Another bug-fix build is coming tomorrow. They are releasing them nearly every day during weekdays, so a final release should be before the end of the month.
Alpha build 6 just came out. Controller is much better now. I think we'll see a final release soon. Looking forward to block launched to update as well ☺
Ok folks, I got the beta build 2! I can report the following things:
1) Played for about 5 minutes on my Nvidia Shield tablet. Had to disable the game mapper function to get the controller to work properly.
2) Can navigate the menus and customize/remap the controller buttons (sweeet!)
3) Can't seem to "fly down". Not sure if it's a bug or not, will keep trying.
4) Occasionally, the "destroy block" action gets stuck. Need to press it a couple of times to un-stick it.
I'm only testing out controller stuff for now; this was the single, most important update for me. Finally I can play THE definitive portable version of Minecraft!
All I want is PROPER controller support. I keep trying to play it on my Nvidea Shield tablet, using the built-in GameMapper function, but it is glitchy .. I keep inadvertantly placing blocks using the right analog stick, when Im just rotating the camera view.
I'm currently working on a re-creation of the (original) World Trade Center.
Started with a superflat world and thought, "How can I get rid of these pesky animals getting in the way all the time?"
Aha!Go crazy with TNT and destroy every last grass block. Well, it took several days, off-and-on, but I now have a full world of solid bedrock. Now I can start building in peace

Ocelots are in the game now. I haven't tried to tame them though.

When it's ready. No one knows right now, not even Tomasso.

Just got build 7. Even better controller functions now, but slight lag when moving the camera.

Wait ... what?!? Controller support? I've been avoiding playing it on my nvidea shield tablet because of crapppy controls.
I can't find a link anywhere confirming they added controller support. Is it really true?!?
This is the only new feature Ive been looking forward to.
edit: ha .. just found it
