    Ok I'm seriously seriously wondering what in blazes people arn't getting..these pictures are very much plain as day. But let me try to explain it in another way that hopefully you'll get, please pay attention.


    Actually go into minecraft, right now...I'll wait for you..just open it up.

    Now find a spot you want to try this out, dig down a bit, etc.

    Now pick an area to make a 'wall'. Make it so the wall is 7 blocks wide, and 7 blocks tall, it should look about like this. Mind you the other side of the wall is just more/unknown rock. The idea is that you want to make exploration tunnels into the wall.

    The white spaces being where your tunnel now is. As a general note, digging this tunnel makes it so you can see the rocks lining the tunnel, so you now know what certain blocks are, in this case I'm gonna mark them with :Teal: .

    Once you've gone forward enough, its time to make another tunnel to explore..to catch everything you 'missed' on either side of the first tunnel. So going back to the wall again, you start a new digging area..eventually making a new huge hole in that wall. So the wall looks about like this.

    Now the idea is that you continue digging tunnels, your exploration tunnels will remain marked by [] , the blocks you can see due to them will continue to be marked with different colored wools

    So thats 4 exploration shafts, dug into a wall directly infront of you, each shaft allows you to see 8 different adjoining blocks. Now some blocks are left 'unviewed' but assuming you continue the pattern, of having 3 blocks inbetween each tunnel side to side...and shifting the upper row two spaces to the right it'll eventually look like this as viewable blocks/tunnels.

    I'm hoping this isn't too confusing as I got into the purpose of these different types of tunnels, but I figured that would be important.

    The important thing to remember is that you are looking at a wall when someone draws these pictures, and the white spaces are tunnels that have been dug into the wall directly. While the other blocks are the wall itself.

    Actually those 4 arn't missed, unless its the actual left/right edge of the tunnels...this system is designed to go continuously and not miss anything within the confines of the pattern. Besides if you are gonna do that, then you missed this.

    Hmm...if I had to remove something that was actually added? And not just state some random thing I'd technically like to see added, but instead saying I wanted the exact opposite of it removed?

    Well..honestly I don't want to remove anything, so this is an extreme if I had to make a choice I would choose this, because honestly MODs can handle removing anything I don't want/like.

    You're bigger problem honestly just seems to be that your inner part of the path starts to curve too late (or too shallowly)..or the outside curves too early/too sharp. Remember an inner portion curves much slower than an outer portion.

    You're best bet in building this is make a simple one block wide at all times inner path..then build towards the outer path..making sure the distance from the inner to the outer is always X squares wide (with X being how wide you want it to be). if at any point any edge..any at all is less than X away..you need to increase the size of that part of the path.

    OT: seeds can be letters too right? and a combination of the both i think.

    So that means that either they are all set, or generated when the world is created. But how can they be generated if they are the same for everyone...UGH

    Since I've programmed enough to know the answer to this....

    In order to create the world notch uses a 'Psudorandom number generator'. Basically that means everything is created using a specific formula..that formula does its best to seem random. But if you give that formula the same starting point (seed) each and every time, you'll get the exact same output every single time.

    When you don't enter a seed the program actually looks for a value on your computer that it knows changes so often it might as well be random..because you'll be hard pressed to click in such a way as to get that exact same value pulled out.

    So yeah, they are generated when you create it..you can just manage to tell it to generate the exact same thing again.

    Actually a very simple one, its about the only major failure I've ever had..and while I rectified the mistake later..it produced some spectacular results that I'm thinking of re-creating someday, none the less.


    Had a house I made sometime back, really more of a tower, multiple floors, reached the very top of the world, situated on a pillar that just spawned as a pillar in game, hidden way inside, mining operation based on that building, huge lavafall that started at the top of the tower and fell strait down to a neat little pathway to a pool of lava. And I even have/had a theme for that game, everything I made I would purposefully make to stand out from the world, mainly by making it out of wood. Quite lovely and that tower was my first building in that game.

    And then the lava catching stuff on fire update hit...


    I will say this, it became quite a spectacular lava beacon...though I did eventually manage to stop the lava, and rebuild the building exactly as I had it before.

    Why not give a slightly different answer, mines pretty simple.

    Once I have a base established I pick a good area for a mine (it should be noted even a small base is good enough). Pick a direction..then mine at an angle going down, 2 wide, 4 blocks tall coridors. Once I hit bedrock I pick a direction and start to angle back up to the surface. Create a base at the new area (or a tiny outpost) and go back to doing that again.

    When I hit caves I search the entire thing, digging up whatever I need, dig out any good veins, etc, sometimes at bedrock I'll sprout off in all 4 directions. Adjust for caves as needed, etc.

    It hits me a decent amount of caves, gives me a ton of cobble and dirt to do with as I need..and also helps me establish bases in areas as needed, and is a half decent way of exploring the world in slow steps.

    Pronounce it how you like..but because some of us pronounce it Mob instead of Mobe dosn't mean its wrong.

    As for the entry..its slightly off. This is comming from someone who played online in the games that actually popularized the term as its used.

    It dosn't stand for MOBile. it stands for Mobile OBject. It's an old term from MU** (MUDs, MUSHes, MUCKs, etc). Basically think text based WoW, or Everquest, and you'd have the right idea. It refered to any 'object' in the game that was capable of somehow moving around within the different rooms of the game itself. Both enemies and allies.

