His latest blogpost: It’s 7:40 PM here, but I will work on these bugs tomorrow.
On twitter, about today's update (Copy-pasted)
"Included in the release today is leaf decay, working server-side inventory, throwable eggs, and less system hungry servers."
"Oh, and there's visible armor in the update today as well."
And on his blog about an update that never happened:
"And the next game update (with server-side inventory) is coming next week, before Beta"
So... and looking at his other tweets:
"Out on a lunch errand now. Eager to get back to the office! #mcbetamonday"
and TWO HOURS LATER: "Errands: done, returning to the office. Slight delays on my subway line. Ate at Max with @JahKob."
All well and good about his delays on his subway line...
But I get the feeling he is not taking minecraft serious anymore, especially after the load of bugs in BETA mode...
(and don't start talking about what beta mode is for, ALPHA mode is usually NOT available for the public and notch said there is plenty of new stuff to come, even in beta...)
Are you for real?
The update today was supposed to be out on wednesday last week yes. Why didn't it happen? Because Notch was ill. Despite being ill he put in long hours TRYING to make it happen anyways, but it fell trough when TWO MORE people at the office became ill and he had to take on THEIR tasks as well.
In case you didn't notice, Notch is now running a company, which means he has other obligations than sitting infront of the computer coding 24/7, like running errands. And he actually has to eat sometimes *gasp*
Judging by the twitter messages, he arrived at the office some 11 hours ago now, deduct two hours of running errands, delayed on subway and actually getting food... yes, he is clearly not committed to Minecraft anymore... and yes definately lazy. Only 11 hours workday, thats just plain rude towards his paying customers.
Sheesh, get a grip people. Notch has a life outside of his computer, he has a business to run, and another project he is working on. Your 10€ does not make him your personal little slave for life.
It's almost disgusting, you expect to wake up at 11:30 AM and go OMFG, Minecraft Beta was released last night at EXACTLY 12:00 PM Midnight! No, It's still December 20th, **** will go down today, just stop getting your panties in a fuss and relax.
The update coming today was supposed to happen last week, but didn't due to illness all around the Mojang office.
Afaik there has not been any mention of "a release of beta" to indicate any specific release related to the launch of the beta. Launch of the beta is merely the development focus shifting from the alpha stage to the beta stage. Soon after beta a larger update is planned.
Software development is a moving target, especially during this early stage. Features get added, dropped or posponed. Deal with it. It's the price you have to pay for using a pre release game/software :smile.gif:
I remember the early days, he used to update regularly and most updates were pretty feature heavy. Or if they weren't on their own, there would be several successive updates which amounted to something feature heavy.
But then he took his month long break, nothing has been the same since. I have this niggling thought in the back of my head that Notch has become bored of the game. There are a lot of half-assed features (dungeons, biomes) and features he tried to implement but failed (monster towns, decadent structures). I think he needs to get those things sorted out.
*DURRR* Well DUH. Thats what an alpha is. You get the framework in, you get the base features in. You make the foundation upon which you build the final product ready. The fact that the updates have slowed down indicated that the end of alpha and the start of beta was approaching. The beta phase is traditionally playtesting and making sure that the features already there work like they should. Things like, fixing leaf decay, serverside inventory, preformance improvements on the server side, displaying armor, all coming today, all the type of thing you expect to happen during beta.
If you really don't want to be part of the full cycle from alpha to finished product, wait for the finished product to be ready.
Hey GenuineSounds, any chance you'd look atadding a feature to this mod to change the size of the gui? I'd prefer it larger myself. If it creates/reads a file in .minecraft to determine the scale from the original or a specific pixel dimension to use would be ideal!
i.e
guiScale=1 would be original scale
guiScale=1.5 would be original scale *1.5
or
guiWidth=1024 would make all gui screens 1024 pixels in width.
guiHeight=1024 would make all gui screens 1024 pixels in height.
just a suggestion, but I'd sure love it if you do.
Now that would be useful. I might have to start making one. RIGHT NOW!!!
This would definitely be awesome!
I love this mod, but at 1900x1200 the GUI becomes a tad too small for comfort.

Would have to read trough the history of the thread to confirm for sure though.

Notch might not like the idea of betterlight, as is his priviledge for his creation. But I sure as heck love it :smile.gif:
