There is nothing wrong with achievements, there is just so much I would rather see Notch doing. Plenty of games have achievements, plenty of fantastic games with fantastic achievements, but if I wanted that than I'd go play those games. I like Minecraft because it's different, it's creative. Achievements feel like just another way to lock players into playing the way the devs want them to. It destroys the idyllic, goalless nature of the game.
Yes! Thank you very much. It had to be converted (happened automatically) but I had no problem playing it on singleplayer. I loaded it just like I would any other map.
Does anyone have a link to a map file a server has given out? I don't care if the file is outdated or the server has closed, as long as I can run the map in single player. The more elaborate and complex the server is the better (minecart subway, multiple towns, castles, etc.).
I had an idea yesterday about how much fun it would be to run around in a multilayer server... by myself. I could pretend every other person on earth disappeared, or time froze, or there was a zombie apocalypse or something. And I could have fun, grief, and rebuild what society had left behind. A world of my own!
At first I thought this would be easy, but I've found most servers don't readily give out their map files. So if you have a link to one, please share.
EDIT: Quick question, would I still have access to the items left behind in chests? It would be great if I did.

So, as you know, for a while now (Halloween update I think) we haven't had the snowfall effect, nor does snow regenerate. We use to. Now we don't.
When we first lost it I was like, darn, annoying glitch, and figured it would be fixed in a week. It's been months. I can't even build in winter biomes anymore without my area looking like crap when the snow doesn't regenerate. I do recall Notch said he was going to fix it, but that was a while ago. I love feature updates and stuff but this is a pretty serious glitch and it should be top priority. Honestly I would of been willing to wait a week for beds in exchange for goddam snow!

At the very least he could make the grass in winter biomes snow colored, just as a temporary fix.
