No, there is also Mossy Stone Brick, I should know, I've been building things with it all week.

Oh well! Won't stop them from selling it as part of a DLC =P

    You have been warned!

Mossy Stone Brick is already in the game.

There's a mossy stone brick in the game? I thought the mossy cobble from dungeons was the only "moss covered" block in the game atm.

    Don't worry!

There will be a "Dungeon Crawl" DLC available shortly after release that will add TWO entirely new block types!!! Spikes and Moss Covered Stone Brick.

It can be yours for the low low low price of $2.99

Awesome post OP. I agree completely.

To me it seems like they just program whatever they happen to be thinking is cool at the moment, regardless of how it fits into the "bigger picture". To be honest I'm not sure they even have a clue what the "bigger picture" for their game is.

I think that the original earlier Minecraft felt better because you could probably tell that you're alone, and all you can do is survive. NPC Villages pissed me off, but most other updates are fun. Shroom Biomes are BS, and Snow Golems aren't much. Really, I would prefer for being able to turn off certain biomes, because that would improve MC a lot.

I think toggling different biomes at world generation would be an awesome feature.

Taken a bit further, allowing the user to specify how many of particular biomes to generate could lead to some truly unique worlds.

Think about a massive desert world with a single ocean and no rivers. Or maybe an ocean world with only a few islands in the vein of the movie "Waterworld". Could really add a lot to the game in my opinion.

    EDIT:
Now that I think about it, Mojang seems to be telling the players what is fun instead of simply providing the tools for the user to create his own fun.

Let's agree to disagree and stop with the off-topic stuff. It adds nothing to the discussion, and you yourself said that non-useful discussion has no place in a constructive forum.

Also, I completely fail to see how your post about the OPs punctuation added anything constructive to the discussion. Maybe you should follow your own advice.

obviously you're just one of those people who likes to start fights or something. Nobody would(should) see the thread title in the forums and think 'this sounds like a normal level headed individual I should see his opinion' a title that says NOTHING of the topic discussed does not make for a constructive forum.
I was making no statement on content but the very title of the thread, perhaps I wasn't clear there.
As an aside I also provided the reasons for what was in the op, he was complaining about new things, most people like these new things.
That's really all that needs to be said I think.

No, I'm not trying to start a fight.

I am, however, trying to share with the community your foolishness and counter your baseless claims against the OP.

The topic alone with it's lack of punctuation, structure or any ability to inform viewers of what it will be about makes you out to be a troll.

And I think the question asked was what was Notch thinking, obviously it was: this will be fun.
It's evident that most people agree, 'nuff said?

I didn't have any problems whatsoever discerning what the OP was getting at. On top of that, his punctuation, grammar and spelling are leaps and bounds above the average minecraft forum posters....

    [BeginEdit]
You said, "@op I'm saying that most people disagree, if you post any polls up you'll see most people don't mind one bit, it's just the ragers and whiners that are most likely to post words in threads so don't feel like there's many people who agree even if some do post, most don't, most find no reason to -not- add the mushrooms, the npcs are gaining a bit of a following, and most people love the snow golem. lol it may not appeal to you but most people think it's just fine. "

That's quite the long sentence there buddy. Are you sure that is grammatically correct?
    [EndEdit]
Not real sure why you're calling him out on those other than to try and discredit him to those who haven't bothered to read the OP.

On topic, I couldn't agree more with the OP.

Ever since the 1.8 update my computers fans all go berserk when running minecraft.

The kind of berserk they'd go when playing a modern MMORPG on max video settings with 20-40 players on screen at the same time.

Doesn't seem right to me. Wasn't like this at all prior to the leaked 1.8 pre-release of the beta test version of the beta.

I'm pretty sure that right there indicates that they do plan on changing them in the future, just not RIGHT NOW, ergo PLACE HOLDERS.

Or it could mean that at this point in time they have no intentions of changing them, ever.

This is one of the problems with the relaxed and unaccountable communication methods Mojang uses.

Yeah, they'll give quests or something, so that's kind of a plus. They're working on it.

who cares, they add nothing and subtract nothing from your gaming experience, + the ability to turn off villages and i presume NPC's is also there.

Way to post off-topic garbage and claim your post is so epic that it warrants the end of the thread. I *really* dislike people like you.

