Don't bother to post things like "clear your cache," etc, etc.

Trial skins 1, chose the Diver and now I'm invisible to everyone. :D Friends have the skin pack, although I'm not even sure if that's necessary. Saved and quit, reloaded... still invisible.

Anyone else invisible? We can invisible spleef like blind men chasing a pinata....

I finally got to see the "Piston X-ray" thing. If you watch them while they extend it seems you can see through quite a few blocks. It's like looking into the mouth of the Enderman....

Well, you have to admit, you KNOW the people who made FortressCraft, Total Miner, etc, thought "Hey, look how popular Minecraft is! I bet if I make something almost identical, I can take advantage of that popularity and make some money off of another guy's game!"

    And that's what they did.

This isn't really true. People enhance software (and games) because they are confident they can make a better product that meets the expectations of users. Without that confidence, money can never come into the equation. Minecraft itself was fueled on this idea with money only entering at a much later date.

Unless, of course, you're one of the Warsow/Tremulus/Alien Arena/Cube2/MineTest/etc guys. Then money just never comes into the equation. :) If you're completely clueless, you should Google up those games - you're missing out on a lot if you have no idea what they are. Minecraft fans should kick up Sauerbraten and see what a real cube engine can do - http://sauerbraten.org/ (and note that this was started in like 2003 or 2004?) or the popular Gary's Mod if you really want to create a rich world for adventuring. But you won't, and even if you do, it's probably too hard for you to figure out (no flame intended, it's tricky).

Now, as for why most people still play Minecraft - it isn't because it's a fantastic product. It's the same reason more people use Windows and buy iPads - because everyone else does. The mod community is large, the features are generic enough to learn quickly, the community is (generally) OK, YouTube videos are abundant, the name is easily recognizable, etc, etc. It just so happens that the crafting and building is so abstract, generic and simple that anyone can use it immediately instead of tackling something like Sauerbraten. The purchase of Minecraft: 360 Ed. was made with any requirements other than "I need Minecraft." Not much thought entered beyond that.

If you want proof of that, just look at the 360 page - people are demanding 4J fix the bugs in "their" game. Sorry, but Minecraft isn't 4Js and has always been (and will always be) a ridiculously buggy and often broken product - it certainly isn't a good business decision for Mojang to keep throwing resources at making a reasonable release (re-release?) of a real, feature rich and finalized release of Minecraft.

As a final point, just look out the outcry for people wanting Creative mode in the 360 version up to the point of frothing at the mouth about being able to abuse a glitch. It's hysterical. Now look at FortressCraft: it's a great product that only has creative mode - with many features Minecraft will never, ever have. You play what fits your expectations - if you want to build with infinite blocks, you're not going to be making any lightbulbs glow with your bright decision of choosing Minecraft: 360 Ed.

Beautiful game, female protagonist. Wonder if there was a connectin. I think it did better in the uk, but I don't have the data infront of me.

Females in videogames are a long bashed, shallow subject where a bunch of immature adults can't get over "boobies" or the fact that real people aren't all androgynous clones that have thrown away all gender roles. At least, it feels that way in the U.S.

In some of the reviews, Bayonetta got bashed for the same reasons that X-blades and now Lollipop Chainsaw are - they claim that the female protagonists are shallow sex symbols. If you've played Lollipop Chainsaw, pay special attention to Nick.... On a shallow level, the game is "T&A" but the story is much better. For all the claims of "shallow game designers making T&A!" there are a bunch of uneducated white knights making shallow cries against women in videogames that wear makeup or have a cup size bigger than A.....

Bayonetta was great and certainly not something that's going to cause the downfall of society because you can see her ankles....

I don't really understand why people are so angry about female skins. There is not many female skins, but does it really matter? It is a building game not a dress up game. No offence.

What is the difference between building and dress-up? I can make a tennis court out of wool for Tennis Steve and it's part of the world that "makes sense."

Minecraft is a completely customizable game and people have those expectations for the 360. On PC for years now, people have been making villages and complete stories/worlds/universes. The worlds they make seem to have a tiny bit of an expanded scope that includes female things, more than 1 type of zombie, human NPCs that don't look like Bert, etc. Dress up is half the fun of those servers.

Yeah, I meant on literal gender reversal. I don't believe that claim. Not do I believe many men play an MMO thinking, "Sweet, now I can finally act and look like the girl I always fantaSized being"...

