    Hmm...

I tired of the stars beyond very quickly. I feel it's just too annoying. I became very annoyed with the towers in the first area. I think if you're making a "ruined" area, you have to have some sort of semblance. Do you think someone would construct a building without stairs or ladders or even an entrance. Also, the map was terribly unbalanced, I was kind of thrust into a very difficult area. In your next map, you should fix this. :/

    (I don't really like lore-heavy maps).

I'm pretty sure I asked this question like twenty pages ago, and then never came back to check it but...

How do I run CraftBukkit? I tried what is on the Bukkit tutorial page, but it didn't work.

    Thanks!

    Finished anus...

    Review of Anus

This map was obviously complete garbage. It is pretty much impossible to play due to the extreme amount of mobs in the starting testicle.

    I like the D-shaft.

    LOL...

6/10 This map is totally impossible, the aesthetics are bad, and it has no order or semblance, but it is hilarious.

    GG, Hybran, GG...

    @Technic,

Hmmm, I think that you went into the map slightly biased in thinking that, oh, it was made in a day, therefore it must be bad. Secondly, I don't think your review is that fair due to the fact that as you stated yourself, you bridged over most of the areas and I will update the rules to stop players from doing that. What I find most frustrating is that you offered little to no suggestions on how to fix the problems that you have mentioned.

    Quote from TheSarcasmLord

I think that was pretty god damn harsh.

I've been following this jam since it's start and made the original banner for it, so I've seen how everyone interacts with each other during the Jams. The point of this is to show off your skills to other mappers, get some mapping practice, advice and constructive criticism.

Do not give feedback if it doesn't benefit the mapper. This isn't beta testing for a map that will be revised later, this a one time thing so any feedback should help the Mapper improve in some way for future maps.

I rate your critique skills 1/10 in this such environment.

Not only was it rude and condescending but offered no constructive criticism that would benefit anyone. You only gave what you felt was wrong with map and gave no suggestions to improve which makes your critique 100% useless.

    Quote from TheSarcasmLord

Can we have this added to the rules Drago?

Do not give feedback if it doesn't benefit or help the mapper.

I feel as if this is an environment meant to help people and have fun mapping, so people should not be leaving reviews/critiques that don't benefit anyone.

    Top kek!

If the purpose of constructive criticism is to improve the outcome, you should look at what I said.

"This isn't beta testing for a map that will be revised later, this a one time thing so any feedback should help the Mapper improve in some way for future maps."

None of what he said would help Sylf improve for another map. Most of it was in beta testing style which works great if the mapper plans on revising the map, but since that's not how it works here, the outcome that the constructive criticism should help is the mapper and his skills, not the map because that will never be edited or fixed.

It's about the advice you can take away from the experience to improve yourself, not the advice that serves only to tell you that a map built in 48 hours is "too rushed" or is just flat out "A crappy map".

If I was the mapper that got that review I wouldn't be improving at all based on the feedback because none of it helped.

    Quote from Hybran

A 72 hour map != any kind of months and months of mapping

People aren't in here to get feedback on their styles, they're here to challenge themselves with a time limit and work on concepts that may not fit in their own maps.

Literally not even looking at Technic's criticism.

    Quote from TheSarcasmLord

Yes. All of that, but in a friendly environment so they can continue to improve and challenge themselves. Honestly I've been around this town for a long time before this got transferred over to Drago, and you seem like a fairly new face to the Strawberry Jam.

People come to map here for a few reasons: To challenge themselves, to improve, to show off there talent, to be involved with other map makers in the community, and most of all: To have fun.

Doesn't improve anyone's map jam experience in the slightest.

I'm not willing to argue this further. My points are there, and only hope Drago decides to add my rule.

    Quote from TheSarcasmLord

I personally hand checked all 31 original pages of the strawberry jam before it was locked and the 34 pages of the reduxed version just to make sure, and found your presence nowhere mentioned up until your post here today.