On topic: I think the NPCs are ugly as sin =P

Does anyone have a link to an official source stating what the NPCs purpose is or what they'll be used for? I'm increasingly worried they'll just mill about their puny villages mindlessly and without purpose. Everyone talks about how they'll offer fetch quests and stuff, but is there any proof of that?

posted a message on My Thoughts on the New Nether
Read it all (The OP). I mostly agree with what you're trying to get at, assuming I understand you correctly.

Seems that your main point is that Mojang tends to add things to the game in a poorly thought out fashion, and I think that is a fairly accurate statement. I think though, that your examples aren't quite the best. Slimeballs definitely have a purpose in the construction of sticky pistons (which are hugely versatile and useful).

Enderpearls on the other hand kind of just seem like something they thought sounded cool so they added them in, which supports your argument. Who knows what the future will bring though, but as it stands, yes, definitely useless.

I think it's just a symptom of a greater issue though, which would be Mojangs lack of an ability to truly focus on a particular aspect of the game and fine tune it to the point that they think it should be.

Take, for example, the "Adventure Update". We still don't have any clue what Mojangs idea of "adventure" is.

-They added new lighting and new biome code, which to me don't seem to have anything at all to do with adventure.
-They added hunger, which seems to have more to do with farming and pre-adventure preparation than adventure itself.
-Creative mode? What has that got to do with adventure?
-Empty and rewardless mineshafts and strongholds don't really seem to encourage adventure so much as they encourage building projects.
-The XP/Combat "upgrades" are about the only things that seem to involve adventure to me in the entire update.

What's my point? Mojang lacks focus and I agree pretty much entirely with the OP.

posted a message on 1.9 was released too soon.
    Quote from FailedToOpen

I feel like 1.9 was released way too soon. It just puzzles me at how mojang continues to introduce shallow features to the game. World generation is still broken, XP and villagers still do nothing, and many problems from 1.8 are yet to be addressed.

    World Generation:
Abandoned mined and villages still spawn incorrectly. They do not actually take into account the terrain they're spawning on. Abandoned mines float in mid air and villages spawn incorrectly. The pathways spawn at random and the houses spawn up and down and never actually look or flow well. The pathways block doors or sometimes go above houses and sometimes houses spawn on a larger hill than the others. Ravines and abandoned mines are too frequent and there are no jungles.

    XP and Villagers:
XP still does nothing and is gained from jumping. As we saw before the pre-release has almost all the features of the full release so I am afraid that 1.9 will still have no function for the XP. Villagers have the AI of animals are probably will never do anything more than walk around? Why because even millenaire has problems with ai and pathing. It has taken him months to find a balance between function and performance. At earlier stages his AI wasn't optimized well enough and ate up so much CPU that many PC's couldn't run it. Even today there is a noticeable lag and with persistent animals it will only be worse. I just feel like their only function will be to just be and not to do anything of interest.

    Problems with 1.8:
Endermen are boring and are considered to be annoying rather than cool. Little use for enderpearls or rottenflesh and many have yet to see a stronghold.

    My point is this.
1: I believe that 1.9 will follow the same pattern as before. People will say "It's just a pre-release" then when it comes out it will look the same as it did before. With functions that are still broken or have no use.

2: I wish mojang would focus on one core concept and make that as deep as possible. As it is many items, mobs, etc, in minecraft has little use. They were cool for a bit but are now broken. They have no depth or hidden function. Mojang continues to add new, shallow features, instead of really working on making existing features more complex or interesting. How long were endermen cool? How long were villages neat to look at? How long was it before you realized abandoned mines are boring and are just like caves?

Finish the elements of 1.8 before releasing 1.9. Because 1.9 is the nether update and has new nether features (which are very shallow as well) and very little additions to 1.8 features. Villagers will never be more than animals with a human skin, that is my prediction and as long as mojang continues this trend of A.D.D. like updates I'll continue to loose interest in minecraft.

    Side note:
People are experiencing even more lag with 1.9 which is said because I know many couldn't even play 1.8 because the FPS drop was so significant.

Well said and I agree with you.

Pay no mind to the people saying things like, "It's a pre-release nub, your opinions are invalid". These are your opinions and you are as entitled to them as the people who disagree with you are entitled to theirs.

Another word of advice: Don't get trapped into off-topic discussions (And trust me, this is exactly what your detractors will try and do) else your thread will be closed for being too "off-topic" (I say this from experience =P).