Ya, I get what you meant, but I have no idea what the other guy was saying that you quoted.

You sort of all sorts of jacked up your post - do you know you double posted and added a quote later?

Anyway, the MMORPG comment was the "alternate" meaning of the abbreviation - "Many Men Online Role Playing Girls".

A lot of the responses here are basically versions of "you shouldn't care about that", which is basically telling someone else how they ought to feel (which, I hope I don't even have to argue, is stupid and patronizing).

Just to sort of clarify this, telling people how they "ought to feel" is a story telling mechanic. The dynamics of Isaac in Dead Space would be expected to be slightly changed for a female. Expectations of players are too high to just accept the same behaviors out of androgynous characters when they imply a gender.

We've heard all sorts of excuses - pixel pushers at Mojang can't make a decent girl, you can customize your skin on the PC version so no one cares, first-person mode invalidates you seeing the character, etc, etc, etc. But the storytelling aspect is missing. Oh, wait, I forgot, Minecraft has absolutely no story. :D

Besides, in this version, you're still going to grunt like a dude..... :\

    Quote from Puma_SPNKr

More guys fantasize about being girls than vice versa? Where did you get this info from? Please present some evidence of this hilarious claim.

Dude, don't you know the meaning of MMORPG? :D

On a side note, that guy is nuts. Both real genders tend to pick characters of the female gender because females are visually more appealing to either gender. There's a study somewhere that I'm too lazy to go find.....

It has nothing to do with fantasizing about gender reversal or whatever.

Exactly, it pisses me off. You know that the developer of Fortress Craft made a video talking trash about Notch?

In the same one (I think? Maybe a different one...) he also goes on about how they should be called block genre games, automatic xp farms not working is ********, etc, etc.

That dude was totally a Minecraft player and, just like notch who decided to reinvent Total Miner, reinvented a block game. The game is really nice with some great innovations, but not for me - I'm not too hype on infinite legos.

But anyone that has run these boards trying to justify the dupe glitch as a feature... They should play FortressCraft. It's much nicer for the creative types. Colored lights, infinite blocks, custom blocks, block effects and more.

fortress craft is ugly as ****....

Someone above already mentioned all the filters you can turn on and off. Not to mention the textures are actually in a reasonable resolution. Also, uh, do you play Minecraft? Cos this thing still looks like hot garbage in Florida that's just baking in the awfulness nearly 24/7 in the heat and humidity while some sort of weird mold or something grows in it causing it to move on it's own and make burping noises...

... actually, that's generally prettier than Minecraft.

posted a message on do elevators work?
Were you trying the side-by-side piston one like in this video?

Because those are awesome, but even on PC in SMP they often have weird clipping issues and require you to eff with them all the time. :\

Like I mentioned to Charity Diary, you can always just hold jump and it will generally work 99% of the time.... but if you wanted to do that, you wouldn't build a @#$! elevator, now would you? :D

posted a message on do elevators work?
Elevators work, but they work like they do in PC SMP - not very well.

You can usually fiddle with repeaters until you find the "sweet spot" for your SMP server and clients. Most Elevator videos should tell you this right at the beginning.

Edit: Oh, I forgot, if you're using the designs that sort of corkscrew around, those generally work fine and the 5 block version I've made on Xbox worked.

    Quote from CharityDiary

They don't work for me, either. Even in areas where I only have one block moving up and down, if I stand on top of that block, I either get thrown to the side, or I go down inside the block.

Make sure you're standing on the "seam" between the two pistons (I'm assuming you're doing the two piston elevator if you're going sideways...?). Adjust the repeaters until it stops doing that..... or just hold jump until the elevator finishes. Jumping always works, it's just really dumb and annoying....

posted a message on Weird Piston Problem...
You are seriously having trouble with the new mechanisms, aren't you? :(

This is an issue even with the current PC version and it also happened prior to the update. When you move away from the chunk containing your redstone (and/or piston) creations they have a possibility to "jam." This also happens sometimes during save/load.

It's a nasty, nasty annoying thing. Sometimes, depending on the circuit, you can make automatic resets. But that doesn't apply to *all* circuits (at least, I know of no perfect method) and if a piston gets jammed extended - it has to be broken every time.

The update added a ton of new features to the Xbox game (friends-only public game, cursor opacity, pistons, lighting, new textures, etc) and so far it's exactly like 1.7.3. Couldn't ask for anything better.
