May I suggest something from the Russian Sleep Experiment?
Basically what happens is when you spawn it, you dont get a mob but you get a puff of gas, your character inhales it and it disappears. The gas does nothing after a day or so, but as time goes on you start hallucinating, seeing scary things, you sometimes get random effects like decreased range of sight or weakness. You also cannot sleep. When you jump in a bed it will never work. After a couple days you cant see anything and a creature comes to you and kills you. You will then respawn, if you die before the last day all the effects are gone and nothing will happen to you, unless you do summon another puff of gas.
TL;DR: Spawn Hallucination Gas, over time you get random status effects added to you, loss of sight, weakness, etc. You hallucinate and think there are certain things there (mobs, currently implemented creepypastas, etc). You cannot sleep in beds. After a few days something comes and kills you, you respawn.

I was thinking they could use little Bamboo Chutes (Or whatever they are called now aday) + Some other nice pointy item (Maybe more sticks) to make Blow Darts.
