I think most can agree that security and exploit patching should automatically take a higher priority than adding new features or fixing minor bugs that really don't cause many issues.

I can understand them just fine. I'm not from the UK either. -
Aug 8, 2014StealthBravo posted a message on New Fences? New Gates?I can't find the Tweet, but Dinnerbone has been talking a lot about game optimization testing that they've been doing internally. They are trying to make MC more performance-oriented, believe me, they have not forgotten about it at all.Posted in: News
As for the new fences, finally, please add it Mojang! -

The default font is Helvetica, you can select it in the Font Family menu in the editor. -
Jul 2, 2014StealthBravo posted a message on The New Minecraft Forum is Now Live! Most of the users here aren't used to the flat/metro themes, so yeah, most won't like it for a long time. It doesn't help that the theme on the IPB site was there for over 2 years, so most were really used to it and stuff. I have lots of things I would change, but whatever. I think they had plans to make this look a bit better, don't quote me on that though.Posted in: News

You said we'll be logged out of our accounts; I guess that means we won't be able to view member profiles.
Honestly, I'm quite used to this current format; it'll be really, really weird to suddenly switch to the new one.
Though I'm not nearly as active here after that one thread that shall not be named got deleted (or at least hidden from public view), so I guess it won't really mean much.
It's not that big of a switch... Sure, it's new software, but it has almost all of the features that IPB has, with the addition of a few more useful things. Not to mention that it's more performance savvy, doesn't eat your posts, etc. This will probably be the final software switch for this forum for a long, long time to come. You'll get used to it
NO, THIS IS PATRICK.Quote from AudacityTidesSo will we be able to access beta.minecraftforum.net? [Sorry if this has been already answered, and sorry if it's a dumb question to ask.]
It will probably remain up for a week or two after the live site is running Cobalt, but that's up to Curse. -

I wonder what forums your using...
Anyway, liking the new forums, good job
It's using Cobalt, a custom forum software platform developed for Curse sites.

I love how this happened some months after I published the "flat MCF design" concept by me.. .-.
It was bound to happen since that's the latest design craze, although I don't think it goes real well with Minecraft honestly. -

Has post editing really been fixed? I've only tested the new site a little, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Considering the host of new problems with formatting posts, I can't see how it could be.
Either way, its too great a sacrifice for too miniscule a payoff. Even if that one tiny problem has been solved (which I've seen no indication of), it's only been replaced with numerous other problems that are equally crippling, if not more so, which really defeats the purpose. It simply wouldn't be worth it.
The editor is 100% fixed, so it shouldn't eat your posts anymore. -

By disabling Javascript in your browser these forums are just as fast as the new ones.

Banning IP's is still pointless because you can just use a proxy to get around it. - To post a comment, please login.

Oh, good to hear. Which plugin?

What errors do you get? If this is a small server, SQLite is fine, but if you plan on trying to get a decent player base, MySQL would be a much better choice.
0
It's using SQLite by default. The developer of the plugin likely has documentation on how to change this, and considering you paid for the plugin, you should really be asking the developer about this. If he hasn't added documentation about how to change this, I'm honestly impressed. The page below should answer your question.

I see where you're coming from, and the requests section can have a legitimate use for some people. The problem is, 95% or more of the threads in that forum are people wanting a free server or a sponsorship who have no idea what they're doing, with most of the sponsorship requests falling through and hosts just end up advertising their paid services more often than not. If someone really was looking for a sponsorship, contacting companies directly about it would be a much better way to go, since companies often won't look for you, you look for them.
Most of the people posting in the forum don't follow the recommended guides or templates that are stickied either, so we also end up having a bunch of three sentence posts demanding a sponsorship for a factions server or some other old and overused concept. It really gets frustrating to look at, and it's not the intention of the forum. People don't seem to get that.

The error is self-explanatory. Essentials is not installed (EssentialsProtect can't run on its own) or Essentials failed to load (broken config, mismatched versions, etc.). Ensure you have Protect and the base Essentials plugin on the same version/branch of Essentials and that Essentials itself is able to load.

