no i don't get the point why people want to do this ya i get its there beliefs but its a game why not go around doing whatever you want not limit it by your beliefs

Games are all about restrictions and rules. Hence why godmoding makes games boring, and why health bars, limited ammo, and difficulties exist. Without rules and challenges there is no game. So we're just introducing our own rules and challenges to make it funner. Think of it like a handicap, like an unarmed only playthrough of Skyrim or something.

I am doing basically the same thing, but with Judaism. I might post a pic of the synagogue I built in my village.
I use command blocks to stand for a calendar, so I can tell what day it is, and I don't work, craft, or carry anything on Saturday.

If you post pics I'll throw them in the gallery. Also that calendar idea is interesting, as well as the following of Sabbath if I'm not mistaken. (That's Saturday in Arabic! And Hebrew too I'm guessing.)

    Dear players,
This project has been indefinitely delayed due to lack of player interest. It was a great experience, but without any players it's pointless to attempt a launch. If you one day stumble across this thread, and think this universe is one in which you would like to RP, send me a PM. Who knows, if enough people request it, the team may get back on the horse and reboot this project.
For now, though, see you all in the next one.

Just wow, lol. I'm a Muslim and I don't think it's wrong because it's all fake, but theirs some people who disagree. Just do what you think is right I guess, lol.

You have it all wrong, most people who are not a Muslim ALL misinterpret what we are saying, lol. First of all we CAN eat meat, just not meat that came from an animal that was shot by a weapon or killed in a bad way, and we don't eat pork also because not only are we forbid from eating it, it's also really bad for is so many different ways.

Kind of funny that you seem to be misinterpreting this thread. Once again, I'd like to point out that I don't think it's wrong to not follow the rules of Islam in Minecraft, I'm just doing it for fun.
Also, "most" and "ALL" are kind of contradictory. And as far as I know you can eat an animal shot with a weapon as long as the killing blow is a swift slit of the throat, but I don't hunt much so I'm not sure.

    Quote from Crunkatog

I look at potions as falling into three ethical/moral groups (roughly).

Some potions save your life and act like true medical treatments. Regeneration potion, instant healing potion, weakness potion (as applied to villager zombies to "cure" them of their fearsome disease). You should feel free to use these potions anytime you need them.

Some potions prevent a condition or hazard or improve an existing innate ability. They act like vaccines or vitamins do to prevent disease and enhance normal function. Fire resistance, damage resistance, and strength potion are examples of this type. You should be able to use them prudently but they can be unbalanced and therefore "unnatural" if used excessively. Fire resistance potions making you totally immune to fire for 3 or 8 minutes seems far-fetched, I think if any of these are borderline unfair, it's that one.

Lastly some potions give unnatural enhancements that are meant to give the player an unbalanced advantage over nature. Invisibility, night vision, speed, jumping, and poison/harm potions give the player something they would not ordinarily be able to do under any circumstances, and are heavily used to take advantage of other players or distort the game experience. They should probably not be used in an idealist ethical/moral/doctrinal system. This goes for any religion or sect.

I don't know if it's equally unethical/immoral, in a simulated religious Minecraft experience, to be able to craft a block or item that grants night vision (e.g. infrared goggles) or speed (a car or skateboard or something). I would think having a permanent item that grants the same bonus as a temporary potion, probably would make it more immoral, not less.

This assumes that players walking to their destinations in unadorned, un-enchanted armour is to be the measure of things.

A great dissection of potions, however in the point of view of Islam I'd disagree with that last section. In Islam, advancement is a good thing, and you should always do what you can to gain an edge as long as its not unethical. So basically, do everything you do the best you can. So any technology or potion helping you survive or prosper is good as long as its not at the expense of others. Of course the Amish might disagree, and maybe a few other cultures and religions. But really that would mean you should run around naked hunting with your bear hands, since clothing and weapons and, in fact, any sort of potion, is giving you an advantage over your environment.

