My basic idea is flying TNT, because in case anyone noticed, TNT stops disobeying gravity when lit.
You could also place a timer on it so it can get to the thing on time before exploding (Rockets without a timer/nose cone pressure point thing will have the same time of regular TNT when launched before exploding.)

Well, it was pretty much the same.
But I had wood instead of planks, and it was this whole thing about seeing stars and seeing farther and yea.
But then people raged over the title.
You need to be able to fling cows if you're going to suggest catapults otherwise it's incomplete!
Also, not terribly fond of this idea. Catapults were used primarily as siege devices. What sieges can occur in Minecraft? Why would I want to create 4 wheels for the device either.

A catapult would rang damage depending on what is fired.
Wool:Just pushes them back.
Sand: Pushes them back, potentionally blinding them.
Wood:1/2 heart.
Dirt:1/2 heart.
Gravel:1/2 heart and can blind them for a second.
Planks:1/2 heart, with a 1/3rd chance of a splinter, causing a 1/2 heart of damage.
Pumpkin:1/2 heart, partially blinding their view because its stuck on them.
Bookshelf:1 heart.
Cobblestone:1 heart.
Smoothstone:1 heart.
Iron block:2 hearts.
Brick: 2 1/2 hearts.
Gold block: 3 hearts.
Diamond block: 5 hearts
Obsidian:5 1/2 hearts.
Etc, etc, etc.
And, a catapult:
