MindKrafter posted a message on XtraBlocks Extreme Edition *Updated 19 March 2016Posted in: Minecraft ModsXtraBlocks A range of mods that add a wide variety of new blocks, Lighting, liquids
and items to Minecraft. Includes many blank numbered blocks that you can add your own textures to.
Bring your adventure maps or creative builds to life with a huge range of variety.
Have you ever wanted more texture's without sacrificing vanilla blocks.
Do you want more lighting options? Torches, Lamps & Light Blocks
How about colored and stained glass, or more variety of stairs and slabs?
Ever wish that buttons/pressure plates would hold your doors open a bit longer... or maybe a lot longer?
Maybe you even wanted more liquids, doors, cakes, fences and gates or multi-textured blocks?
This is a very large mod, with well over a thousand blocks. It has been designed so that you can use as few or as many as you require.
There are quite a few useful blocks that come already textured, but the vast majority of blocks have blank textures (numbered for convenience) that you need to texture yourself.
How to disable blocks or remove specific modules:1. To disable blocks. All you need to do is set the id of the block you want to disable to -1 in the config file. As a general rule, only the first block of each module can't be disabled (this is to prevent a crash as the icon is used for the creative tabs)
Another thing to note, is that it is not recommended to disable blocks in the fences module. To enable torches to be placed on fences, they share some code that will cause crashes when one of them is not present.
2. All of the modules are independent. To remove a module, just open the mod .zip then open the folder called "xtrablocks" and delete the folder of the modules that you don't want. You can then remove the corresponding texture folders from the "mods" folder. How to change block/item names:
Now you can rename any of the blocks/items whatever you like.
To use the language files, follow the simple instructions in the spoiler below
To edit the names, you will need to open the XtraBlocks mod.zip and then go into the assets folder.
Open the folder for the module you want to edit and then go into the "lang" folder.
Just double click the en_US.language file in the zip, to open it with you text editing program.
Change the name/names (as shown below) then save it and allow it to update the zip.
Note: If the file does not open up in your text editor of choice, just drag the language file to your desktop (or somewhere of your choosing) and change the default program that opens it.
(Right click on the file and select open with, then select the default program, i.e. Notepad++ or a similar program.) Now that the file has been associated, all language files should open directly from the .zip.
To edit the language file, you need to change only the part after "name=" at the end of each string. e.g.
tile.MultiStone01.name=MultiStone 01<br>
would be changed to.
tile.MultiStone01.name=The name of your choice<br>
Installing:
Install the recommended version of Forge (as per Forge instructions)
Place the XtraBlocks mod.zip inside the mods folderHow to texture the blocks:
Textures can be edited directly from the mod .zip or you can extract the texture folders to another location for editing and then drop them back into the .zip when done.
All textures can be resized to whatever you need. rages 16 - 256 will work with minecraft alone. Sizes above that will need HD support from either Optifine or MCPatcher.
1) Open the mods .zip file and then open the assets folder.
2) Open the folder of the module you want to re-texture and then navigate into the textures folder.
3) Open the folder that you need, be it Blocks, Items or GUI (choices vary between modules).
4) Select the texture that you want to edit and open it in the texture editing software of your choice.
(Photoshop, PaintShopPro, Gimp)
5) Edit the texture. You can either design you own with the tools in your paint package or you can replace the texture with one from a texture pack/image hosting site.
6)Save the image (making sure not to change the name) directly back to the zip, or to wherever you extracted them to. If the textures were extracted, you will now need to drop them back into the mods.zip
(replacing the original texture)How to use with resource packs:
Just open the .zip for you resource pack and you should see an assets folder.
Open the assets folder and drop all of the texture folders from the Xtrablocks assets folder into it.
(make sure that they are just in the assets folder and not in assets/minecraft)
That's it. now you can change textures or block names from your resources pack. What is in each module?

Known issue with Lily Pads
There are two small issues with them.
Firstly, I couldn't get the item icon to grab it's texture from the block. This means that there is an identical texture for both the block and the item. I will continue to try and get them to use the same texture for both.
Thee second issue will affect people using Optifine. I just did a quick check to make sure they were compatible and noticed that Optifine causes the colors to be different. I'm not sure what I can do about that, but I will investigate further.
8 x DIYSigns - Create custom signs