    Quote from AliofUSA

Reply to: But of course there is the question: What if I don't have the ability to make a compass at the time? Then of course I just pray any direction, just like in the real world. (Correct me if I'm wrong here.)

Actually, if you do not know where the Ka'aba is, you pray towards the direction in which the sun sets.

Never heard of that before, and in fact it doesn't sound right to me, as it resembles Shirk. Any evidence to support it, such as an ayah or Hadith?
    Quote from blackfire853

From what I know of the Qur'an, I believe tax and intrest is despised by Islam, so how about you cannot use a villager trade more than once as I believe the price can rise over time.

Tax isn't bad, but interest is, so that's a good point. If I remember I'll add it to the OP. :P

Well, to be honest, it's a game. Nothing you do in the game affects you in real life, except if you're psychotic. In the game, it's perfectly okay to eat and kill for pork, brew potions and enchant things, etc. You don't have to "stone" others in-game or pray in-game. As long as you follow the rules in real life and the game doesn't affect you, you're okay.

Once again, that's not the point of this thread.
    Quote from RobertFrans

Indeed, but I can imaging that it is just fun to live in Minecraft like you live in the real world. It can be a real and inspiring challenge to life by the rules of a more strict religion or way of life ingame. Maybe even a religion or way of living you don't follow, so you can maybe conceive a little bit with those who are following it in real life and learn a little bit more about them. It is always good to expand your mind and Minecraft can be a great game to do that on a fun, playful manner.

In Minecraft you are totally free to live in your world like you want to live. So you can also obey rules you also obey in real life, if you want and like that. Nobody is obliged to live there like the most people in the west live their lives.

Now you're getting it. XP And indeed it is.

I'd do it for you, but I'm out of town without my tablet for the weekend. I'll try a different color scheme when I get back, I just thought you wanted the character to be dark in appearance, with the pale skin and jet black hair and robes. If you're ok with brighter or lighter clothing I'll give that a try.

Pretty mediocre, but it seems like that's what you were going for as a character anywho, so I suppose that can't be helped. If you get any inspiration for a different character before the launch I suppose you could "reinvent" your bio, but for now, ACCEPTED, congratulations! Every RP server needs the bland people too! Not everyone can be a magical master assassin wizard king, and I respect your choice to begin with very few skills. Hopefully your bland character will get wrapped up in interesting events during the writing of Airtha's history! I'll get to work on the skin, it shouldn't be too difficult. Welcome to Airtha!

And here's your skin! Let me know if you want any changes, I tried to keep the clothes kind of simple. Also, I originally had the hair shinier, with lighter highlights, but it looked a bit ridiculous so I toned it down a bit. Sorry if it's not shiny enough.

Aelis in all her glory. Her hair is tied up in the back with a metal clip (not visible in this picture). If you'd prefer for it to be down, let me know, but I don't think I'm very good at making long hair on skins, to me it looks weird when bridged between the head and back. But I'll try it that way if you want me to.

    OOC

    IGN: boogsterally

    Age: 13

Roleplay Experience: I have played on a few servers, some of the staff should know.

Why us: Because I have a history with you guys, so I thought I'd rejoin.

Time you can dedicate: Most of my afternoon, except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Explain Roleplay in your own terms: Basically, it's when you act as if you were someone else, a person of your creation or not, you act out what they would do in the situations presented to you.

In your own words define Powergaming and Metagaming and provide an example of each:

Power-Gaming: It is when a character is overpowered, or forces other players to do certain things without being able to react in any way, shape or form.