    Most pronunciations I've ever seen for it back when MU** games were popular, from the people who made the games itself were Mob.

    Sadly I can't provide any pictures as my first world ever got corrupted..and ever several tries to save it I just killed the world. With that said.

    My first ever was a small hole in the ground..just a small natural cave..I played round with one side, boxed it in, and put in a doorway. I did eventually expand it..found a whole cave complex after a touch of digging..it looks pretty decent, had a tree farm, a normal farm, my first ever boat on the beach right outside my home (with a small dock)..my first crack at a feature (a take on a lava fountain), and a few other things.


    Nowadays that is how I start most worlds...run around collecting resources the first day..when it comes night I find a suitable cave, place some light, and wall up the enterance until I can place just a door, do so. Then dig the night away.

    If I like the area I stick round..if not I place some sort of marker and keep going.

    The most that means is that it dosn't create as much at once. You can still get a OMGWTFBBQ huge map, if you just keep exploring. The size of the map is based on how much you explore, my first map (before it got corrupted) started at 1mb..it stopped at 21mb.

    Here try this as a test. Make a map. Pick a direction. Walk in that direction for 30 minutes (or more). Exit map..look to see how big it is now.

    Make a huge friggin lit marker (like a bit light house with lava in it..or torches around the top). Make it easy to be seen from a distance. Also make it distinctive if viewed from the air.

    If your house is near where you spawn, make a compass it will always point you to spawn.

    Finally the distinctive if viewed from air thing. Go to the modding and mapping forum, grab cartographer. It'll make you a map...and if you set up something showing your current location...you can see where you are in relation to where your house is.

    ahh yes tree farms.

    When Planting mine I always plant them all on one block of raised dirt with a torch attached to it. This staves off the destructive enemies.

    As for decaying..there is a certain logic to the system...logs will stay wherever. Leaves will disapear if they don't have a line of connection to a log...or if they are just too far away from something solid in general. I've actually slowly created a roof over my tree farm by purposefully not cutting the tops of extreemly high trees. Basically I cut everything I can standing directly beneath the tree and nothing more. This has slowly created a friggin huge canopy that stays up of its own accord. Tis very neat.

    Ok decided I wanted something semi complicated..something that uses treasure chests..but without a way to directly access treasure chests..figured out that wasn't possible...until now. I now present two placeholder runes, that mimic what I want the treasure chest for (until you can directly access treasure chests) and then an example rune of what this is.

    Ok first things first...input.

    This rune stores items into a 'runecraft virtual chest', I'll refer to it as a runechest for short. Basically whatever you place into the empty spot gets placed into the runechest. Since you can alter all rightclicks an that sorta stuff :tongue.gif:. Basically a new file is created on the server that saves runechest contents. You can even replace the east and west cobblestones next to the chest with signature blocks to allow multiple runechests for one person. Chest contents are saved per player and not per server (though if you feel it should be a community thing..up to you). To keep things sane for 'outputting' I'm gonna say each runechest should have a maximum of 10 different item slots (each one capable of holding a stack of its item). I'll let you decide if its infinate or set at some limit (64..more since there are less slots?). Now the output rune.

    Place cobblestone block in one of the blank spaces of the top part, corresponding with a slot number in the runechest, and when you use the rune the entire slot is emptied and given to the player.


    Now with the redundant function out of the way, lets go to how we use this. The slots inside of the runechest can also be used in the activation of structure creation runes. Subtracting whats in the runechest and using it when building (again this is a stopgap until you can access actual chests...at that point these runes will use the physical chests inventory instead). Lets start with a simple one. First a rune that all of these will involve...the 'sourcechest' rune.

    In all constructions I will have a :chestfront: symbol..replace that symbol with this rune. With the connector actually connecting. It should be noted that, if using a runechest and runechests have signature blocks..replace redstone directly east and west of the chest with sig blocks..no matter which way the connector runs. Finally all redstone as part of making a construction rune is used up.

    Now for a tower maker rune. The Tower!

    The sourcechest is placed on the middle of any of the 5 sides. that side is where the 2 block high entryway will be placed, and where a spiral staircase will be accessable from..

    This will, of course, build a simple tower with a spiral staircase in the middle. Replace the Cobblestone blocks with any other block to build it out of that block. all blocks for building will be taken out of the sourcechest (or runechest..if using a runechest replace east/west red dust with sig blocks if such things exist), replace the middle cobblestone with 2 halfsteps to create a halfstep spiral inside of the tower. Finally either its set at making, say a 30 block high tower (or wherever it makes sense) or you can make it so blocks placed into the blank spaces inside of it actually tell you how high to make the tower.


    "The Wall".

    Won't even bother drawing this out. Its a strait line of blocks surrounded by redstone, sourcechest at one end. I'd suggest in 10 block high increments. If you really want something to decide the height...oh crap new general rune comming up.

    For any construction rune that requires a size defined this rune will tell you what size to make it. Since I'm thinking mostly big buildings. It goes 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 (left to right, top to bottom). This would also free up the middle post for the tower rune. In order to make it a half step tower, replace the blank spaces with a floor of half steps :tongue.gif:.


    This is just a couple of ideas...the redstone placements honestly seem simplistic..but..I wouldn't know how to change it correctly. Also a general idea for someone else to figure out..as well as llama.

    What would be the symbol of runecraft? How about a rune that when activated creates the symbol?
