Well Notch could use some of all the money he earned on a big awesome computer to use as a server. With 25050 Euro you should be able to get a server that could run a 1024*1024*1024 server with ALOT of people on it.
How about some sort of function block? Simply just a block that creates a certain block at a certain spot.
Let me explain deeper:
Lets say that one place you have this one block, lets call it block A. Another place you have Block B.
When you step on to Block A, a block (perhaps of the one you currently have selected) will spawn on top of/on the bottom of Block B.
That would allow doors and opening of windows and such. Oh yeah AND AWESOME FLOODING WAYS! Would make TheOne's lava survival better, by having the admin waiting somewhere and stepping on to a button that releases one level of lava.
And also, combine it with that Light block you're talking about and you'd have switchable lights!
Oh yeah and about the 1/8 size block.
That would cause the game to lag 8 times as much!
