    ....****ing hell. Pardon my language.

Most of those pieces are just mindblowingly epic. Some of the precision work and large scale constructions make me very envious of the talent and foresight put into them, I'm thinking specificly of "The Library of Mystery".

What really impresses me, is that some of the houses are pretty mediocre(thinking of the underground mining city here), but the surroundings just make them look right at home. I'm not dissing at all, I'm amazed at how well it all just blends in together and the you and your guys' aesthetic assessments.

The final thing that really impresses me, is that you're using the standard texture pack. I have never, ever, seen anyone do so awesome things and make them look so good, with standard textures...

...I should really team up with people instead of running around alone on my server doing my projects.

If I might be so bold, could I ask you to look at my thread(signature link) and give a comment on it? It would mean a lot to me to hear what you think of my later work(last post is the latest update).

    Edit:
To see more work, please check later posts in this thread, it has a new project that I'd like to hear some opinions and criticism on.

Some disclaimers... Because this is afterall teh intarwebs.

    1. All screenshots are linked off-site on photobucket. Just ctrl-click them and tab through to view stuff. They were originally 1080p, but pb decided to downscale them apparently.
    2. This is just a bunch of random stuff I've done on my localhosted server since 1.4 or 1.5. Some of it is alright, some of it might seem like a waste of your time. You have been warned.
    3. Most of it is "legit", but at one point I went "Oh f.. screw this". I was sick of mining thousands of cobblestone, sand and whatnot and just decided to make the server a creative spot for me and a friend, using server commands.
    4. Almost all of it is my own imagination and improv, but there are a few heavily inspired pieces of works as well as a complete ripoff. I'll comment them on the SS'.

    City Wall
This is legit. The wall extends a bit further to the left and half again as long a wall is around the corner. A fifth of it is mined cobblestone, the rest is made from a dirt scaffolding and having lava pour down, then doused in water to form walls. It was a silly project, it doesn't look pretty as such, but it looks impressive when you walk towards it from the ground and it was a interesting project, if a bit tedious. The iron blocks on the cannon are legit as well.

    Inside Wall
The inside of the wall where I mounted a proper 3D snow-skull on it. Creative mode.

    Skull Castle above Cinderville
The first real project on the server. I had a dirt totem directly opposite the skull that I climbed up through a column of water I don't know how many times to see how it looked from a bit away. It's not exactly top notch :biggrin.gif: But for my first legit project in Minecraft ever, I think I did alright. It was originally in cobblestone(as I didn't know how to cook stone at the time) and has recently been replaced with standard stone. The lava flowing out cost many, many lives...

    Railroad Center
Before flying, but after powered rails came out. This is how we got around between areas. Best system ever, it's been extremely useful getting materials from one end of the areas to the others.

    Pirate Ship
With sails unfurled of course. 'cause that's how pirates roll, yo. This is partly why I have so many skulls everywhere, it was supposed to be somewhat a cove.. anyway this was my second and third major projects. The second being the ship, which is also legit, including the many, many, many hours spent on hunting sheep and squids.
The water was the third, having no idea how to spread water and how to smooth it out, then later on hollowing out the bottom again.

    Buildings
The centered building is shamelessly stolen from the mod that was on the front page a few days ago(Where you become a king and build a city etc). I loved the houses, so I had to build one to see what the idea was. The huge one to the left is my manor, built in the same style with my own ideas here and there. Both of them are made in Creative mode. This is an old seed, there is no way in hell I would ever be able to get so much clay for brick.

    Mansion Facade
The front of the Mansion, from the ground level.

    Mansion - Ground Floor
Spiral staircase to the right. To the left in the hearth with all the furnaces, there's a lever that pulls out the floor and reveals a staircase, as well as elevating a stair block at the same time. Redstone is cleverly hidden in the chimney outside, which is oddly large, but it fits well. The timing was excruciating to get right.