Delete usercache.json. Should fix it.

Using a system like BanManagement is the only way to do this without making something yourself (BM has a separate web interface, you can customize it to appear to be a part of your main site).

Yes, portfowarding is reasonably safe, especially in this usage scenario. It becomes unsafe when you fail to take security precautions when running large public servers on a dedicated machine or even from home, like using an administrator/root account for running the server, opening wide ranges of ports unnecessarily, etc. Considering this is only for you and a friend, there is basically no risk involved.

Better performance doesn't hurt your hardware.
No, it can't. You could reach maybe 2,000 or so if you have mobs off, completely flat, low settings, but that's not the point of this.
1
It is easier to do this through Essentials, it's not complicated whatsoever. Your config would look like this, you're just replacing 'Moderator' and 'Admin' with whatever the name of the actual groups are. Of course, you can also add more by simply copying and pasting those lines and changing appropriately.

It can't be the host's fault, this is exclusively a plugin issue.
Again, will need logs and full list of plugins, since your originals are pretty hard to use to put together a complete solution with. The problem could be what I initially said, or it's just the server crashing from something else and the flatfile SQL storage is just moaning about not being able to write as the server dies.

Join dates go by the server time, and it's 11/20 where the servers are located. It really shouldn't be this way and is inconsistent, so I'll put in a bug report.
1
Appears I misunderstood that part, whoops.
Rules regarding what can be posted in server threads have been bolstered compared to a couple years ago due to people trying to get around our no bumping rule. In order to get around the no bumping rule, people just redirected members to discuss all server matters in a server thread in order to bump it up constantly. This is no longer allowed, and has been the case for about a year or so. The discussions in there rarely are anything of significance, are there to bump the thread up most of the time, and cloud the thread up with unnecessary posts. Casual conversation should be handled via the server's forum or by other means, but the thread should not be the general discussion place for a server. For updates, you may post them, but they must be more than "added some things to spawn", "squashed a few bugs", etc. When you make an update, it should be cumulative, a collection of updates over a period of time, small or large. It should not be daily, but if it's something urgent, you may make a new update post. Whether your updates are bumping/update spam or not is at the discretion of a staff member, but it is pretty obvious what is bumping and what isn't.
The post in this section was deleted by someone browsing through topics, it was never reported, so it's not like we took down your post via a report and left the other. Again, I don't really see anything wrong with the posts you made, so it's being looked into.
4
Since the post in question was in my section, I've deleted it and taken appropriate action.
Keep in mind that we can't be everywhere all the time. We all have lives, we may catch some posts in a thread, and others may slip past us. If we miss them, we rely on you to report them to us so that we can take appropriate action. In either case, we have no bias here, and it is as simple as just missing the post in question.
Posts in the report queue can take a few hours to be solved, or a few minutes, it just depends who's here. If it's been days without anything, then yes, you should contact us through other means, but a few hours is not really a very long time, and shouldn't be really alarming.
Regarding the removal of that post, specifically, the one with the chat conversation, if it is a whitelist thread, then yes, that post is in violation of the rules, and you should technically receive an off-topic warning. Discussing post removals and other forum-related things in a server thread (especially when you're bashing the staff team pretty blatantly) is not the right way to address any concerns you have, and just serves to derail the topic. Concerns? Talk to a staff member or submit a ticket.
As for accusing administrators of abusing powers, that is quite a length to go to without even getting proper explanation from anyone. I have no idea why it was deleted, but it will be looked into, and undeleted if found to be in error, but in any case, throwing accusations around isn't the right approach to this situation.

These logs are very inconclusive, but the errors on here appear to show that when a player joins, there is a plugin is trying to write to a flatfile SQL file, and is failing to do so, and in turn, crashing the server (shouldn't happen even if it fails to write). In either case, we'll definitely need more logs than what you currently have. A list of plugins would be useful too.
