Sorry i only just now got back, busy in my real life an all that. Thanks for looking in on the issue, since I know you're taking suggestions, how about this one on for size?

The ability to either push a keyboard button to switch to its shortcut tool. Or hold it down to temporarily switch to the tool for as long as the button in held down?

As an example, using your defaults.

I push e...it switches to eraser until I pick something else.
I hold down e, it switches to eraser until I release the e key, then goes back to whatever I was previously using.

I know its possible to do this...as I've seen other programs do it..but I have no idea how hard it is to do..so I figure I'd throw it out there :smile.gif:.

Another one that I think is useful as you add in more advanced brush type tools, and different things like the noise filter..is a selection tool. If you've seen other programs I'm sure you know what it does..but just in case, in basic thought. This tool lets you drag itself around a set of pixels...then release. Once you've done that the pixels are selected (most programs also allow you to add or subtract from the selection tool using modifier keys..like shift to go into add mode...ctrl into subtract mode...nothing just makes a new selection). From there on...you are only able to alter the selected pixels. You can also manipulate the selection in other ways. Like copy/cut pasting it (using a form of cut/pasting that lets you just drag it around so you can visually see where it goes as well).

I figure both of those would be useful for a minecraft editor....the selection thing is honestly only that useful if you add in more filters or ways of touching up.

Downloaded the 1.3 version and ran into an exception error. I went ahead and downloaded the latest release..and had the exact same error.

The error occurs whenever I try to go to RGBA or HSLA mode, not sure if its the same error, so I got a copy of each one just in case. Anyway incomming text files of the issue.

For further information..once I 'ok' the error...it still works in full..but the sliders for adding more/less of individual values...just have huge red X's over them instead of being graphically there.

I've just installed this and didn't change any settings at all.

No, it is not a joke. Notch really did remove herobrine, so you don't need to worry about or discuss him anymore. he's gone.

    Quote from Depth »
My first question is, how do you run out of coal? I understand if your pretty much new but seriously.

In my case, I spend somuch time doing stuff that dosn't involve mining that I don't always have ready access.

Heck I often prefer to use wood for some of my building projects (part of why I always have a tree plantation..or 3..). So sometimes I'll wind up not going underground for several days ingame..I'll use up all my coal on torches that I use to light up the landscape..make it pretty..or whatever. Charcoal is handy for when that happens.

Abstaining from voting because my option isn't available.

But I will say this..I'm so glad I'm not a pure coal user...from the posts in this thread those people are jerks. Calling people names..say they don't deserve to play minecraft, calling people kiddies..just in general being cruel. I think thats a strike and a half against using coal right there..in my opinion. Maybe I should go back and vote charcoal.....

As for me, I developed the habit way way long ago to use only wood to power furnaces and use all coal for the purpose of making torches. Because before charcoal only coal could make torches, and it seemed a waste to use up the only sources of torches as I use a mess of them for mining, for outdoor lighting, for designs, etc.

Once charcoal came out, what I do has become different. Whenever I'm near it, and my furnace isn't smelting something else, I grab some fuel (planks if I got no charcoal, charcoal if I have it), and some logs..and proceed to make charcoal out of the logs that I would normally break down for fuel for the furnace anyway. As for it costing too much..this is the simple way i see it.

I spend a single charcoal, just a single one. I get 8 charcoal out of it. So I can use one charcoal to make 64 items (again I do this on downtime, so its not taking up valuable time...and out of wood I would have burned anyway). I tend to stop the iterations there...as otherwise it'd be silly to say 'infinate' item creation that way.

Meanwhile I still use normal coal for torches...and as I run through torches faster than I find coal, I occasionally borrow from my charcoal reserve to make some torches. So yeah I do have problems with finding coal..but I also dig in odd ways.

posted a message on Your Opinions On This Blog Post?
I...to a degree agree with the blog post, but on the other side disagree.

Any game becomes boring..all games eventually becomes boring, its not a question of a game being bad..its just a question of time and a persons individual interests.

With that said, I personally feel that this game was not designed to be an adventure type game origionally. At the most it was designed to have exploration type gameplay, with the monsters designed to give you a reason to actually build structures over being there to actually be hard.

