Is the hopper actually connected to the chest or is it connected to a wall?
The tip of it has to be pointing straight down into the chest for it to place things there.
(Easiest way is to build it by holding down shift and right clicking on top of the chest.)

Connecting the two directly doesn't automatically work, are there settings I have to change?
Keep in mind I have a switch and a few ethernet cables that I can use.
If the switch is not connected to the internet, my computer can not connect to it.
edit:
A cheap patch cable for $10? rofl I make them at like 10 cents a foot.
I don't know where you got your information from, but I used to be a network engineer(dealing with wireless ****) where you say 'cheap' motels use a layer of security before the internets....I've dealt with over $80k contracts to set those cheap motels internets up. They arn't cheap :wink.gif: - its a marketing scheme in reality and also you can have bandwidth management so someone doesn't suck it all up with netflix or something.
I am a computer engineer. They may be expensive, but the implementation is rubbish and can be broken through with right click -> view source in any major browser.
Edit: In some systems, others are quite secure and actually required thought.
Disable your wireless cards and the LAN connection should take over. Try setting up a bridge on one of the computers if it's still not working. -

You're at one of those cheap motels that have a layer of security between you and the internet. Your best bet would be to buy an Ethernet cord (assuming both computers have an Ethernet jack) and just plug it in both computers and use the local area network rather than the internet.
You should be able to get a cheap patch cord for around $10.
You would need access to the hotels router and security system to connect to each other over the internet. -

Here is the situation.
Me and my brother play Minecraft at home and we can connect to the server and play no problem (my computer runs the server), but we do a lot of out of town work... thus we stay in motels around the country a lot. I don't think you can forward the ports at the motels and all motels don't have a wired connection - most are wireless only now a days. For the motels with the wired connection, I connect us to the internet via a switch and our computers can connect to the server with no problem.
So my problem is - How can we connect to a server through a switch with out internet, or is there a different way?
As long as you are both on the same network, you should be able to connect to the server. Assuming it's not a cheap motel that makes you pay for internet. You can find the IP address you should connect to online: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ - To post a comment, please login.
