posted a message on Chest Padlocks
What's stopping griefers from putting locks on everyone else's chests? On vanilla servers, this would make it almost mandatory for players in a spawn-accessable areas to make a lock for every chest to prevent this, which would be a bit of a hassle. While it would be fairly easy to find out who wrongfully locked a chest it would still cause an inconvenience to have to fix it.

The other problem is that locked chests could be used to cause obstructions because of their nearly indestructable nature. While TNT could be used to destroy them it would make a mess of everything else around it (not to mention waiting for an admin to fix the problem could be a bit of a pantload). While making it possible to walk/phase through a locked chest would partially solve the problem, it would still be visually agitating and it would still prevent players from placing blocks in spaces the chest occupies.

While this is better and much simpler than other locked-chest ideas, locked chests on a wide scale is still a bad idea.

    posted a message on Cheese

Yes, I know that cheese has already been suggested (links). However, this topic is solely devoted to the cheese idea and a simpler, non-invasive implementation. What I’m presenting is cheese as not only an easy to make food but also as a building block.

    The Product:
    Cheese Block and Cheese Wedges:

    In all its cheesy glory.

The cheese block could have almost identical properties to the melon1. If you break a cheese block or push it with a piston it would break into cheese wedges. To re-constitute a cheese block assemble 9 cheese wedges (like with melons).

    A bigger knock-off than ____________

Simply, this would make for a comedic building material.

The tiny Cheese Fort of Exampleness looms against a rainy ender-sky.

Logically, however, cheese wedges should restore more of the food meter than melon slices since proper cheese is fairly fatty (maybe like 2-3 bars?).

    Crafting Proposal:
To start the process you'd need to craft some curdled milk. It would be the same recipe as a fermented spider eye except using a bucket of milk instead.

If anyone comes up with a suggestion involving a bucket of urine, let me know.

Next, you put it in a caldron and leave it2.

I'm sure the dogs will leave it alone...

Maybe in the same amount of time it takes to grow wheat, you’d get a cheese block on top of the cauldron3.

    No, you can't have any.

Remove the cheese block and the remaining curdled milk should be good for 3 more cheese blocks if it is unobstructed.

    In Closing:
This idea is non-invasive, meaning that players would be able to get by without making cheese, it wouldn't change the mechanics of most of what is already established4 and, because it is somewhat costlier to make than other forms of produce, it wouldn't abolish anything.

The strongest argumentative standpoint against this idea I can think of would be that it would be a waste time on Mojang's part to implement since it doesn't solve any problems or really advance gameplay. Even then, the cheese block and cheese wedges themselves are almost identical mechanically the melon and melon slices, except maybe for a texture and a constant variable that determines food meter restored and the process would make use of the currently impractical cauldron.

So if you like the idea vote it up and maybe put the support banner in your signature.

Even if you disagree with the idea, you could still link to this thread next time someone complains that the game is too hard (example : “Mob n is too hard to deal with and should be removed”). How is it relevant?

Troll: I think you should support the cheese idea.
    Complainer: Why?
Troll: Because it would go great with your w(h)ine5.

    ____________________________
1In fact, I re-skinned the melons as cheese for illustratative purposes.
    2Similar to Ouatcher’s suggestion (link).
3As a plus, it shouldn't require light to grow.
4Unless mooshrooms are reconfigured to give pre-curdled milk.
5Yes, this suggestion was also a setup for a joke. I was going to make a banner for that but then I thought it would be a bit harsh.

127: You don't play Minecraft, Minecraft plays YOU.
128: If a creeper explodes at exactly 1:12.28 AM, all creepers will, from then on, drop glowstone dust instead of gunpowder. This is irreversible.
129: Whenever someone is banned from a server, Notch re-considers implementing thirst.
130: If you scream the phrase "PANCAKES! NULL VARIABLE! ALEX JONES ON THE PIANO!" into the mic while running 3 instances of Notepad and 1 instance of Audacity exactly 5 seconds before jumping into the end portal: instead of the scrolling text ending you will get a cut scene depicting 3 villagers on the moon playing the Canadian National Anthem on clarinets while the staff of Mojang does the Macarena dance in the background.

posted a message on Player Traps...
You could think of it this way: What if your priority to "cripple" the victim is higher than getting their stuff? I mean, if you've got some diamond-clad sociopath on a PVP server that dominates everyone and gives nobody a chance to build themselves up, wouldn't it be worthwhile to destroy their tools of war and give everyone a break if a fair fight to get the loot is nearly impossible?

posted a message on Improved dyeing.
I think you're on to something with a paintbrush to paint blocks post-placement, but not like this. Arguably, having to arrange and re-arrange dyes to accomodate the paintbrush seems a bit cumbersome and awquard compared to old methods, not to mention it could easily clutter up your hotbar.

Why not pre-color brushes instead? For exmaple: take a crafted brush, surround it with purple dye in the crafting table to get a pre-colored brush that paints blocks purple without any need for more dye. This way you can make a whole bunch of pre-colored brushes and you can set them in your hotbar like a color-pallate used in paint programs.

Even then, it's debatable wheather making colorants (and the availablity of wood for coloring) so available would be good idea. On one hand it wouldn't hinder game functionality (provided the old coloring methods remain) and would lend more creative freedom; but on the other hand, it could lead to multiplayer servers looking like they were visited by Pukey the paint monster as some aren't responsible enough for such creative freedom.

It looks like you've put some thought into this idea, which is to be appreciated, but I'd still say this idea is three-quarters baked. No support.

The Idea here I like is the minecart link/ coupling. This way you could make a proper rollercoaster with multiple carts.
