posted a message on Deactivated Monster Spawners
My personal suggestion is that they should give less light than torches, but can be crafted with a torch (in the same manner as jack-o-lanterns) to give it a light boost to be equal to or greater than that of torches.

These are rare in my personal experience, so it would be nice for them to have the potential to be more potent than torches (albeit with a small negligible cost) but also if you were to get a nice batch of them they'd make for nice dim lighting on a 'spooky' walkway.

That's just how i envision it, since its mainly for decorative purposes, with the upside of being more practical than torches in some occasions.

Really simple idea. Instead of monster spawners shattering into oblivion, it would be cool if you got a deactivated spawner block that you could set down and use as a light. It'd be a nice decoration, and a way for you to keep a personal tally of all the dungeons you've conquered should you so desire.

Also, why do you need a piece of iron in there too?

The idea they had was flint head of the arrow + iron = spark to ignite your gunpowder

posted a message on Magnetic North, and redstone in your powered carts
Haven't been on the forums in a good while so didn't know these were already suggested.

The main point of the redstone minecart, as i have it envisioned, is for use in personal transportation. And when I say redstone minecart, i mean a normal powered minecart with redstone as its current fuel. The redstone powers the cart with more 'strength' so it can move at its normal top speed even while pushing you in a minecart infront of it. Also, when you put redstone in the powered minecart, the cart starts moving toward you. This means, while sitting in an minecart, i can turn around put redstone in the powered cart behind me and it will push me forward. This saves me from having to put coal in a powered minecart from behind, and run to the cart in front of it, hoping i get there before the powered cart shoots off down the track without me.

Did that clear it up for you?

posted a message on Boat expansion
I don't personally think boats or too slow or too fragile (i've crashed my last boat like 10 times atleast before it eventually broke, and i always carry backups when i'm out sailing the ocean). Small size helps to keep me from crashing my boat all day long.

I don't really know why you would need a large boat, other than to make a steer-able base since you seem to want to be able to build on it. Building on a raft, in and of itself, seems like there would be some issues besides visibility (thinking more-so on the code-side myself). However, a seat 'block' would remove the whole visibility issue. Make your raft, drop it in the water, build it up to how you want and plop your seat block where you want to steer from. As long as the seat block is connected to the raft directly or indirectly, it will control that raft, and right-clicking any block that is attached to the raft would put you in the seat. Could also sail in 3rd person.

I'm neither for or against this, but that is how I would personally tackle the issue.

posted a message on Self regenerating trees
I personally am against this. I don't like using real life to rationalize putting things into Minecraft. It's a game, made of blocks. It's not real life, it never will be. Saplings planting themselves would be kinda cool, but it's really not that hard to pick up a few saplings and replace the trees you cut down. It feels like an addition solely aimed at appeasing laziness. Sometimes you'll miss picking up a sapling, yea, but in my experience you'll get more saplings on average than number the trees you cut down.
Naturally, this is just how I feel, so don't let me discourage you if you don't agree with my point of view :smile.gif:

    Quote from vxi »

For your information, how do you know if your compass points to north or if it points to your spawn, it could point to either, it could point to both.

By what I have here, if you put magnetic north somewhere in your world (to avoid confusing the game, only one can be down at a time) your compass will point to magnetic north, not to your spawn. Pointing to both doesn't make sense to me, unless the compass gets an extra needle, which seems a bit excessive in my opinion.

I know Redstone isn't fuel, but it is magic 'electric-like' dust. Not trying to be all realistic, as redstone isn't realistic. Using coal to have a powered minecart push you around is kinda slow and cumbersome, since you have to get behind the powered cart, then run around and hop in the empty cart before it darts off. This would provide an alternative without having Notch re-work how coal works in powered minecarts, since for the purpose of making an automated supply route it works rather well. In my opinion atleast. Making a special redstone-powered minecart is an option, but i feel like that's just much more effort on Notch's part if he were to decide to implement this. He's doing a stellar job, wanted to cut him some slack lol.

posted a message on Magnetic North, and redstone in your powered carts
Fairly basic idea. Placeable item that your compass would point to instead of your spawn.(Just to clarify, if you don't have a magnetic north item placed somewhere in the world, your compass will still point to your spawn, so you can dig up the item if you don't need/want it anymore and have a spawn-pointing compass again) Especially with (soon to be renamed?) hell and portals on the horizon, it would help people who's main home is no where near their spawn keep their bearings and head on home after a long day out exploring.

    Recipe: ( :Red: = Redstone)
    :Red: [] :Iron:
    :Red: :Red: :Red:
    :Iron: [] :Red:

I'm no pixel artist, so that's the best I can do at making at 3x3 N, works if you defocus your eyes a little like with those eye-puzzles :wink.gif:

Redstone is fairly plentiful, and i think it'd be nice to give it some other uses. On that north, I also had an idea for powering our minecarts with redstone as well. It would be 2x (maybe more) the strength of coal and last for around the same amount of time (not sure if burn time for coal in carts is determined by tiles or a time limit although). Also, the cart would move toward you when activated, instead of away from you. Making redstone the proper material to use when trying to push yourself in a cart along your railroad system, and coal for sending up materials from your mine by themselves.

posted a message on High lvl crafting Prosess, Obsidian and unbreakables.
Given the way Obsidian is made, you can't smelt it. It's like trying to smelt glass. So I don't see how you would 'infuse' it with stone. Personally, I think Obsidian should only be used for bladed instruments (swords, axes, not sure what else there is, i need to get this game -.-) It would be the most effective form of these tools/weapons BUT break the fastest.
Thats how I feel about it atleast. Obsidian is (from what I personally know) the sharpest material on earth, but is brittle which is why it is not exactly a favorable material especially in this day and age. Steel may not be able to hold the same edge, but can withstand more force and essentially do more.
I'ma gonna shut up now before I got on a crazy rant, don't mean to shoot down your ideas or anything. Just want to give my perspective on things is all. Anything can happen in a game after all.

Maybe laying a red wire down on a track puts it in the middle of the track block, making it a new block altogether (rail + wire), and it would work on curves too because it would just bend with the track.

Well, how will you switch tracks then?

that could be the downside of electric tracks (everything needs a downside imo)

posted a message on Ham Block
i think unstackable food keeps the game from being too easy (granted i don't own it and can't play so i can only base this off what i've seen from other people playing) New food recipes would be a better alternative than stacking imo. Maybe some heal over time stuff, instead of insta-heal.

posted a message on Sammich (Dunno if this has been suggested)
I'm new here, don't even have the game yet cause I'm broke! So if someone else has come up with this already I apologize. Been watching people play minecart on youtube and thought a sandwich item would be nice. Give your bread a new purpose in life.
    [] :////: []
    [] :Bacon: []
    [] :////: []
    :////: = bread

pretty straightforward, would heal 7 hearts (cause i think bread heals 2, and cooked ham heals 4, so this makes it worthwhile without displacing the golden apple entirely....i hope)