Example: ~*Ub3R No0b slits Victim's neck from behind, killing him*~ or, ~*Big Burly trained dude smashes sword down towards Ub3R No0b~* ~*Ub3R No0b dodges instantly and gets back up, hitting Big burly trained dude onto the ground~*

Meta-Gaming: It is when you use Out of Character information for Role-Play purposes
Example: *OOC Chat: "Did you hear? Alfred is a Vampire!"* *RP Chat: ~*Ub3R No0b sees Alfred for the first time and yells loudly "Vampire!"~*

Provide an RP example of an Over-Powered character in a battle/fight scenario:

~*Jeff swings his axe towards Fred*~
~*Fred dodges and hits Jeff's leg with his sword*~
*Some OOC babble about Power-Gaming happens around here*
    Fred:((Ok Void that))
~*Fred dodges slightly and gets slightly grazed, then swings his sword towards Jeff*~
    Bla... Bla...
~*Fred gets hit by Jeff's axe directly on the leg, and quickly runs away*~
*More OOC babble, except this time, Fred would get really mad, INJUSTICE! Of course, when he does something unfair to others it's totally fair for him... Humans.*~

    IC

Name: Aelis Noblekind (Derivative of Adelaide, Adal being Noble and Heid being Kind/Sort )

    Race: Saian

    Gender: Female

    Age: 27

Appearance: Aelis has fairly long hair, flowing backwards from her parting point in the middle, it's shiny and jet black with notable strands, it also almost completely covers her ears.
Her iris' are also a darker grey tone, it's also quite reflective so she has a mix of grays and whites, if this is not possible, she can have a lighter factor of blue, but not so "Sky Blue".
Her skin is seemingly paler than that of a normal Saian, but not by much. She has a thin body figure due to her not exactly 'liking' food.
She has a fairly masculine facial structure, so her face is not so round.
Her chin is at the same distance from her neck as the rest of her face, except of course her lips, nose and the top of her forehead, her nose tip is pointed upwards and the nostrils are quite small, the septum is also pretty high, it's also pretty thin.

Personality: Aelis hasn't ever really liked speaking to people, she is timid and will try to walk away from a conversation quite quickly, however, she is open with her friends, probably more than she should be, but that's a hard spot to get to... She is quite fussy with food, very rarely eating bitter/salty/sour things, she is a sweet tooth. She is quite compassionate with friends, loving, smart, caring, modest... Maybe too modest... Hmm...
She's overly serious and boring too.
However! She is untrustworthy, big-headed, finicky, conceited, lazy, jealous (I have no idea why I'm making my character have so many negative traits... Meh.), stubborn, harsh and, well, cowardly.
She also believes in her own little God that she never tells anyone about.
Skills: I will mostly leave this empty, I like starting young characters and getting their skills in Role-Play, so please bare this in mind when reading my backstory. But I guess she's really smart...? Like, good at reading, deduction, etc.

    Backstory:
Aelis was born in a small settlement in Airtha, her mother suffered a cardiac arrest when giving birth, and her father couldn't take the pressure of having a child on his own, so he left her. She was later taken to an orphanage, and grew up there for the most of her life, it was fairly strict, but it did help her, she was taught all the basics of being a Saian. She was never to bright and mostly overly serious and boring so she was mostly ignored by the people and thus, became anti-social. She spent most of her time reading books and learning things through the logic in her brain.
She rarely ate food, and was always ashamed to eat in front of people, she was comfortable eating small sweets and such, though.
Over the years she miraculously had made a friend, his name was Eudon, it was at first a timid friendship but once they started to get to know each-other they were more loose and weren't ashamed to do things to one another, Aelis was always much smarter the Eudon and whenever they got into 'friendly' arguments, Aelis would mostly be right.
The years passed, Aelis grew, still being the same as always, not giving a care to the world outside, getting smarter, until she was around 18 then she had left the orphanage to do 'something' with her life, but she found that the outside world was more boring than herself, she decided to travel around look for some place.
Over the years she had gained some experience in living with herself but nothing major. She had been travelling to the Saian capital of Nasidum trying to find some purpose in her life but just ended up doing the same thing as always, going to a bookstore, occasionally making friends and communicating with someone, her life up until now was normal, un-thrilling and overall boring so here she is hoping she can change that at the age of 27.
I'm terribly sorry if the backstory was uninteresting or not well thought out, I was never that good at writing stories and always just go with a normal person in Role-Play. Thank you either way for reading it, though.
Also, could someone make the skin for me? I found it quite hard after not playing this game much anymore, if possible I'd like her to have a black medieval scholar outfit or anything that fits with the Saian, thanks.
    Maudjan Airtha!

