Yes, to do this you will need a plugin.
This is a plugin that the server is using, I'm not familiar with it, nor do I know what it is called. If you are looking to use it on your own server the easiest thing to do would be ask the people on the server what plugin they are using.
I was recently looking for some permission nodes for essentials. When I stumbled upon this list. I don't know if people have seen it before, but when I have searched before nothing like this came up. I believe that this list has all essentials permission nodes, the commands the nodes give, and what the command or node does for the player. I hope you find the list helpful.
Don't be sorry for asking questions, I was confused by things when I started playing to, and playing on servers can be confusing because of the variety of different types there are. Answering your questions will be difficult because almost every server is different, in the sense that they all use different plugins. But i will do my best
- My best guess as to why you cannot build is the servers you are going have a guest rank that isn't allowed to build. A lot of servers will make you apply to get promoted, or have a simple way to get promoted at the spawn. On my server new people cannot build until they get a staff member to promote them.
- How you make money will depend on the type of server your playing on, or how the staff of the server have set it up. Most servers will have a admin shop, which is a place that you can go and sell or buy items. I would suggest you try to find the admin shop on the server your on and see what sells for the best money, then go get some of that item and sell it. Other servers will simply have a /sell command which will allow you to sell items straight form your inventory anywhere on the map.
- Factions is a very popular plugin choice for servers. It allows groups of players to create a semi-protected area to build, but if you die as part of the faction the faction loses power, and can be raided and taken over. This means you will lose all stuff that is on the faction's land. To join you will need to get the owner of the faction or a faction assistant to invite you. There is a lot of other things to Factions, but I am in no means a expert. I would suggest going to the website http://massivecraft....lugins/factions and if you look around I believe you will find some more explination of factions.
