How do you use Garage Band to clean up the audio?

I just do a couple simple things. I run my mic into my built in input. And set the output to be Soundflower. Wich is a free program. Wich I set as my input on quicktime.

As for what I actually do in Garageband I set a noise gate. It helps to cut out sounds quieter then whatever level I set it to. Wich will cut out a lot of back ground noise. It however still lets in noise while you are talking. So if you have a loud fan or something it may cut it out in the silence but it will be heard when you speak. So for stuff like that I set a low pass filter. Wich cuts out a lot of the noises that are higher then i need for my videos. That smooths out the sound a little. Then from there if there is something humming or ringing that is annoying me enough i will find the general frequency range for it and turn it down a little bit with a graphic or parametric EQ. I don't turn it down too much though. If i cut out too much it will make everything else sound kind of funny. It's more about finding the balance that subdues it enough to make it more of a background and puts what you want in the foreground enough to keep your focus away from it. Though luckily i don't have any humming or extra noise really in my recordings. I've put some effort into cleaning up my recording space. I have some blankets on the ceiling and am working to get some new sound foam panels I bought set up around the walls behind and beside me.

posted a message on Good Mics to Use?
It all depends on the kind of sound you want. look up videos for some of the different recommended mics. I'm using an MXL 990 at the moment. Mine was about 70 dollars but I'm using the analogue condenser. There is a USB version of it for 120 dollars or so. But wether or not you like it for that price is up to you.

posted a message on Microphone specs.. is it good?
I'm assuming that if you have the specs you know what mic you are looking at. I tried to search a couple of the specs to figure out what it was. I couldn't match anything up to these though. As the previous comments have stated your going to more likely want a cardioid mic and not an omnidirectional. Judging by the 3.5 input and the 100Hz to 16KHz frequency response I'm going to guess your looking at a headset. Overall for a simple vocal mic those are not bad. You really aren't going to need much more. But I do recommend that you try and find examples of it being used and judge for yourself if you like the sound. Because even if the mic has good response it may not be built well and could have bad sound pollution or simple lack of clarity or quality from flaws in it's design or manufacturing. If you link it though it would be wasier to know and make a judgement. Even just knowing the make and/or model as stated will help.

posted a message on Recording Game Sound on Macbook Pro
Soundflower is good. But if you want to record your voice and it you'll need to understand input and outputs and you'll want to get aidtional software like Ladiocast. My trick is actually really simple. I have a splitter plugged into my headphone jack. I have my headphones in one side to hear the audio and the other runs through an aux Y cable into one of the stereo channels on my mixer. Wich I have my vocal mic plugged into. So when I run the mixer back into the computer it's sending my commentary and game audio all together. Then I run that through garageband to clean it up and set Garageband's output to soundflower 2(ch) and set that as the input on Quicktime. However you can just do that and set your audio input on Quicktime to built-in line-in. That way it's just recording what's plugged directly in from the mixer. Though I'm going to give a wild guess and say it's unlikely that you have a mixer.

The experiences here seem to be petty mixed. My video turns out fine for the most part. There is some very slight lag but to be fair I think that it comes down to a lot more then the program I'm using to capture. I use Quicktime to record my videos. I'm currently running with 8GB of RAM, I run Minecraft at 120 fps at 8 chunks for my render distance with an HD texture pack that is a frankenstein of 128 and 256 bit textures, while recording at the highest quality available to me. I patch my sound through Garageband in real time to help clean the audio and run that through soundflower to Quicktime for the audio. If i did not patch through Garageband, use an HD texture pack, have normal render distance and all of my video settings turned up I'm sure I'd have perfectly fine video. But what i have works well enough to not be unbearable. At least for me. If you want to see how it worked out for me you can watch one of my random videos here.

posted a message on Suggestions For Starting a New Let's Play
I'm kind of in the same boat as you. i had a channel before but account complications prompted me to close it and start over with a channel that was not all messed up. I'm just doing it for the fun of it on the side but it would be nice for it to get some views. So my advice.

1.Lot's of personality. I struggle with this one because I feel like I'm being very enthusiastic and listen to my commentary and realize I sound bored and tired.

2.make sure your audio is clean and clear. Good mic, Good recording environment and anything else you need to have the best sound you can. Wether it be a god interface or some good software. I've seen a lot of really entertaining videos held back by bad audio.

3.for your speech I suggest that you record yourself and practice talking into a mic until you speak the way you want to. Slow down is good advice. But be sure you are aware how you sound on your recordings.

4.Try and edit your videos to make them feel a little more natural. I'm not very good at this one and it's a skill I hope to learn as time goes on.

Just a couple simple things that i can contribute. And for the views, It depends on a million factors. How well you promote your work is one. Not how much but how cleverly. How good the content itself actually is and how it holds up to things in a similar vein. If the people viewing it are wanting to share and of course how lucky you are with viewers. Also on a small side note. Don't monazite your channel until you have a steady fan base. People hate ads and will only deal with them to see something they are really interested in. If your not established and don't have a dedicated fan base then having ads on your videos might push away potential fans more then draw them in. Good luck with your channel and I'd love to see a video when you get one out.

So this is just a silly video I made. I'm no master editor. There are some fun continuity errors and of course with an HD texture pack, video capturing, moving redstone circuits and mine carts, flashing animated textures and that many mobs in one place my frame rate is going to be a bit low. But hopefully you enjoy. The song I use is done by a local band that you can find at the link below.

posted a message on Resourcepack Crash. Looking For Advice
I've been having a problem for the last couple of weeks with Minecraft. For well over a year I've been using a 256 x 256 texture pack. After re downloading Minecraft in an attempt to fix a different problem I seem to have changed something. Now it will no longer support my resource pack. I didn't change my game version. so I know it worked with the version I was playing and I had it working with the new snapshot before re downloading. I know my computer can handle the texture pack. I've tried allowing Minecraft more RAM to run the program but nothing changes. I don't know if it's not working because I have a new version of the launcher that won't load fast enough to launch with my texture pack or if there is a problem with Java. I'm not very technical but i will attach one of the crash reports. If someone has some advice to make the launcher or java run faster or some trick i can use to get the pack working again that would be much appreciated.

And to be clear i understand the problem is the size of the textures. What i don't understand is why it suddenly has a problem with the size of the textures.

Do F3 + T. The textures should reload, does this resolve it?

Unfortunately no. When I do that it freezes for a minute. And when it's done being frozen nothing has changed.

I'm not very technical so I have no idea what's happening or how to fix it. I've had this problem since at least 1.5.2. I use 256x256 resolution texture packs. When i switch to my pack I will go back into the world and my textures will occasionally not load. Some items will appear and mobs spawn and appear just fine but I seem to be standing in a voice with nothing but the block highlighter to give me any sense of terrain. Below is a screen capture I took of it. This does not always happen so I can play Minecraft just fine if I'm lucky enough for it to work. I don't know if the problem is on Minecraft's end or my resource pack or Java but i'd like to get it fixed.
