posted a message on [Collection] Mithey's Maps ~ Terra Restore and More!

Hello, this post is regarding Terra Restore 2.

First off, I'd just like to say how wonderful of a map this is. One of the best I've seen.

In the download section, you list a few 1.9 bugs that affect the map. However, I believe you have missed this one, MC-96269. In The Gentle Riverside (and maybe other areas, I haven't gotten very far yet) there are skeletons that spawn riding boats, but they don't shoot at you, the animation just loops.

Just thought I would make you aware. Thanks!

EDIT: Link doesn't seem to work for some reason... To anyone wondering, just do a search on https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/

You have a good point with the redstone thing, it is sort of making everything simpler for yourself as soon as you start using command blocks. My only concern with this is that people might start abusing this feature, and nobody would do any "real" redstone anyone, sort of killing off complex redstone builds. (A.K.A. If people can take the easy way out they will, and no one will even bother to do actual redstone)

I'll keep talking tomorrow, but that's it for me tonight. Thanks to both of you for your input!

I guess I would have to agree with that in a way. My idea with this was that it would only be usable for powering command blocks, as not to oversimplify redstone (which is supposed to make you think), so the power level could be cut. Also, going with the more complicated idea you could activate multiple command chains with a single activate/power/whatever command. You also wouldn't have to deal with coordinates at all, just remembering the channel name you set in the receiver. But yeah, I suppose a simpler method (like the single command) might be better in the long run.

I've looked it up, and I assume you mean the powered byte tag. To my understanding, this tag does activate the command block, but the tag remains a 1b until a block update occurs or it's set back to 0b. This is almost no better than setblock, as you will still have to change something back afterward.

I totally understand your argument that "it's just one extra command", but (as previously mentioned) on a large scale custom map, it is an annoyance at the least and a complete nightmare at the worst. Some maps require tens of chains of command blocks just for one area, but having to write out these extra commands for each and every chain just seems redundant.

Even if the entire concept were simplified down to just the command: /activate x y z to activate just a single command block and queue it for processing on the next game tick. I still feel that something to similar effect of this would greatly benefit almost every avid command block user out there.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware that you can use setblock, but my point is that using setblock gets to be quite a hassle on a large scale (like an adventure map). Also I was not aware of blockdata being useful here, could you elaborate? Thanks.

    The Problem

The new command blocks featured in the 1.9 snapshots are great. They make everything more logical and simplistic while still being just as functional. They even help to reduce lag, by removing the need for /fill redstone block clocks. However, while this new chained-style control flow is great, it can also lead to some annoyances. The big one I'll be focusing on here is activating another chain of command blocks.

Currently, there is no simple way of activating another chain, or utilizing the new feature that is disabling/enabling certain blocks in the chain using redstone. There are two or three different solutions to this, but they are in no way convenient or easy to use, which is what the new command blocks aim for:

    1. Redstone block placing/deleting: Having a command block place a redstone block next to an impulse block, to start another chain. The impulse block must then delete this immediately afterwards.
    2. Using a scoreboard objective: Setting a scoreboard score on a fake player to start another chain. The chain to be activated detects this change, and immediately changes it back. Either all blocks after this are conditional, or there is a single conditional block attached to the start that fills a row of redstone blocks next to the chain.
    3. (Similar to 2) Tagging an armour stand: Same as number two, but instead of using fake players on the scoreboard, a "data stand" is tagged with a tag that is detected by the chain. Removes a bit of the hassle, since the commands take less time and effort to type. You can also use "/execute @e[name=MarkerStand,tag=(tag)] ~ ~ ~ (command)", but you would have to do this for every block in the chain.

While these methods all work quite well, each one has its own problems. For #1, you must first find the coordinates of a block next to the start of the chain, and set up a /setblock to activate it. The beginning of the chain you are activating must then remove the redstone block. This is a lot of effort for what should be a very simple thing, plus it is highly mistake-prone. You could very easily write down the wrong coordinates by accident, and end up replacing the command block itself.

#2 is, once again, very convoluted. At first the idea seems simple enough; just set a scoreboard score and detect it to start a chain. But this, in some cases, can be even worse than #1. Considering the fact that the first command block in the chain must contain a detection command, there are three options here: make every block in the chain conditional, place redstone blocks next to every block in the chain and delete them after, or separate the actual chain from the trigger and place a redstone block to start it. Making everything conditional will also rarely work, because if any of the commands that run fail, the rest of the chain does as well. #3 is similar, so the same problems apply.