On the other side of this, I understand the want for adventure, a big thing to remember is just that anything that can help an adventure can easily have effects on the building side. Got a mob who digs its way to an adventurer who blocks himself into safety? Well goodbye to the builders nice constructions.

Got a 'tier' or 'level up' system that he discussed (the spider being required to make the bow that kills it easily)? Well anything useful in building is now restricted to that. Can't mine a block without a substance made from a super tough enemy? Now you need to build up to kill that enemy to get the substance to mine the block.

With that said, do also remember the 'adventure mode' that Notch said heplanned at one time (as well as zombie survival). Adventure mode being..you can use stuff, you can make a few things..but much of the building and removing building is knocked out of the game. The idea being someone creates a dungeon/adventure for others to go into, in a creative mode type thing (or survival). Then passes the save out to someone else to be played in adventure mode.

Finally..I think in the end Notch needs to work more on the API..and sticking in stock blocks, abilities, creatures, and so on. Just all the basics for people to work and build upon. The API is what will actually extend the life of the game and make people like it. Being able to let people put into the game the specialized stuff that not everybody wants to see but small subsections do, is what will keep the game alive.

I don't want my game full of creatures that destroy the buildings I make..but others will want them, an API to create and install those is what the game needs.

As for magic..notch has already mentioned what he wants..and I agree. For the sake of minecraft I don't want any over attack magic. No fireballs, no icebolts. Enchant the sword, enchant bows, enchant armor, etc. Do the soft passive things..that ward creatures..that make some things spawn more often, that convince creepers to not run after you, to supress explosions. To make monsters active neutral to you, and so on. Seem like the kind of magic thats fitting to minecraft.

posted a message on Why does everybody like porkchops so much
Let me throw in a couple of cents..and state a few points. This is why its prefered over other methods.

1: Bread: You must farm wheat, which means making the hoes needed, moving water as needed (via buckets, so you need at least 3 iron, unless you're lucky to have the perfect farming spot naturally). Then you need to build it in a way that animals won't get inside and ruin it. Then you gotta take the time to actually harvest it, and replant things to get getting wheat. Unless you kill skeletons to get bone meal...which is time you could have spent killing pigs instead.
2: Fish: i've tried fishing...I honestly got pork off pigs fster than fishing, sometimes the fish just arn't biting at all. And you don't get anything. It's as unreliable as pork, if not more so and heals less.
3: Cake: Seriously? No, seriously? A mess of crap you gotta do. First you need 9 iron for the buckets. Then you need to find cows, then you need to grow wheat, and ontop of that you need to find sugar cane. And still you need egg as well. The chicken might not even be laying eggs, I know I've gone hours without seeing a chicken lay an egg..cow finding might be uncoporative. Plus all the farming crap mentioned earlier. And you get a single cake that you must set on the ground, then click multiple times to get fully healed, and you can't take a cake that you've set down with you anymore. So, buh? No!
4: Mushrooms: hard to find..'just go to neather?'. Where ghasts, and pigmen wait?

On the aside, any method to 'farm' the ingredients needed for wheat (bone meal) or for the eggs, could also be applied to pigs. And if you go to the neather for shrooms..the pigmen drop precooked bacon..which heals you even more, and you don't need to spend wood.

As for cooking...why find coal? Honestly my furnace runs off of coal and charcoal, which I just make myself when I don't have any better use for the furnace.

posted a message on So everybody killed monsters all night long?(Playstyle poll)
Hmm..so far about 50% say they stayed indoors..a few more say they just alt-tabbed. So, so far all the beds have done to these people is..make them not do stuff indoors? Or allow them to play the game uncontested instead of reading lolcats?

A few went outside at night...so they are prob the ones actually affected by beds..as they are now tempted to bed at night I guess? Instead of going outdoors...

I really do feel it is just some people wanting something to complain about..and feeling beds is the best thing to go for. But I like to give people a chance..yaknow, actually find a chance to explain things, and proove they arn't just being whiners.

Yeah..I know it'll take many more replies to get things going..but honestly.

