I don't mind doing gray area cheats, and therefore I don't object to throwing out Netherrack and replacing it with an equal quantity of Netherbrick, just because I see no reason for that not to be a crafting recipe in game. Hey, you can do it with stone brick, so why not Netherbrick? I'm thinking of possibly building a Netherbrick fortress, but I'd like to see if anyone has any better ideas, possibly without the gray area of cheating.
Uh. It's NOT quite equal. Mining rack vs brick is different. I've mined A LOT of both. The mining speed 1st off isn't equal. Then you also have rarity vs common. Might as well turn all that insanely quick mined netherrack into mossy cobble and circle stone while you're at it.
Tekkit = Lag.
The first router may of had bad bandwidth and the computer has low RAM.
Thing is though, both the servers were running fine for a good week or 2 before this lag kicked in. And the tekkit server is runnin fine on a shittier computer with a backup router. So the server that actually is lagging actually has better hardware and whatnot than the tekkit server that is running just fine.
Go bigger, get 4 towers that are each 3 cells tall. It looks pretty awesome to me. Possibly connect them more as well, like give them support beams going across like you did going up.
I play on my buddies server, a vanilla 1.3.2 server. The past week it has had lag so terrible, the game has become unplayable. The server has been reset, the computer isn't used for anything else, we can't find a reason for this excessive lag.
He has a tekkit server running on a separate computer, going through a separate router that is even on a worse computer than the vanilla server, yet seems to run just fine. They both were running fine together up until about a week ago.
Any help/ideas anyone?
Honestly, the nerf doesn't affect me. I built an endermen xp farm on my server, so I'm in the clear. However, I do see where this is going. I can understand the work it takes going into making these farms. As if mobs didn't spawn slow enough from spawners, now they're nerfed. You're lucky if you can get a double spawner too. I can also see the reason for Dinnerbone nerfing the spawners. It's extremely easy to get xp now, you get it from anything like mining to cooking, and you level up waaaaayyyy faster than before. However, what good is nerfing gonna do if people like me have the endermen farm or a mob xp farm (not using spawners) to get around it? They're faster than spawners anyway, so really, it's like encouraging people to make faster xp farms.
As I said, I can see and understand both sides, however I don't see how nerfing will help if there are easy and more efficient ways around it. You're basically getting a Diet Coke with your Big Mac and large fries. What good is the Diet gonna do?
I had a quick drop (hole straight down with water at the bottom for a safe landing) followed by a logoutivator (trap door with solid blocks above it all the way up to ground level. Place self in trap door, close door, log out, log back in, ???, profit) but sadly, it doesn't work in 1.3 :/
Here is how I see it. I built an iron golem farm. I now get over 7 stacks of iron per hour. Because of that, I can get as many emeralds from villagers as I want, just by trading buttloads of iron. Now, with the access to those emeralds, I have access to all the diamond tools and armor I could need, really taking the use for diamond almost completely away. Basing your book system off a resource that could become dropped to the value of nothing doesn't really work. Any book written to be worth 10 iron or 3 diamond now doesn't mean that much. Currency all depends on how the server functions. You have a pretty great idea there, but it isn't for everyone.
You're welcome guys. I would keep updating this, but the topic as trouble staying alive. I changed the title to be more toward the point, hopefully that helps. Anyway, glad I could be of great help.
JL2579 personally sent me this link. He doesn't really go into detail though, nor can it really be stackable if squid only have like 12 layers they can spawn on. Anyway, doesn't hurt to check out.
I don't know then, the more I dig into this, the more useless it's starting to seem.
I'm sure there is a way to make this work though. There are ways to breed infinite villagers, farm iron golems, make record farms, gold farms (zombie pigmen), and less than a week after the 1.3 update, I see a zombie pigman overworld portal farm, etc. So there has to be a way for this to happen and to work well.
For now, unless someone with a great design comes along, I'll just put it aside until I finish all of my other projects I have stacked up. But this truly has my curiosity going crazy.

Yes, cause that's how I play Minecraft.