    My Solution

The solution I am proposing is command-controlled remote redstone power. This is quite a simple addition to the game, but would benefit anyone who uses command blocks on a regular basis.

    How it will work

Three things will be added to the game:

    A block

A block to receive the remote signal. When a signal is sent to a specified channel (see below), the block emits a redstone signal on all sides, like a block of redstone. This will allow for easy activation of new chains, as well as making better use of the redstone-only activation feature of the new chain command blocks.

When right-clicked, a GUI will appear where a channel name can be entered. There is a single text box, a done button and a cancel button, similar to command blocks but without the extra tip text and buttons. (NOTE: I made an attempt at a mockup GUI, but my not-so-good image editor screwed it up and I don't have any good graphic design applications. So there goes that <_< )

    A command

An activate command for activating a channel of remote redstone. Its syntax, Minecraft Wiki-style, is as follows:

    activate
Activates a channel of remote redstone.

    Syntax
    activate <channel name>

    Arguments

    channel name

Specifies the channel name to activate. May be any string.

    Result
Fails if channel name is not a string, or if channel name does not correspond to any remote redstone channel being listened to.

If "query" is appended to the command, a list of listening receiver blocks will be printed in the chat.

On success, activates one or more remote redstone receiver blocks listening to the specified channel name.

    An NBT compound

An extra compound NBT tag in the level.dat file, for storing which blocks to activate when calling remote redstone activation. Its NBT structure is as follows:

    Channels (Compound)
└── ExampleChannel (List) <- A channel list tag is created for every channel typed into a receiver block. Its name is the name of the channel.
├─── 0 (List) <-- Each tag in the list stores coordinates to a receiver block that should be activated when this channel is sent a signal.
    │ ├── 0: 103 <-- x coordinate of the targeted receiver block
    │ ├── 1: 481 <-- y coordinate
    │ └── 2: 67 <-- z coordinate

└─── 1 (List) <-- Another receiver block listening in on the channel. Both will be activated.
    ├── 0: -463
    ├── 1: 25
    └── 2: 73

(Sorry for bad ASCII representation  )

    Alternative

An alternative, simpler method has been proposed to accomplish the same thing: ditch the block and NBT tag, and just have a command that powers a command block (and maybe other redstone) at the specified coordinates. This, while much simpler, has its own pros and cons. It also will be able to specify for how long the signal will last, and maybe the power level provided (1-15 for dust, strong/weak for blocks).

The idea could also use a combination of both, where the command accepts either a channel name or coordinates (similar to how /tp accepts a selector or coordinates as the second argument).

Thanks to Badprenup and Ouatcheur for input on this alternative.

    Summary/TL;DR

Right now, the new 1.9 command blocks have a big problem; activating new chains is annoying and inconvenient. There are ways to do it, but none are ideal. This solution I am proposing would fix all of that: to have a completely new block, command, and world file NBT compound that are made specifically for this purpose.

The block (its temporary name the "receiver block") listens in to remote redstone "channels". These channels are named with a string of letters, similar to scoreboard objective names. Whenever a channel is "sent a signal" or "activated" via a command, all receiver blocks listening in on the channel will emit a redstone signal for a single game tick following the current one. The command is "/activate <channel name>", where channel name is the name of the channel to activate.

In my opinion, a feature similar to this would greatly benefit the game, for something like 1.10 or any future version. Thanks for reading! :-(o):

I am making a modded server for a custom modpack. However, partway through startup it crashes with the following error:

[17:50:45] [Server thread/ERROR] [FML]: Fatal errors were detected during the transition from CONSTRUCTING to PREINITIALIZATION. Loading cannot continue

It then goes on to unload each mod.

I have tried reading through the crash log but could not make sense of the error :(

posted a message on Factions!!! Bug!!! Whoever fixes gets staff!

You seem to have a typo here:

    "claimingFromOthersAllowed": fa;se

This may or may not be the cause, but change it anyway ;)

posted a message on How do I join server from xbox

Unfortunately, the PC version of Minecraft does not connect to the Xbox 360 Edition. I do believe there is split screen multiplayer in the Xbox version, that should suit your needs.