So like I said you seem like a new face maybe because I've never seen or heard you mentioned at all in the strawberry jam up until now.

Alright I've had about enough. This is, and always has been a friendly environment. That should never change. I've made my points you've made your's, and if you think I'm wrong for saying Technic's criticism isn't constructive, you're welcome to join my ignore list.

Let's just agree to disagree buddy.

    Dang, so much stuffs...

You guys really care about me that much? :D

Listen, you're free to put down my map as much as you want. Also, after looking at my first version of the post, I decided it wasn't fair enough, so I put some extra bits.

By the way, I wouldn't put "no pillaring/bridging" as a rule, that is a pretty lame move that hinders your creativity. Rather than do that, come up with ways to prevent people from doing those kinds of things.

By the way, I hate when people say pillaring is bad, it is a perfectly viable startegy. I think a good way to prevent pillaring is by hindering the amount of resources people have to the point where they have to go for the chests or they won't be able to beat the map. However, this brings up another point about why the map was bad. There was much too many resources. You don't want to expect 5 people will be playing the map, you should expect at most two. In fact, for the purposes of this jam, I think anyone balancing their map should balance it around only one person. This is a pretty small thread, and there is not likely to be many people playing all the maps, much less with friends.

To end the afore-quoted discussion, I am not being biased against any map, trust me, I love Sylf as a person, but I am judging these maps based on the map, not based on the person who made them. I am not going to hold back just because somebody will feel bad, just as a real critic would do.

I honestly don't think that I made Sylf feel bad, and if he does, then he can simply ignore everything I say.

    tl;dr

My review was perfectly fine; free speech is a thing on the internet; stop arguing about it.

    Whelp, I'm done!

It was hard to find a vantage point for the pic of this one, but I pulled it off...

    Review of Sylf's Air

Air was a pretty crappy map, to say the least. Sure, there were custom mobs, and nice aesthetics, but this map is beatable within half an hour. And while it is a "Mini-CTM", this one proved to be extra mini. The first area is super easy, and for the others, I just pillared.

There was little difficulty, but there was also little creativity.

Sylf fell into the same traps many first-time CTMers do. There was a lame four way intersection/monument, corrupted paths, and cliche areas. These all proved to be simply annoying, and didn't really help to add to the atmosphere of the map.

What he could have done to stay closer to his theme is actually make each of the areas related to air. This is not really an air based map, it is simply floating isles, and nothing more.

However, the aesthetics in the map are relatively sound, but that is all I will give him. I was not gaping in awe at the beautiful areas.

Sylf could have much better represented the theme, the map is too easy, and I did not feel any satisfaction completing it at the end.

The map seems too rushed, and unfortunately, it doesn't work out.

Specific Comments: The double helix area was too annoying for me to bother...
You could have put obsidian at the top of the tower to prevent pillaring.
You should have made some sort of fleecy box.
Honestly, the clouds represent the theme pretty well, but that doesn't explain the rotten tree area and the tower, there was no explanation for why these isles were floating.
Looking back now, the yellow wool platform was a block closer to the monument than the red. Was this intentional?

Adjustment: I almost forgot about the spawn area! That was actually done pretty well despite the floating isle issue IMO. That brought the score up to a 5/10.

    5/10

No offense, Sylf. But a bad map is a bad map. That's not to say you can't improve. :)

BTW, thanks for the feedback! I'm sure you'll enjoy my map. :D

    Interesting.
Of course, depending on those who are chosen, this would could be blown to bits after only one person or kept up forever by those who think that destruction isn't the only way to go.

Good luck on who you choose to inherit the world, sire.
Well, really I don't mind what people do with the world. Say somebody gets ahold of it and decides they are going to make a whole map out of it. We can still use the world. Maybe not for much longer, but certainly for a little while. And if someone blows everything up, we can just restart in a different area. It's actually quite simple to fix things.