    OOC
    IGN: CabooseA259
    Age: 18
Roleplay Experience: I have quite a wealth of experience. I’ve played of a good few roleplay servers, some popular some not. I also like to play games such as Skyrim with a roleplay approach.
Why us: This server offers more than the simple races. Each race is different and makes your character lean towards a specific lifestyle/profession. I imagine it would be rather fun to take on something that is literally completely different to ourselves.
Time you can dedicate: At present i’m free most days all day. But i’m off to uni in September so i’ll be able to play evenings minimum.
Explain Roleplay in your own terms: Roleplaying is creating a character and a life outside your own. And then living as that character. Acting and talking as they would, as though you are them.
In your own words define Powergaming and Metagaming and provide an example of each: Metagaming is using information gained outside of roleplay that your character wouldn’t otherwise know and using it to your advantage e.g. Seeing somebodies location in global chat and then going to their location to kill them.
Powergaming is making your character ‘too good’ and not giving anybody else a chance making things unfair e.g. you’re locked in a prison and you decide to escape, so in one go you cut the throats of the guards, pick the locks and escape unnoticed.
Provide an RP example of an Over-Powered character in a battle/fight scenario:
Bob: “I will kill you without hesitation boy, you stand no chance” *readies sword*
Tim: “Oh you underestimate me, not today” *With all his strength Tim swings the sword at Bob so hard that Bob is instantly disarmed and falls to his knees*
Tim: “Ha, you never had a chance old man” *Decapitates Bob*

    IC
    Name: Lausjan
    Race: Bidjan
    Gender: Male
    Age: 31
Appearance: Lausjan has light blue/grey skin, bordering more on the blue than the grey. He has a thin strip of light blue hair that goes from top to back. He is completely bald on the sides of his head. As with many of the Garedan he looks rather slim but has a fair bit of upper body strength. His legs are long and slim so he is quite tall, standing around 6 foot.

He has skin that is very smooth to the touch and often looks wet. His face is rather flat like a Garedan’s and he barely has a nose but his face also comes across as quite sharp. However he has the facial hair of a Saian. The same colour as his hair, he has a beard on his chin.

On his back he is covered in tattoo like markings. These are of various religious symbols and words in the Garedan old language, some of which he himself does not know the meaning of. There are the odd few on the front of his body and one on the back of his neck/back on his head. He wears orange monk like robes, these consist of white trousers with an orange front skirt and then a strap like bit of cloth that goes from the belt, up over one shoulder and back down the other side, so part of his body is revealed. If colder he will wear proper robes over these that will cover his whole body. He also wears leather boots and hand wraps.
(Here's my first attempt at a skin. Let me know what you think) http://i.imgur.com/8lFP4uQ.jpg

Personality: Lausjan was a quiet man. He had spent a long period of time in isolation and so he didn’t have much to say. Nevertheless, he was very friendly indeed. He would try help those in need in any way he could as possessions didn’t mean much to him, he was more a man of duty. Those that didn’t know him would say he came across as dull, boring or even insane as he could often go days without talking to anyone. This and the fact he has a rather monotone and deep voice, strangers would not take to him likely. He is also very calm and doesn’t lose his temper easily, but when he does it can be rather fierce indeed. A lot of how he is was shaped by his training and upbringing. The few things he does says, are often very clever remarks or ideas as he has a wealth of knowledge in many different areas. This is through a mix of his innate gift of intellect with him being half Garedan and his love for reading.

Skills: He is exceptionally good in hand to hand combat and using a daibo. However he lacks above average ability in areas with other more common weapons i.e. with a sword. Though not really skills, he is a very intelligent man, often able to outthink people and using this to his advantage in combat. Though he does lack brute strength.