    Mansion - Loft
The loft of the mansion. There's a second floor as well, but it's not decorated very well at the moment, so I skipped SS'ing it.

    Huge Airship
I'd built one airship earlier, which is posted further below, and wanted to do a proper steampunk ship.
It's still WIP, since I ran out of energy after making this. This was before creative mode, with resources given via server commands. It's the front of the ship, by the way. I'm not sure what the cylinder is supposed to be, but it was meant to be either an airintake or cannon. Both would be silly, but I thought it'd look cool. No fly-mods were used even though I'd searched franticly for one, to make this. I died many, many times, falling to my death.

    Airship, sideview
Sideview of the airship. One day I'll kit it out with a bridge, some decorations and do interior, but for now it's dead to me. In the fore and background further work on the wall can be seen, which I finally decided to continue now that creative mode is out.

    Dwarf Temple
After the stone bricks came out I had to make something dwarfy with it. It's Moradin's Hammer and a temple dedicated to it. The handle extends beneath the ground into a dwarven townsquare. Creative Mode, all of it.

    Dwarven Temple - Below ground
Straight ahead is the church dedicated to the hammer.

    The other Dwarven Temple
The inside of the underground inn.

    Brewery
Part of the brewery. Beneath the boiler, there is netherrack on fire.

    Pyramid - Sequential Art style
Moving on.. Sequential Art is a webcomic that did a small storyline on Minecraft, where the lead character makes a humongous badass pyramid. I started to copy it as best I could, but underway I just did the rest as I saw fit. The top pyramid extends downwards inside like a diamond, below the ice its placed on.
If there was ever any doubt in your mind; It's made in Creative Mode. The tip reaches the skyline limit. The reason it's on ice, is because there was nowhere else to make it... :biggrin.gif:

    Partial Ball
Used plotz to help me. Anyone who's made one of these know how much work there is to make it. Before I had any idea how to make it, I just plopped circles on top of eachother, making a cone. Was awkward that I didn't predict what it'd look like... Bringing us to...

    Ball - Inside
I kept the cone on the inside using the same diameter outside for the ball. The water leads down to a TNT tunnel, which extends thousands of blocks to the sides; back when I figured out how to spawn TNT and wreak havoc on the ground below.

    Gate Castle
I was never satisfied with making Skull Castle, so me and a friend spent 4 hours flattening a nearby mountain to make a better one. Completely Legit by the way. This is the formal entrance with a minecart track leading up to it from Cinderville.

Gatekeep Castle - Entrance from above
The cannon on the lower right is not legit, the rest of it is. When I made this, I was completely hooked on Minecraft and took a few days off from work to indulge my build-lust. The "rocket" to the left was supposed to be an airship blimp. It ended up like that because I had no idea how to make things look round. The wool is legit and is part leftover from the pirateship. When I built half of it, I decided to hunt the rest, since I had a hunting route laid out and three seasons left of Boston Legal to watch on the side.. :biggrin.gif:

Bottom View of Gatekeep Castle and Airship
The "African Swallow" from the side. Many more deaths followed making the airship. If only I knew that I could hold on to ledges by crouching... The levels below the castle are residential areas, mostly for commoners and servants.

Gatekeep Castle - Top view of the inside
There's a small town inside with an Inn, a general store, a soothsayers tent, a smithy and other stuff as well as a park. The wooden area was a marketplace for foodstuff, but the chests below the wooden slates began spazzing out after they remade animated chests, so I'll probably remove it and make something else instead.

If you've watched it all so far, thank you very much for staying with me. I hope my trip down memory lane was enjoyable and my countless deaths falling off ledges have been amusing to read about :smile.gif: Making this thread was at least pretty fun for me; to remember all the fun I've had so far making most of these things. I've made a few more legit things here and there, occasionally going exploring, but since its an old server there's not much to see, so I mostly just do that on singleplayer worlds now.

