Well, second "real" pixel art. First was supposed to be a Guardian Cub (from World of Warcraft) but that didn't turn out so well...

Anyway, moving to the topic subject, here is what I've worked on for a total of about 5-6 hours. I used Yukitoshii of Deviantart's work as a reference. I know it's nothing much, just thought I'd share it anyways.

posted a message on Minecraft Castle Ideas/BluePrints
I've personally built a legit castle in single player some months ago, and recently began work on a second one on the very same map. I have also started, but not completed, 3 other castles on friends' servers, so I think I can say I know a thing or two about castle building.

My first castle was pretty much a large square with towers, typical castle parapets, and a small lava moat in between a river at the entrance. I also had a watchtower. This castle taught me a lot of things though, mainly that a plain square was a bland design. After I saw this, I set out to create a similar castle. It is almost complete.

So anyway, here are some tips I can give:

1: Get stone. A lot of stone. It requires more than you think. What I do is mine about 6-7 stacks, build, then go back to mining. This way I don't get bored.

2: Be creative. Like I said before, don't make it a bland design. An idea I find interesting is a castle carved into a mountain. I will be working on this after I finish my current castle.

3: Search for castle pictures to get ideas, and mix the ideas you find best. For example, you might find a castle with a balcony but no towers, but a castle with towers but no balcony. Why not make both?!

4: Be patient. Castle building takes a very long time. I don't work for long periods in one time, so my castles take months to complete. I work for an hour or two every couple of days, sometimes even less. Even if you work faster, it will still take a considerable amount of time.

5: Build it near a scenic location. This is pretty obvious; you're going to want a nice view.

6: Come up with a flag for your castle! I haven't seen anyone else do this yet, but I personally love this. It creates a sense of attachment and unity.

7: Don't get frustrated if you make mistakes! For every castle I build, I probably break as many blocks as I place. (Okay, maybe not that much, but you get the idea). You will make mistakes and have to edit/remove them. It's a normal part of building large projects such as castles.

8: Don't rush! Take your time to make your castle as good as it can be. Try not to take shortcuts that make your castle look incomplete or that require less resources. Stone is practically infinite. When you're done, you're going to want your castle to look like the best it can be, not a half-assed stone structure!

9: This probably should have been at the top of the list, but plan before you build. This saves a lot of time and frustration. Before you build, simply sketch a small blueprint or something so you know what you're going for.

10: Start with the easier parts. Don't make a tower before you even make the platform for it! Start with the basic, easy things to build before you move on to the more complex parts. Ideas will just flow in once you have the essentials, and you may even change your thoughts and make more than what you thought you would!

11: Stick to the project. If you find later on in constructing the castle that you wanted your castle to turn out differently, and it is not easily correctible, don't worry. Finish the castle, and then gather up your ideas for the next castle. You also learn and get more castle-building experience (lol) this way.

and finally, 12: Have fun! When you finish your castle, you're going to want to remember the sweat and tears you poured into your creation positively.

posted a message on Train of Consequences
A week or two ago, I was casually browsing minecraftforums in search of interesting topics. After 15 minutes or so, I gave up and launched Minecraft. I had been working on a major project for a while and didn't feel like continuing, so I decided to hit the create world button and see how long I could survive on the hard difficulty. This was in 1.7.3; I wanted to play a little old-fashioned.

A forest was the biome I started in. The first thing I noticed was that there was an unusually peculiar thing near spawn. About 20 blocks ahead was a magnificent intersection of three biomes; the forest, a taiga, and a desert. It did not make any logical sense, but I nonetheless enjoyed the view and uniqueness of this place. It's difficult to describe, this place was somewhat cheerful and inviting, as if just begging me to build a house there. And that I did; I built the typical wooden house right in the middle of the intersection. I had to chop down some trees and level the ground a bit, but it was easy for the most part. By dusk I had a modest, tiny 5x6 house. Nothing special.

I decided it was time to go mining, as I didn't get a chance to obtain wool. I made some stone pickaxes, a narrow 1x1 underground passage on the left side of my house, and set off, going deeper and deeper under the earth with every passing second. I managed to reach y: 20 without running into an underground system. I just noticed, took note of it, and kept mining down in search of diamonds. I had found some iron and coal on the way, and 3 iron ingots, but nothing really special.

Keeping F3 opened, I descended a couple of blocks more, and I heard the train whistle sound effect just as I hit y:15. Yet again, this was nothing special. It always slightly chilled me, but by now I was used to it. My stone pick was about to break, so I went back up to make a new one. Note to self: carry more wood next time. I went back down and continued mining downwards. I finally hit a cavern!