(Much thanks and credit goes to CptSpaceToaster for allowing me to pick through his code for the panes)
For more details about the Stained Glass Panes, see spoiler below.
*Stained glass panes are only available for 1.6.4
Now for a little insight, as to how the blocks are set up.
The stained glass panes are metadata blocks, meaning you get 16 blocks for only 1 block id.
Each Pane takes it's main (face) texture from a stained glass block and then has a separate texture for the borders.
Originally, I was going to link them to the existing stained glass blocks. I decided that as many of them may already be in use that users may not want the new panes textures to be bound to them. In the end, I added two new sets of StainedPaneBlocks and two sets of StainedGlassPanes. All of the panes will connect to each other, as well as any of the stained pane blocks (they will not connect with the original stained glass blocks though).
Texture wise, I have just reused the same textures as the existing stained glass blocks (only a little darker.)
With regards to disabling blocks in the config file. You can disable either of the StainedGlassPanes (leaving the StainedPaneBlocks active), but you can't disable the StainedPaneBlocks if you have the StainedGlassPanes enabled.

Changelog
XtraBlocks-1.7.10-1.1.7b
Added six iron bars to the "Buildings" module.
XtraBlocks-1.7.10-1.1.7
Made some changes to the spiral staircases.
Now they are a single block with a separate invisible collision block for the top step.
Added 3 new path blocks, dirt, gravel and cobble (DIYXtras).
The path blocks sit just below the level of regular blocks, similar to tilled dirt.
Added 4 new window blocks. Windows can be opened and closed by right clicking.
When open, objects can pass through them. (Currently the wooden shutter does not block out light)
Fixed a bug that caused some models to disappear at certain angles.
There are still a few models in the Tombs and Furniture modules that could not be fixed due to their size.
Decided to leave the 3 particle blocks (that I made a while back) in the DIYPowered module for testing.
Due to issues with the forum editor, the OP has not been updated since August 2014.
I have released several updates via the forum, but many people may have missed them.
Below is a list of all the changes made since XtraBlocks-1.7.10-1.1.2
Fixed an old bug where disabling blocks with an item renderer for models (render the model as a 3D block when in hand/inventory) would cause a crash on the server. As a result, I have reimplemented the item renderer for all of the different dice blocks as well as for all of the models in DIYXtras.
Added some new particle effects to the Brazier and Campfire (DIYXtras).
Fixed up a few recipes, most notably the DIYSigns. They now craft the item as intended (instead of the block).
Added some new recipes to the Buildings module.
Added 16 more SoundBlocks, in keeping with the additions to 1.6.4 and 1.7.10.
Removed door handles from the textures of all iron doors (DIYPowered).
Fixed the attack damage for all the swords (DIYWeapons).
Added an additional 64 blank items (DIYAdmin).
Added 8 x DIYBeds (DIYDecorations).
Added models for all the card readers.
Added a Master Card that works on all card readers and card buttons.
Added 2 sets of spiral stairs.
Added 6 x Upright Slabs.
Fixed the bounding box for the upright slab collision block (DIYFurniture)TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Chanticleera posted a message on Adventures of a Minecraft Newbie: JournalPosted in: Survival Mode*hugs Anna* That was a super sweet post! Thank you so much, and I am so glad you are enjoying my little journal!
Zeno, I figured I would have to make a trip. I THINK I might know where some are, but not 100% positive(more like 65%) and it's a rather vague direction.
***********************************************
I know it has been a bit since my last update, but honestly there hasn't been much to update. I have been busy with work and RL and haven't been able to play as much as I want too, and some of that time has been..distracted with a new project. But what time I have had has been spent underground. I have been mining my little heart out for diamonds to complete a new armor set, and have had terrible luck finding them
The only thing of note is I mined my first obsidian! It took freaking forever figuring it out safely, and I lost a lot of it into the lava. But I got like..8 pieces, enough to make an enchanting table. Then I realized I placed my bookshelves all wrong. Oh well. I will fix it all later. I finally got the last of the diamonds I needed today, and Steve is all ready to go adventuring once I have the time. Which MIGHT be tomorrow but will probably be Wednesday since I have off that day.