Comments, critisism, a "hello" or otherwise all appreciated. Please let me know if the links suddenly don't work. I've checked them all, but I've had a bit of trouble with photobucket before.

posted a message on Medieval Castle
Sudden memories of filling in thousands of cobblestones just assaulted my brain.

It definately looks more like an outer wall than a castle, to begin with but it's a good start! :smile.gif:

Some tips, if you want them:

    What's in a castle/courtyard:
Barracks, armory, stables, church or a wizards abode/home/tower, throne room, bedrooms, kitchen, archery range, smithy, small park, dungeon, torture room, gallery, swimming pool/baths(in roman citadels anyway), crypts/tombs, gallows and library. There are more things but you could make any and all of those if you wish.

Cobblestone works best when mixed with other materials, such as stonebrick or stone(smooth).
Add edges to your wall, so that turrets are wider than the wall itself(Doing this in stonebrick would look better)
    Example:

Note how the turrets(the edges where archers position themselves to shoot) sticks out over the towers wall edges.

Add towers midway, to break the flat monotomy of the wall.
You could also make a pattern with supports or something else, that breaks the flat look.

This doesn't look all that pretty, it's just to give you an idea of what I mean.

Regarding the lava mote, you should consider lowering it by two or three blocks and adding a stone or stonebrick edge on both sides of the lava.

Regarding towers, if you want to make them round, you can use this link:
    http://www.plotz.co.uk/plotz.php
For example, if you set in a diameter of 11, you go down to the middle layer(6) of the ball and then you have your pattern for making a round tower. If you want a wider turret on top of it, just increase the diameter in plotz.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/751959-my-work-medievalpiratey-stuff/ <- follow link and go to post #17 to see an example of my ugly huge wall and the small changes I made to it, which in my opinion made a pretty big difference.
I haven't followed all of my own advice, that's because it's some of the first stuff I made, so I'll go and change it some more one day.
Do yourself a favor and DON'T make a wall as big as I did, it's a massive pain in the ass to make and it's not worth it to look at. It was more of a joke project than anything else.

I hope some of the tips are of use to you mate and good look with your project!

Thanks for an excellent texture pack, I absolutely love it and it suits my world fantasticly.

There seems to be some extremely dark grass introduced lately, and your pack makes it look black/gray instead of really dark green like the original textures. Don't know if this is intentional or a bug, but it looks absolutely horrible :smile.gif:

    Example below:

    Edit:
Just found out that it might be a swamp biome that's suddenly been placed in the middle of some of my work. In any case, I hope the intention isn't to make swamps black?

Well I'm not exactly convinced it's legit either, but I do admire the work put in here and there :smile.gif: I'd start working on making everything looking prettier.

    @dantose
Just look at the Mines of Moria thread, if that thing is legit, then I have no problem believing this is.
The diamonds are not that hard to get, by the way. On my server, it is, since it's an old seed, but lately when I've made new seeds, there are diamonds EVERYWHERE. It stands to reason that some seeds just have more diamonds.

And fyi, even on my old seed, I've found hundreds of diamonds. They've been far in between, but it's doable.

Either way it doesn't matter. He's not about to admit that it's not legit and you have no business uncovering any fraud. Let people come to their own conclusions :smile.gif:

posted a message on My work - Medieval/Piratey stuff.
    Update:

Added a row of houses. I sort of wanted to imitate the Bowerstone houserows from Fable 3, so this is what I came up with

They all have doorbells, so when you walk over the pressure plate, it does a "ding-dong". The noteblocks are below the floor, hidden away. Only problem is that it can be a bit difficult telling which house is ding'ing :smile.gif:
I really love using the ironbars as fences. I'll surround the minitrees with them too I think.

From the top. It's beginning to look a little bit cramped, which is exactly the look I'm going for, with narrow alleys and buildings close to the walkways. Obviously not behind the houses, yet, but I'll keep adding buildings and other stuff as I make this.

Hopefully, it'll look like a heavily populated city when I'm done.
