I do believe it is not possible to do this until tekkit begins using the Anvil world format. The world height is larger in the current version of minecraft so it isn't possible to downgrade the maps from it. the only way to do it would be to use mc edit on the lowest 126 blocks and bring those into a world.

This is also a big question on my mind. I happen to enjoy painterly a lot and would be curious if i could have it as an option if i got the xbox version. Of course how would one customize a texture pack on the console anyway?