Swervish -
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then?
I cannot say.
***************************************************************************
My worst nightmare happened Tuesday as I was playing at home before work. I was working on the supports for my last bridge I quickly erected while driving the road to Lost Beach, and lost track of time. Before I know it, night was on me. In a panic I scrambled out from under the bridge where I was working and started racing for Lost Beach, which was closer than Blue Ranch. On the bridge I realized I wasn’t going to make it. Remembering the insane barrage of zombies attacking Lost Beach every night, I decided arriving there after dark just wouldn’t be safe. So I determined to stay on the bridge overnight, and built two quick defensive walls.
Now I just feel silly for how careful I was with those two walls…nothing came after me all night. I spotted one zombie. So perhaps my worst nightmare is not so bad after all.
I went back to Lost Beach the next day and got to work. I walled in the village to protect it, threw down lights everywhere, and greatly minimized the danger to my three surviving villagers. I even built them a new house! Then I had to make an overnight run back to Blue Ranch to get more supplies for my push further in the search for Mount Glorious.
When I got back to Lost Beach it was..empty. NO VILLAGERS! I was horrified, and felt like a murderer. I mean Lost Beach was a thriving little beach side community …and then I came along. Ever since I first appeared their numbers have been dropping steadily, until there is no one left. I tried to figure out what happened, and almost cried when I realized…I was mining for sandstone and decided to do it in the village walls. But I was using the sand elevator technique to get out of the hole, and I think my three remaining villagers after the zombie attacks fell in the hole and couldn’t get out. I was so upset I considered restarting my world. But no, I decided. This is my home. I made a mistake, I will fix it. I consulted google, and decided to move villagers from Hanging Cliff Village to Lost Beach. I would repopulate the village, erect a statue in memory of the lost ones, and then go find Mount Glorious.
I know there are several ways to move villagers. A little railroad. A river. I decided to do my own thing – build a walled path (using my current road as a base) between the villagers, and once it is complete move them along with the use of doors. Or blocks. Or something. Maybe water, I didn’t know really. But I started that walled path from Lost Beach, and when I ran out of cobblestone ran to Blue Ranch to get more, then went to Hanging Cliff Village and began it there. When night started to fall I decided to check and make sure I wouldn’t leave Hanging Cliff Village with just one villager when I moved a couple to start at Lost Beach. Then, to my complete horror, I realized I have managed to kill off Hanging Cliff Village too. Remember when I mined those guys out of the house they had been trapped in? Well…it seems in my enthusiasm I had mined away their way back in too.
*cringes*
I AM A MURDERER! I have single-handedly managed to completely wipe out two thriving villages. I was devastated. I considered searching out another village, but remembered there was…and I use that word “was” specifically…a thriving village near Mount Glorious. So, miserable over my horrible errors, I continued my search for Mount Glorious. I downgraded my road system to one lane – knowing I will probably be walling it in to move villagers later and one land will make it easier. After Lost Beach and Hanging Cliff Village are repopulated I will fix my roads there.
So I was depressed, hacking my way through the landscape with this pathetic little road, searching for Mount Glorious.
AND I SAW THIS!
I was certain I had found Mount Glorious. I abandoned my road, running to the waterfall, certain that around the other side was the lava fall. While the views were spectacular, I never did find that lava fall.
This is not Mount Glorious, it appears. But I did create another little way station here (with a plate glass window) and have made a temporary stop to replenish my cobblestone and torch supplies. I have named it The Overlook because I built it on the top of a mountain overlooking the view of that waterfall.
I have gotten my first taste of real caving here. Rather than digging through the earth, I had seen an easily accessible cave and since I am primarily looking for cobblestone and coal I decided to indulge in caving. MAN it’s so much fun! I am learning to fight kamikaze creepers instead of running from them in dread. I am still scaping the first section of the cave, making everything look symmetrical and pretty. The cave regularly sends zombies out to play with me. If I see them coming – and I usually do – I switch to my sword. But I have killed off more than one using just my pick.
After my supplies are replenished, the search for Mount Glorious will continue!

Chanticleera posted a message on Adventures of a Minecraft Newbie: JournalPosted in: Survival ModeI feel really bad, I was in a rush yesterday and forgot to respond to people who had posted since my last journal update. So here goes! A bit late, but…
Rus – Thank you so much! J I am really glad your enjoying the journal. I am thoroughly enjoying writing it. I would be honored to play on your server, as long as you know not to expect too much from me – both in time as well as play experience. I will send you a PM.
Thank you, Ruk! Isn’t minecraft WAY too much fun? I had heard of it quite a bit beforehand but always just yawned and went “whatever”. I have never been the “gamer girl” type. I liked sims, WoW, and Hearthstone (even if it makes me rage hardcore). But when I saw the pocket version on my kindle I went…”Well, why not?” I had the amazon points, bought it, and fell in love. But now I like it on my PC WAY better than on my kindle.
Swervish – I am trying! I hoped for baked eggs of some kind…didn’t happen. I did find out the cactus green works on wool. I tried putting all sorts of stuff in the oven and crafter and didn’t get much interesting back. I will keep trying though!
Baryonic – Thank you! J
Raged - *hugs* So glad I inspired you! I have to say some players have inspired me in return. Looking at you, Swervish! But not just Swervish, others too. There are so many incredibly talented people when it comes to building. I can see my own builds improving, but I am so distracted with exploring and other things I want to do I don’t spend as much time working on improving my building as I would like. BUT! I will continue to improve.
Adversity – Nice to know that if/when I find another temple (not sure how many spawn in a world) if I move a bit faster and more careful I may get those riches! As for potions…I haven’t made ANY. I do have two vials that dropped off what I think is a witch, and I am betting I can make more. I will learn potions soon, but right now so busy with other stuff.
Mini update - Mining, mining, and more mining. It's pretty much all I did yesterday at work lol.