Backstory: His father a Garedan librarian and his mother a jobless Saian, Lausjan was born just outside Gaigrot. They lived at the foot of a hill in a small but pleasant house. They always lived in peace, neither father or mother had enemies, both were respected members of the Garedan community, and Lausjan became so too. He had as he would say a very average childhood. He was not poor nor rich, he was not spoilt nor deprived. He attended school where he learnt the ways of the Garedan in terms of magic and their history just as any other would. And he had surprisingly little trouble in the way of bullying. Of course there was the odd comment here and there but he was generally well liked. Throughout his childhood his father told him stories of men that lived in hiding, learning magic of light and that fight in the name of the Gods. Though these sounded like tales, Lausjan took them surprisingly serious.

When he reached 18, Lausjan had finished all his Garedan teachings and was well on the way to following in his fathers footsteps, until he was told something rather interesting. Lausjan’s father sat him down one day as he felt now was the time to share this with him. Lausjan’s father told him that the stories he was told when he was younger were true, though exaggerated. His father was actually part of a group of monks, that learnt this special school of magic. They weren’t a big organisation, 5 people at maximum. But these people were forbidden marriage and obviously, Lausjan’s father was married. Because of this, he had to leave this order and a deal had to be made. If he were to have a child, this child would have to join the order when he came of age and take his fathers place. Lausjan was now of age and was sworn to this group. Though his father seemed apologetic, Lausjan was happy. He spent his childhood wishing he could be like these tales he was told, and it was finally going to come true. His father told him where to go and where he would meet these people and so Lausjan, oddly without sadness, left his parents to partake in this adventure.

These men lived in a hillside, hidden from the rest of the communities. The leader or grand master of the order was also a Bidjan called “To Teach”. It seemed though there was only one man in this order and it was the grandmaster, the others were nowhere to be seen. But it was here Lausjan’s training would begin. The training was not what Lausjan expected. The monks would be isolated for 10 whole years, kept from the outside world. Here they would learn how to fight using only their minds and their fists, as well as a daibo, a long wooden combat staff. They would master this art of combat, they say in relies on their intelligence and their wits, rather than brute strength, which they felt was the key to sword fighting. Here he would also start his training of Crescendo. A type of magic used to help and aid those around them. While a skilled combat group, they were also a religious group, and fought in the name of their Gods and against their enemies. Lausjan was taught to avoid combat, unless it would be the only resort. Though he was becoming everything he wanted to, this training took its toll. he was isolated from people and the outside for 10 whole years. He was forced to forget almost everything he knew, including his family. “To Teach” was like his new father.

After 10 years of studying and training, Lausjan’s was ready to leave. He had been taught everything he could be taught, it was now down to him to complete his mastery of the Crescendo magic. He would have contact with his master but was free to bring justice for his God. From here he headed back to Gaigrot and stayed there for a few weeks to get his bearings and introduce himself to reality again. From here, he could go anywhere.

Your descriptions of your character's appearance and personality are detailed and are thoroughly explained by your backstory and the race of your character. The skin is also pretty well made, and matches your description. Also, I love how you worked Crescendo and the typical Bidjan profession in to your backstory, to explain how you learned that school of magic, and why. Congratulations, you're the fourth ACCEPTED hybrid, and the first Bidjan! Welcome to Airtha!

So, just a question. I'm not whitelisted yet, which I thought was kind of strange, given that I've been accepted and all, but then I realized that the server (since its still in closed beta) might not even be open to the public yet. So my question is, are people already allowed to get on? And if it is, I'm guessing that I just haven't been whitelisted yet. Either way, thanks!

Sorry, but the beta is not open yet. It should be up within a week if I've heard correctly, so we'll see you then! The reason for the delay is to finish up some work, and to hopefully have more players amassed, since RP is all about the RPers.
