I like this design by JL:

    Scaleable, and easy to build.

    Good luck!

Great set up. Thank you, I'll try it!

Just to say, if you put glowstone light of any kind in that dungeon, the skeletons wont spawn any more other then that, use simple clocks

Well, the glowstone lantern unpowered should not effect the spawn rate. After I'm done collecting, I can always turn the light on and have a little fun watching the spectacle of skeletons dancing.

I have a dungeon with a skeleton spawner near my house I use for xp and arrows collection. It's low-tech affair, I just whack them through a kill hole. The place is dingy and depressing so I would like to liven it up a bit. I am thinking of covering the floor with glowstone lanterns and I would like suggestions on how to wire it so they will blink randomly like a disco floor. I have very little redstone experience. Any gurus out there know if it can be done and how?

The beauty of Minecraft is that it's an open-ended game. YOU decide what your style play is and what you want your challenges to be. Anything can be legit as long as you're having fun.

I could easily say that automated mob farms are not legit because it's a cheap way to gain XP without actually fighting, but I will resist the temptation. To each it's own. I admit, I use X-ray, because I just don't enjoy digging forever and ever. I rather use my precious time on creative projects and developing tactical advantages against evil mobs.

I am partial to the mediterranean diet. Bread, carrots, melon and fish. Melon and carrots are fast to farm plus provide quick one-bar topping off while fighting. Since I only engage enemies near water, fish is always available.

posted a message on Texture Pack Converter for 1.5 (From Dinnerbone)
After reading through this thread It appears the Unstitcher tool is only a partial solution because it doesn't work with animations like lava and water. Since I can't see going back to standard textures, I will not be upgrading to 1.5 until this texture business gets sorted out. I hope you modders find an easy and painless way to convert your beautiful work.

posted a message on Misa's Realistic Texture Pack (UPDATED 1JUL13)
Has anyone been able to get this texture pack to work with ANY snapshots? I tried the last two and it was total failure. Whatever they said the fixed in "b" it isn't. Texture won't load, text all garbled. Am I missing something?

Usually texture packs update with versions NOT snapshots. Since we are on version 1.4.7 then the textures will be 1.4.7. Although some stuff like books might be outdated even on 1.4.7.

    That makes sense, thank you.

I've not tried with the last two snapshots that just came out, but I've had HD texture packs working since they made the change from a single sheet to individual tiles. This is without using either Optifine or MCpatcher. So if there is a problem, it's a recent one that just happened. (Maybe related to the new requirement for animations?)

Mind you, this does require a pack that supports the new layout. I had to edit the packs I use to make them behave properly. I don't actually know of a pack that's 100% compliant with the latest snapshot at the moment.

This gives me a clue. The Misa texture pack has a single sheet and it's not broken down to individual tiles. I have heard a mention of some program that converts old texture packs (Provided by Dinnerbone?) but I don't know what it called or where to get it...

Also, can you tell me what HD texture packs you had success with? Thanks.

Are the texture packs compatible with 1.5? If you use an older one then the terrain will still look default.

I use the latest Misa texture pack. However none of the other HD packs I have seem to work. I need confirmation that HD texture packs CAN be used with snapshots. Maybe I am overlooking some step I need to take.

Has anyone been able to get ANY HD texture packs to work with ANY snapshots? I tried the last couple of snapshots with (13w09a, 13w09b but textures don't load and fonts are messed up. I used the MCPatcher 1.5 Prerelease version but it doesn't seem to work (All options are greyed out and unselectable.

Supposedly that bug was identified and was fixed in 13w09b. I hope they fix this in the final 1.5 release because I won't be upgrading otherwise. I could never go back to standard textures.
