AnonTheMouse posted a message on Combat Parrying: and why it should be revised/removed.As I've stated elsewhere, I'd like to see combat slowed down a bit, actually, and blocking made a bit more timing-based/strategic. My thought is that it should reduce damage by 25% rather than 50%, but a well-timed block would be an actual parry, negating damage altogether. This, and probably reducing the swing speed (or implementing a system like in the Elder Scrolls where quick attacks are less powerful than slow ones) would make combat feel a lot more intelligent, and make timed blocking actually hold a purpose.Posted in: Suggestions - To post a comment, please login.

We have all these different building materials but they're all the exact same thing. The only difference as far as the player is concerned is the look of them. This needs to change. Aesthetics are all well and good but it's called Survival for a reason and part of surviving is maintaining defenses and shelter against hostile elements.
Zombies are ravenous. Zombies are single-minded. Zombies want to kill you and
erotically nibblerip the flesh from your bones at any cost. And it makes little sense that such a mindless killing creature has the presence of mind to seek out a door as opposed to just rip through the wall when the option is there. That limitation is fine for villages on account of their walls are all pre-generated wooden crap anyway and sieges require balance but when I'm living away from them, I'd like to actually have some survival aspect. To this end, my suggestion is threefold:1) Zombies will spawn in groups as opposed to alone. Hordes would consist of four zombies and would function the same as a current zombie, merely together.
2) Groups that come within five blocks of one another will join into a single larger group (horde). Hordes would be limited to eight zombies (or two groups)
3) Zombie groups will possess the ability to break down player-placed blocks (planks, cobble, dirt, wool, etcetera) at twice the speed of the player's fist (I.E., a player takes 10 seconds to punch out cobble, a zombie group would take 5). This speed will double for a horde (so it would take only 2.5 seconds).
This would inject more survival into Survival mode, in addition to giving building a purpose beyond looking pretty, as well as a purpose to traps and house defenses which are little more than aesthetic dressing in single-player at the moment.
*To appease the building-oriented players who would rather focus on the looks of things alone, limit this to higher difficulties or make it a toggle option (Zombie Hordes: On/Off) prior to world generation.
And yes, I did just call you a giraffe. You know who you are. Quit eating my trees.

The suction cup...The concept is good...But a suction cup to do it...Eh. I'd prefer slimeballs.

You would go outside and fight them off. That's an amazing concept, I'm sure. Alternatively, you could pay the slightest attention to the OP and notice the suggestions for traps and defenses.
If your "mansion" is destroyed in sixty seconds, it is far too small to be called a mansion. And it was probably made of crummy materials. And it's my goddamn thread. You get out.
I wouldn't expect somebody who considers surviving a creeper explosion a noteworthy accomplishment to have any survival skills anyway.
Oh lord, a sensible person who actually grasps the incredibly basic concept of home defense?! Somebody pinch me!

I'll just ignore all of your not-justifications for those many equally unnecessary elements I listed previously to focus on this.
1) A mansion that took hours to build would not be gone in a minute.
2) There are these amazing concepts called TRAPS and FIGHTING and DEFENSES and ACTUALLY WORKING to survive. If all of your work is destroyed, it will be your own fault for not bothering to defend your work.
3) If there need not be holes in your house, play without it. Nobody is going to force you onto Hardcore mode or anything.

Damn, I love those commercials.

If Minecraft is about building, why are there enemies? Why is there a mining element? Why is there a crafting system? Why is there a trading mechanic? Why are there animals? Why are there structures to encourage exploration?
Minecraft is about building to YOU but you don't speak for anyone else. If some view Minecraft as being about building, that is exactly why Peaceful mode exists. And that is also exactly why I suggested it be limited to higher difficulty levels or restricted to a world-gen option.

Endermen were nerfed because the Minecraft fanbase is full of whiners and thanks to them, the most unique feature of that mob is gone. I suggested this be an option and/or limited to higher difficulties to appease those people. They'd probably argue that they shouldn't have to deal with griefing mobs and repairs just so I can have a proper survival experience...But on that exact same note, I shouldn't have to settle for a shitty survival experience just because they don't grasp the concept of "optional" or "limited to higher difficulties".

Good for multiplayer traps, good for adventure maps/mode, and aesthetically good for single-player. The recipe would be simple enough:
Craft a stone plate. Take that plate and craft it with a gold bar: Gold plate. Or craft it with an obsidian block: Obsidian plate. Craft it with a diamond, get a diamond plate. And so on and so forth for all such building blocks...The recipe would be like a book-and-quill, with random not-that-important placement so long as the ingredients are there.Revamped idea: Stone plate surrounded by redstone (Alternatively, one redstone under a stone plate in the crafting grid). The plate, once crafted, will just use the top texture of whatever block you place it upon.