As I distributed torches throughout with my sword stone at hand, I was surprised to not have encountered any mobs. I checked the difficulty setting again, and it was on hard, just like how I had left it. After I had lit up a small section of the cavern, I heard the train again, except this time it wasn't the normal train whistles you usually hear. It was the faint chug-chug of an old fashioned train, and seemed to be coming from a long distance. I had never heard this effect before, but I shrugged it off in search of diamonds.

30 torches and an iron pickaxe later, I had finally stumbled upon diamonds! There were 7 in that cluster, and I happily excavated the last of them before heading back up to place my newly acquired loot in my home chest. Still being cautious about any possible mobs, I did not stumble upon any. Descending the seemingly never-ending stairs again, I noticed something. There was a diamond block on the side near the end of the stairs that I did not notice previously. As I collected it, it led me to a few more. I took the final one, them being 4 in total, and there was a wall of gravel in front of me. At this moment I heard a still faint but more pronounced chug-chugging of the train again, this time accompanied by an innocent child's laugh. At this point, I was freaked out.

I quickly checked my open windows. Youtube, iTunes, everything was closed except Minecraft. Maybe the sound was from outside? I guessed so. I was getting unnerved now with these awkward train sounds though. I decided to go on, hoping what I had heard was some sort of illusion or effect of paranoia. I was about to go all the way back up to store the diamonds in the chest again, but I decided to go on a bit more because I was tired of going up and down the whole time.

I dug through the wall of gravel, and alas, the first block I destroyed revealed an abandoned mineshaft right ahead. Pretty nifty! There were rail tracks everywhere; they were more plentiful than they were in other mineshafts I've seen. I considered just quitting and deleting this world, but I decided not to be a wimp and that I was probably just imagining the train-related things.

Still no mobs... there were mobs outside, though. It must have been some sort of bug. Or maybe it was related to this train thing? Probably just a bug. Geh! I proceeded on the rails , looting several chests I found on the way. There were a couple of diamonds, cocoa beans, buckets, iron... all the typical stuff. I took everything I could see as I progressed through what seemed like an infinite, limitless system of railroads. I had placed my torches on my right side though, so navigating back would be as easy as following torches on my left side. Looking down, it just happened to me that I could use these tracks later on and that taking them wouldn't take much time. I picked several up. What I heard next made me literally pause the game for a few minutes and take a break. It was the sound of an aggrevated yet sorrowful child's cry. The emotion was so intense that it seemed surreal. It was accompanied by an initially faint sound of the dreaded train whistle and chug-chug that grew louder by the moment.

As my heart's rapid pace slowed down and I started to calm down a little bit, I went back to the game. I hadn't slept much the previous night; maybe that was it? With shivering hands, and ignoring the rail, I navigated back to where I came in from the mineshaft. And then came the train's chug-chug again, but this time without any cry or whistle. It was growing louder and louder. I kept dashing forward and not looking back, not even wanting to know what was behind me, just desperately trying to get out of this place. I now knew this was definetely not my imagination and that something really weird was going on in the game. Nervous yet again I was, but slightly less so than previously in knowing that I was not tripping. As I was just about to make it to the bottom of the stairs that led back up to my house, it became so loud at the end that I actually slipped off my headset. I was three or four blocks away from the set of stairs before I suddenly died with a big explosion, with about the force of 2 creepers. The sound vanished.

Getting ready to delete the world, I quickly dashed to my shack. Why I do not know, but I did so. I checked my chests, and everything was there, except the 7 diamonds I'd have sworn I placed fifteen minutes ago. After promptly deleting the world and recycle bin, I thought for a bit about what had just happened. Then it came to me: mineshafts weren't added until 1.8. The world I was just in was a 1.7 world.

I deleted that 1.7 jar too.

Yes, I just made this up right now out of boredom. I know it sucks, just thought I'd share it anyway for entertainment. No, this never really happened.

posted a message on Am I the only one who likes the NPCs?
It seems I am the only one who actually likes the way they look, at least in the PR. I understand it's not out and probably a placeholder, but their weird Squidward looks are actually pretty humerous and not bad! :iapprove:

    Anyone else?

    Quote from Domino

He should stop giving us dates if he's just going to change it......Now it's just getting frustrating...

From the very start, Mojang has said that they did not want to mention a release date because they were not sure they were able to hit it. But with all the kids nagging them about when 1.8 will release, I guess they just gave their best guess to quiet down the crowd.

    Blame the naggers, I say.
