We need day beds so we can set the time to night, if we want.

Well, you shouldn't have to manually exit it, especially considering it never happened with previous versions, and having the code load in front of you is messy and unprofessional. Hopefully they fix it, or at least put in some some options that accomodate both the players that don't mess with the technical stuff and the ones that do. -

I don't want to see a giant screen of code loading and then the launcher staying up in the background while the game is running. -

Damnit, too slow on the draw. -

I really like how I've got my workstations set up and would hate to have to trash it to accomodate a graphical feature.Posted in: News

Granted this is all in Minecraft where none of these things exist, so I'm not saying "build exactly as I said above", but it would certainly look better if you gave it a wider support base using stairs. Really just start a ring at the second lowest brick and do a ring, then do a second ring at the lowest block, that should make it look stable enough with a distinctive slope.. You may also reconsider building it in a lighter material for realism purposes. After all, lighthouses counted on their bright exterior paint to stand out in the night just as much as they count on the light at the top. You could try sandstone or quarts, if you've got enough if you're playing survival.
But as first tries go, not bad.

You spawn in a jungle with a really nice temple directly behind your spawn on the hill. The area is pretty nice as well.

You will spawn with a desert temple directly in front of you along a coastline.

In an effort to keep my patience, I'm just going to quote the Wikipedia entry on symmetry concerning architecture.
If you do some research (or simply click those links) you'll find there are so many amazing designs you can create. Am I saying you can't make something great with what you have now? No, but it'll certainly be easier if you use these pointers I've given you.
The overall design of the house is fine, but you have to do something to break up all the sandstone. Nothing ever looks good when you just build using one type of block. You might even consider making your exterior walls two blocks thick, that way when decorating a room you can maintain your exterior walls while working with a interior theme.
Like say if you wanted to keep your entirely sandstone exterior (something I do not recommend) but wanted to have a disco room or something with lots of colors that don't mesh well with the butter yellow look of sandstone, a two block thick exterior wall will allow you to decorate your disco room without leaving a big multicolored patch on the side of your house.

Do this, and you'll never be lost again.

You should try to make the outside gardens blend better with the house itself, though building in the Superflat works against you here. you should drop down two blocks and ring the house with a garden, using multiple fountains and trees, making sure to hide your light sources appropriately (hiding them within fountains of placing jackolanterns within the middle of trees tends to work excellently).
Doing these things will help my your house visually distinct.
Also your interior decorating will be extremely difficult because the house lacks symmetry. Yes, it's possible to make homes that are all crazy Escher paintings, but if you want a good interior, you have to make sure your dimensions are in odd numbers and that each side matches up with the other. Houses that are built symmetrical are often called 'boring' but that is because most people don't put enough effort into making them visually distinct through the use of block contrasts, accent lighting and exterior decoration like window planters (signs surrounding grass blocks with flowers or seeded soil), hedges (leaf blocks) or window shutters (trap doors).
Don't be afraid to experiment and do crazy things like rooftop gardens or turn a entire side of the house into a waterfall (just so long as you use stone for the wall, source pool and waterfall basin. Perhaps continue the water flow throughout the garden areas.) if you think it will fit the overall theme of your house. Again working in the Superflat will make doing these things more difficult since you only have limited block space beneath you, but it is doable.
Personally you should save your house's outline and go find a suitable area in a normal Creative world. working with the terrain, as mentioned above, will always help your design stand out.
Also, the description you gave your second picture is incorrect. The proper term is courtyard. The word atrium means a enclosed space containing multiple floors ending with a glass roof, which is meant to counteract the claustrophobic feeling of being inside a large enclosed space by providing space, light and air flow.

I'll make a new thread if I start getting the weird framerate drops and then crash to desktop again.
Craftninja, thanks a bunch for your help.

Would someone like to walk me through how to switch Minecraft over to reading the 64-bit Java?