So far I see the beds as having made little impact, as so many tended to just find a way indoors. Sometimes exaggerations....heh.

posted a message on So everybody killed monsters all night long?(Playstyle poll)
So, with the advent of beds, I see post after post after post (etc) about how beds have ruined minecraft, how its made things too easy...how the game is now for pussies..and...honestly.

I just want to know, seriously, how many of you people who claim that, just spent all night outside a house and killed all the tough enemies that were made? Because in all the time I've played, I always just went indoors (or created indoors if not near one) when night came, until I had managed to create a big enough wall and enough light to where I could work outdoors at night. And even then it was just a project I was building on at the time.

Mainly I just see it odd how beds being there has somehow ruined the option to stay out all night long. And its not even about MPS....as you can turn off monsters if an entire server prefers no monsters anyway...

posted a message on Minecraft Feature - Stats n Cheeves, what do you think?
Honestly..while I don't hate them..and won't begrudge Achievements being in the final version of the game. And I actually like the idea of stats (in that 'what have i been doing' sort of way...not 'ha mine are higher'). I think at this point and time, they are a waste of resources to actually enter into the game. Unless this happens to be the best time to put them into the game..or they lead towards something else (such as the Achievement system perhaps being a stepping stone for the tutorial system Notch has mentioned).

Basically the achievements and stats by themself don't add to the gameplay a single bit, they just show information on what you have already done, and thats it. I'd rather see bugfixes, actual new content that needs to be tested, biomes worked on, weather re-implimented, a foundation of basic creatures for modding purposes, the actual MODing API. And so on.

We need those muuuch more than we actually need a system telling us how many blocks we've placed, and if we managed to get a skeleton to kill a creeper o rnot.

posted a message on now that wolves are being added what should mojang add now?
    Hurray for choice -other-.

With that said..what I think needs to happen.

First, we are in Beta..not alpha. Traditionally Beta is a time when the basic features are already added in, and big huge updates of new content is rare. Instead time is spent cleaning up code, fixing issues people have with the game, and generally 'new' content is things they already have the ability to add easily. With that said.

I'd like to see biomes fixed back up, weather working again. Various crash bugs fixes. Gamesave bugs fixed. Minecart glitches (boosters and such) fixed, with actual boosters added in (requiring redstone in an on state to work). Allow the boosters to also slow down minecarts as well.

A big thing is putting in an official minecraft mod API..its been promised for awhile, and it actually existing would be nice.

Along with that, a water mob thats aggressive. A rideable mob you can control. The start of minecrafts magic/enchantment system that Notch said he wanted at one time.

For now I think thats enough..but mainly I want to see things fixed..MOD API added..and base items put in that can be easily cloned/modded into other things.

posted a message on Who Else Feels Mojang is Wasting Time on Achievements?
I need to agree that the achievements are more of a waste of programming in my opinion.

I don't really sit around and just try to get a achievements unless the achievement has some sort of in-game effect. New clothing, experience, just something to see besides 'you got an achievement +1 to achievement point total'.

Now while I don't mind them, and adding them dosn't hurt the game in my opinion. I feel that, unless this is the best time to add them in (along with the stat tracker) or they are just a very quick input into the game system. That this time is better spent adding to the game, working on getting mod support implemented, work on getting biomes working better, work on putting in more weather effects. Anything but putting in these achievements that do nothing to affect the actual longevity of the game, and even from a current players perspective, are better put in at the end of development (to help extend life) not in the middle.

Now if this is a step towards making his idea of a tutorial work, that he's mentioned in the past. Then yeah sure no problem.

But again, achievements alone are just a waste of time. Even while I find the stats neat..its a waste of time.

    posted a message on !BREEDING!SEASON!DANGER!CAMPAIGN!1.4 ~ A Minecraft Machinima
Ugh..only one person has actually given a decent explanation of what Machinema is...wow I feel old to know my first thought isn't to the group...

Anyway, Machinema, as mentioned is a combined word made of Machine and Cinema. The idea is simple, you create animation using a pre-made model/physicals engine. Thats the basic of it, what this really amounts to is this.

People will take video photage of them playing games, they try to make the onscreen characters move in the ways they want them to move, so as to help the final story they are tryin to tell.

A pretty famous example of this is the Red VS Blue series, based on the Halo games. But many have come before this.
