I was prepared (and perfectly willing) to have a long wait for 1.4 stuff but it sure doesn't look like it is going to take weeks after all.
I haven't even made blasting oil yet in my single player game, so I've got plenty to do for however long it takes. Plus there's always the dilemma of making a new world or not for a major new version. I love starting out fresh so much and what BTW adds to that is making the 'starting out' stages of the game last so much longer.
Yeah, I've run into it as well. If anyone sees info confirming it's a vanilla bug, I'd be much obliged for my own peace of mind.
EDIT: NM, just checked it out. It's a mod bug that's causing nether wart to grow at 1/10th it's normal rate. Will be fixed for next release.
Hah, I thought it was intentional and part of the "stay in the nether and do more stuff" aspect of the mod. I spent time replacing netherrack with stone to make happy safe place to build in. Eventually I got plenty of warts and also a bunch of stone tunnels to portals.
Been playing 1.4 today to try out the new stuff. Took me less than 10 mins to get a potato and carrot. Then 5 mins to have a whole field of each in my wheat farm area. So that's done.
Really makes me appreciate the hardcore stuff in BTW, adding challenge while Mojang is busy taking away challenges. I'm hoping that the wither boss's challenge is more than just the rarity of skull drops.
Posting this here since registering on the btw forums is disabled.
I'm having tons of trouble trying to get mcpatcher to work with this. Followed the instructions to the tee and keep getting a black screen on start up. Tried downloading new files, clean minecraft, making sure nothing in mods folder, and everything I could think of but absolutely no luck. Using the same files I can install it manually and everything works fine but I can't use my texture packs. One thing I have noticed is that when I hit patch is shows around 11 conflicts instead of the 1 I see in screenshots and the tutorial video. Am I just completely missing something here?
In MCpatcher
Modloader.
BTWMod (make sure when you add it you select the MINECRAFT-JAR folder)
HD Textures
HD Font.
I turn all the rest off. Make sure you use that order as well.
Make sure your mods folder doesn't have anything in it except the 1.3.2 folder, which is where you put the BTWmod and Modloader zips
Please please don't mess with world gen. I love having the option of taking vanilla worlds and going BTW with them later on.

A question or two for FC. When they updated to 1.3.2 was it a massive amount of recoding for you to put your stuff back in, and was it one of those "aww I have to do this again?" situations or was it not too bad? How painful does 1.4 look to you codewise and featurewise. (Witches? wtf.)
I ask from the perspective of having spent a year coding stuff only to have the money people decide it needed to be rewritten in another language, costing me another 6 months of my life for no benefit to anyone. In the end what we produced was slower, and had fewer features. They decided to rewrite again. A couple months into that I found a new contract, they were already dropping features. It was a pretty soul-destrying place to work, gotta love big companies. Obviously you're not doing this as your source of income so the perspective is a little different.
I think that related to something someone said on the previous page...
Or maybe I just connected way too many dots like I sometimes do... It's an engineer thing
Its just that I see vanilla worldgen as perfectly fine and some mods completely alter the way its supposed to be...
One of the things that I really like about BTW is that it doesn't change the worldgen.
Isn't a more reliable (and less costly) way to farm gunpowder just building an overworld mob-trap?
Not that I am suggesting you do so mind you, at least not just for gunpowder. I'll be completely reworking how explosives function in MC in the near future.
Not very effective in SMP due to the ever dwindling spawns. (A vanilla issue as well, not a BTW thing.) Every time they update I keep hoping that that issue will be fixed. I've always assumed it's an issue with how SMP handles mob despawning, it doesn't seem to occur as much in single. Possibly observer error because restarting the server clears it, and restarting is easier in single. Presumably why so many servers have auto restart scripts running. (Ours doesn't; we wait till the block lag gets bad and then PM god begging for a restart.)
Changes to explosives? Something else to fear and look forward to.
Yeah, I've got it on my todo list to change that. The pumpkin thing always struck me as rather silly and without in-game justification. I'll be moving that functionality over to the Ender Spectacles. Actually, I think I'll do that right now as it'll be a nice 5 minute job to do with my morning coffee
EDIT: Done.
!!!
I hated the pumpkin, it never made any sense. Thanks!
Pumpkin hat maybe? Or did that get removed with the Enderman changes... I didn't think to test it out.
I despise wearing a pumpkin on my head.
My main concern was an accidental hit on one ender would be very bad now, in the past it just meant killing that one and going back to business. Now an accidental glance or hit and bad things happen.
We upped our server to 4.21 where we have an exisiting ender grinder. Tested it out and it's hilarious. I'm going to have to redesign it. I already had some ideas for a new design anyway that use the BTW stuff more.
My buddy aggroed the enders near the drop and it has been a steady deathfest since then. He just wanted to work on his park near the drop point.
I love it, The End is damn scary now. No clue yet how I'm going to kill the dragon on singleplayer when I get to that point.

The hidden nametags is nice, even on our cooperative world.
We're loving the recent patches, can't wait for the villager changes.
Yeah, I largely agree with you here. Balancing food sources is just not in any way a priority for me given their incredible abundance in MC, and I've focused more on making chickens valuable with regards to their feathers through changes like the Rotted Arrows.
You'll notice that most of the balancing work I've done with regards to animals has very little to do with food, and has been more along the lines of: cows are for leather, pigs are for Tallow, and chickens are for feathers.
I still need to take care of sheep mind you, as at present their role is almost entirely decorative through wool. A big problem their IMO is spider silk to wool, which is already slated for my chopping block in the near future. Ultimately, it makes sheep entirely redundant late game, and doesn't make a whole lot of intuitive sense to begin with.
Separating the two would allow me to design much clearer uses for both spiders and sheep into the tech tree.
I gotta say I love the hardcore sheep. Getting all the colours was an awesome project, and I pretty never use wool for anything. I've started it again on my single player world, just because it's a fun aspect of the game now. I still have no plans to ever do anythign with wool. (Until you add something that is. )
If I wanted to be a **** about this I'd say that flowerchild stole the idea from them.
[sarcasm]Because clearly harnessing the power of the wind is something no one would ever think of.[/sarcasm]
Haha.
I IC2 I used them because they're a good starting point for power but it was always, "WTF, a little fan thing? Lame."
FC does it right. A windmill. A huge bladed windmill made from wood and cloth, not an iron box with a little fan in it. Though of course IC2 makes no attempt to fit into the style of the game, it's (IMO) intended to be cool stuff. One of the reasons I consider BTW the best mod ever is because the stuff it brings to the game fit into two categories, "Yep, that fits right into the style." and "That's how the game should have been all along." Mewchanical power goes perfectly with swords and alchemy for example, the concept works.
Not really knocking IC2 (we had a tekkit server going for a while and I had much fun gaming all the inconsistencies) but I enjoy BTW a whole lot more, especially now that it's SMP. The BTW stuff has replaced our Tekkit server and personally I've gotten waaaaay more good playtime out of it already than I did with two versions of Tekkit (even after we nerfed EE.)
I'll admit we're weak though, we have hardcore buckets turned off. *shameface*

Raining 50% of the time on every server is annoying.

You're going to need some sort of hat. Perhaps something made from wolf would be appropriate.

Modloader first, BTW second. HD fonts and textures after that. I uncheck all the rest.
You'll get a message about conflicts, the default (for BTW to overwrite) is what you want.