Holy Super-Mod, Batman!!!
This is EXACTLY what my vision of minecraft has been missing.
I added your mod to my personal modpack and have only puttered around with it for like 30 minutes, and SHAZZAM! Im freekin HOOKED.
The ability to 'teach recipes' is chock full of win.
There are a few mods that I simply will not play without (Pam's, Chisel, Carpenter's, Backpacks...) and now yours is one of them.
Not only did you make my 'must have' list, but you got a new paetron at $2/mo recurring.
After watching about 6 or 7 youtubes about HV, I can see that this mod is VERY MUCH still being developed and improved. Therefore, even though I dont have the faintest coding sense and dont know the feasibility of my request, here it is; Can you make other mod's crops 'farmable'? (specifically Pam's Harvestcraft & Pam's Wee Flowers) All her crops/flowers have a unique seed, a unique plant and a unique drop/crop, and function exactly like the wheat mechanic.
Let me explain why?..... I build in survival, and your 'teach recipe' gives me the ability to have villagers craft tons of different mods' 'bricks and blocks' for building. But those mods require a LOT of dyes. Pam's wee flowers provides a way to grow masses of flowers that provide those dyes.
Anyway, fill that request or not, paetron is permanent, and Im a fan.

Dear Pam,
There are 4 mods (mod families) that I will NOT start a new world or version without. And your entire family of mods is on that short list.
Thank you for your hard work.
I will be becoming a patreon today.

THIS!!!
I think all that needs doing is to register the 'rwg_hotdesert' tyoe biome names with the FML biomedictionary, and LOTS of mods will work better with this;
Mo' Creatures, Lycanite's Mobs, Plant Megapack, etc etc.... most spawning mods look for the FML biome assignment, I think.
I would be HAPPY to add in the code, but I have NO IDEA how to java, or code anything.
My research tells me that this is what is needed, but I dont understand it.

GREAT BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!!!
I like the way you play, the way you build, the way you ENJOY every minute of this --->GAME<---!!!
You REALLY remind me of myself the first couple of weeks of play. Myself, for instance, I didnt even know that I could WEAR ARMOR for at least a couple months. And I must have unnecessarily fallen to my death a thousand times before I learned a trick not to. And I never even tried to make tools out of something besides cobblestone forever. lastly, I remember when I made everything out of dirt and cobble, and when I accidently mined out a block of a wall or ceiling and didnt know that I could put one back in that matched, lol..... ahhh the joys of babyhood.
I hesitate to coach too much, but there are a couple 'hints' I would offer;
Try cooking EVERYTHING in an oven and see what you get... EVERYTHING!
Try using various things for fuel in the oven and see what happens.
Learn what 'sneak' is and how to use it in various situations
Play A LOT on legit vanilla survival, before you join a server of any kind... they will overwhelm you with completely non-understandable words, concepts, expectations etc, until you loose your noobiness. Trust me... from what Im reading here you dont need them. You just need google.
And last, PLEASE keep entertaining us with this awesome guide, and its flashbacks for us surv builders. We are gonna LOVE it long time, I promise. If you ever get tempted to cheat or use a 'Mod File' send me a PM and Ill make some suggestions on which ones I use that dont break the 'earn it the hard way' feeling that I treasure with you. You dont need cheats yet or maybe ever.... search my profile for my threads and see what Ive done straight legit-survival for proof, Chant.
Oh... PS.... never dig straight up or straight down.... You'll wish you hadn't.

You can only repair an enchanted item.
First put a tiny ench on it. Then repair it. Then take the ench back off to regain some of the levels.

HOLY HOOLAHOOPS!!!
I have been wishing 'Frames' would reappear.
I LOVE Carpenters Blocks. Its like the old 'Slopes' on steriods, but man those frames can make a medieval house just POP!

Once upon a time, I used EB also, but I found that Biomes o Plenty in concert with Underground Biomes Constructs gave me MORE diverse building blocks, with a more powerful pair of configs... and had FAR better other-mod support than EB, to boot.
Consider this set of mods Im running;
Almost NONE of the world-Gen mods are EB-compatible, Including Streams Mod, which is freeking AWESOME paired with RWG.
