It flies. Finally. I still have to add dirt to my farm deck and put some animals on it too. Though I already know that I need more engines. It flies with ok speed for its size (72*58 blocks), but I want faster. >_<
My previous post had screwed up links and I cannot edit it for some reason. So I post it again.

After long experiments, I came up with somewhat stable design for a ship. It is fast for the size, has 4 decks: farm deck (lower), Engine deck (middle), Living Deck (upper) and a small control deck on the very top. I have 50 forward engines and 16 turning engines (eight on each side). All the engines wired up to the control deck on the very top. I control the ship with 3 levers that do "turn left", "go forward", and "turn right". The altitude controller (to change height) and ship starter (to freeze the ship if it gets out of control) are also on the upper deck very close to the levers.

So, as you can see, it is very function driven. I do not have a lot of decorations so it looks a tad bulky.
Are there crafting recipes for all the ship components? I want to try the mod in survival.
Also, the size of the ship seems to affects the building performance on a ship. When you have a big ship, every time you place a block, torch or even use your hoe on a ship, the game freezes for about half a second. It is not too big of a deal though, because the ship flies smoothly anyway, but it does affect the building speed on a ship. So, make sure the ship is complete before launching it. Building gets pretty annoying otherwise.
I saw someone mention TNT cannons, which brings up a good point. how will entity interaction be handled? as it is now, I cant see how a tnt cannon would work. Perhaps some insight?
I'm curious about mobs more. If mob goes on your ship - does it become a part of your ship (sub-world)? If not, I see mods falling behind the ship because of the lag and getting stuck in the walls or even falling overboard (that happened with every single ship mod I tried)
No weapons yet; AP IB testing ends next week so I won't have free time until then.
Not much in the way of updates, with the help of Lemadec I've managed to improve the performance greatly. On optimal settings, you can have 50k-80k blocks worth of ships running with no lag! Of course that's nowhere near fast enough, but last month that number was around 2k so progress is being made plenty!
Anyway I've got the AP Literature Exam tomorrow, I can't wait for these to be over so I can get back to modding!
I remember building an epic ship in one of the ships mods. I totaled at 7500 blocks including sails. It was completely ridiculous. I could not imagine how I'd control a ship bigger than that. I think that 80k is plenty, even for multiplayer. What is your goal?
Regarding canons, can you drop a block of tnt from one ship on another? I think we all can do a TNT canon for the time being. XD
Two main comments: brightness level (it is pretty dark) and the enemy ship is too far away.
You probably should make it in a daytime. Or increase brightness from moody to maximum. It is really important to clearly see how ships move relative to each onther and to the rest of the world.
The way I see it in my head: your ship goes around some epic mountain, then enemy ship shows up, you get close to it (about 20 blocks) and blow it to pieces, preferably missing a few shots and blowing up a portion of the mountain. I think it will clearly demonstrate the concept.
In addition, you can fly over some village or any other static structure and blow it up by dropping TNT on it (like an airstrike). If you do that, make sure you are about 20 blocks over the surface so we can see the destruction better.
Good luck and hope to see alpha soon! I volunteer as alpha-tester, if you need me.
I want to play with the mod first before I build anything. If big ships are allowed - I would build a floating island and collect things on it - livestock, crops, villagers, etc. And then stuff it with cannons. If big ships are problematic - I will have specific ships for separate things (including destroyers for offence\defense). I would also like to build a flying experience farm out of a dungeon spawner. To carry it with me. That would be awesome. Or you can use this farm to drop mobs on an enemy ship. XD Spawn 50 skeletons in one spot and then let them out to party (It happened before by an accident. That was horrible)

I turned ice pole to a rocket XD
The mod did not crush once since the last update. There some bugs though that I observe. I will send the to the best soon.

Well, looks like we stumbled across a modder who actually cares about what he does. So we have to be patient.
BTW, Best, any progress/ new videos you can share?

Are these ship starters? I mean, are these blocks that launch a ship?

Fist of all, and I think other will join me here, I want to wish you a quick recovery! I hope you're feeling ok.
Looks like you have a in-depth understanding of all the stuff happening in the mod. So, I'm pretty confident that you will do a great job.
Would you like to start an official mod page and post updates on you progress there? If you already have one, could you please post a link here?

How is everything going? Any serious problems?

Do you have a stable version for single player\lan? We can start catching bugs and crashes right now while you fixing the server issues.
