suggestion that you use 2FA(2-factor-authecation) and changer your passwords for any accounts on any sites immediately, since a huge number of sites were effected by this glitch.

You can view the unofficial lists of sites effected by this exploit(it's really long and curse.com is at the top of the list) here: https://github.com/pirate/sites-using-cloudflare

You can read the official statement about this bug by CloudFlare here: https://blog.cloudflare.com/incident-report-on-memory-leak-caused-by-cloudflare-parser-bug/

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section. I was rushing to get this out as this is one of the biggest CloudFlare vulnerabilities in the past few years.

posted a message on Microsoft using Minecraft PE to secretly collect data about YOUR device without permission!
    Quote from Jocopa3»

The whole point of having automatic crash reporting is so that they don't have to rely on poorly worded bug reports to fix issues, and so they can see if a fix they applied for a previous issue actually worked on all devices. The device ID generated by HockeyApp is randomly generated and don't mean anything; same with the session and user ID's. They don't identify who you are in any way. On top of that, none of the data being sent would contain account info, emails, or other data that would actually be considered personal data, so what's the problem? The data sent is completely useless for any purpose other than to get performance and crash reports.

Any website you visit can find out more information about you than what's listed in Mojang's crash reports; for example, a website can know: what device you're using, what OS you use, whether or not your battery is charging, how long it's been charging for, and what percentage it's at, what city you live in, how often you visit the site, and more, all without your knowledge or consent. So to worry about something as tame as crash reporting is completely misplaced.

And that is why I use extensions like AdBlock Plus and Ghostly with them set to block everything. I still don't like how these crash reports are being sent withoyt my knowledge at all, and why they never put in an option to turn off the automated crash reporting like in the PC edition of the Minecraft.

    -snip-

Well as soon as I see "Microsoft" in the name of the offending files, then I have every right to assume it is Microsoft. Also, even if the data isn't personal, I still don't want it to be upload data to a huge database. Either way, here is an image of the file: http://imgur.com/2GHEILR

If what you say about the crash reports doesn't contain personal info, then I should not have to blur anything out. This is the most recent file I found in the folder. My User, Device, and Session ID is listed, which is unique to my Device. Which means they can find out more info about my device if they wanted to.

And like I said before, it is not hard to remove a small little development feature from the public release.

HockeyApp is used for in-house beta testing. The public release of the game doesn't use HockeyApp at all. The only reason it remains in the app is because they don't keep track of to separate versions of the app for in-house beta-testing and public release.

So put your tinfoil hat away, Microsoft isn't using Minecraft to spy on you.

It isn't that hard to remove a simple library or function from an app. Also, beta versions are never released on iOS, so there is no need to include this HockeyApp library or something.
