posted a message on The problem with clay..
There's two problems with clay. The spawn algorithm or whatever has too high of a chance for it to be extremely rare (clay is a very very common substance it shouldn't be rarer than coal) and bricks cost way too much clay to make.

To make one stack of bricks, you need four stacks of clay. Four to one on such a potentially rare resource is far too much.

I would be happy with Four to two, or even better two to one. Because logically if we're making bricks it should be like this:
    :brick: :brick:

    Not:
    :brick: :brick:
    :brick: :brick:

I haven't found any clay yet, and there's a lot of water around this desert. It's pretty expansive though and I haven't gone too far.

Updated OP with latest haul. Waiting the night out in a hole.

posted a message on New Biomes Update Secretly changes resource spawn modifiers?
Okay so, usually in my games at least, even coal is somewhat hard to come by. I'll have to go searching for it, like really look to find it. However, I loaded a new map after the update and spawned in a rocky desert. After setting up my base I went looking for resources. I immediately happened upon block upon block upon block of exposed coal and iron ore. I've already broke three stone pickaxes mining it all and it's only been a few minutes. I can still see where I set up!

I looked around in a nearby forest, I think it is, and there's absolutely no coal or ore on the exposed rock faces.

So my question is: Did Notch secretly make biomes more resource specific?

Update: It's been like maybe 7 minutes, I can still see my house and so far I've found 17 Iron ore and 109 Coal in exposed surface veins

I haven't gone into any caves or anything. I'm only mining veins that I see on the face of a rock.

posted a message on Using the In-Game Texture Pack Selector
I don't get it... we're taking the files out of an archive to put them into an archive?

Can I still use the old method of just dropping the files into minecraft.bin? That seemed a lot bloody easier.

Y'know, I do gotta wonder about how hard it woulda been to work that out yourself.
I mean, the archive is structured to have everything copied over as-is.
I sense your problem solving skills as sub par.

No, I'm just really busy this week. I'm packing up everything before I move on Friday.

Huh? Two types of iron armor? I thought there was only one, and Chainmail was the old version that isn't used anymore?

Anyway can someone help me with installing this? Do I just put the terrain.png and misc folder into my minecraft.bin and patch or do I take the files out of the misc. folder and put them into the minecraft.bin separately, then patch?

First off please read through the thread fully next time, as this has been answered already a few times. To quote the first page:
    "Download:
READ ME: This pack is made to be used with the HD texture fix by Xau. Not using the fix will cause problems such as glitches, crashing, start up errors. I will no longer bother answering questions on my thread relating to errors and glitches unless it is something not common. You can find the HD texture fix HERE."
Go to the first page and download the link, one thing you need to read the forms for is the fact you need to compress it to an archive (.zip, .rar...ect). Just do that then select the file via the installer you downloaded and it will work automatically.

Before you get high and mighty with the 'first off do such and such next time' stuff maybe you should read my post fully first. I already said I use the MC Patcher.

As far as it being answered already a few times, no, it has not, because Soulscribe just added the new misc folder so that his texture pack could work with the biomes.

All I want to know is where that stupid misc folder goes. Does it just go into minecraft.bin or do I take the two .png files out of it and put those in minecraft.bin

That is not answered in the OP.

Uh... to install it before, I copied the terrain.png into the minecraft.bin folder and then ran the MC patcher. It worked fine...

So how do I install the new texture packs? Just extract the terrain.png and misc folder into my minecraft.bin?

Also the armor is looking sexy Soulscribe. It's really a shame you can't change the player model to use 128x textures too.

I can't wait to see what you do with the tools and stuff.

I'm looking at the greystone texture pack and I'm curious why is the grass and leaf textures grey? And where did the fire texture go?

    Looks good otherwise though.

    Street Lamp: http://www.ivgstores.com/prodimages-cdl ... 0310-L.jpg
Plants like a sign, when 'broken' gives the full object so it can be placed again. Gives a little bit more light than a torch (because it's higher up). Is three blocks tall. Needs at least 3 blocks clearance to be placed.
    :DBlock: = Lantern (when released)

    Hanging Lantern: http://www.lanterns-r-us.com/images/P/1 ... ANTERN.jpg
Hangs from the bottom of a block. Hangs down 1 block, needs 3 blocks clearance to be placed.
    :DBlock: = Lantern (when released)
    :|: = String
:Iron: :|: :Iron: (This would make like a chain or something I guess)

    Wall Lantern: http://www.gowfb.com/images/03196-Lagun ... 766276.jpg
Sits on a wall like torches do right now.

    Fireplace: http://hallmarkcountryhomes.com/FireplaceBrick.jpg
Creates a fireplace block. It's like a furnace (can be opened) but it only has 1 slot (fuel) and can only burn wood products. It burns them a lot longer than a furnace (A block of wood will burn for as long as coal, sticks 1/4 as long, and a whole log 4x as long).
    :brick: :brick: :brick:
    :brick: :Furnace: :brick:
    :brick: :brick: :brick:

This is all I can think of for now. I really felt there needed to be some variety in light sources. I always hated how you couldn't put the light on the ceiling, or how low to the ground torches are.

All lanterns wouldn't be put out with water, but they'd produce a LOT less light.

    What do you guys think?

That's dumb. He should open it to every single size texture pack. Get some really awesome diverse stuff.
