Tell us about yourself, why we should add you, and where are you from?: So, I'm a "young 20-something" living on the west coast. I have a full-time job, so I may not be as active as some of the younger players are able to be, but if I really like a server I'm generally able to make time for it in the evenings and on the weekends. I am mostly a hermit in real life and don't get out much, but I do have some hobbies/interests that I keep up with. Gaming is mainly what I do for fun, but I'm also trying to learn Spanish and learning more about web development. I also have a cactus collection that I have to tend to, but they don't need much... just a little bit of water here and there. :P Finally, if you're wondering about my username, it's because sometimes I volunteer with wildlife rescue - I volunteer with the skunks there, and they're all so cute! So, as you can see, I'm a little "all over the place", but I like to think I'm friendly and good-spirited, and that I'd make a good addition to the server!

Why do you play minecraft? Whats your favorite part? What are you good at?: Well, for one, I play nicely with others, hehe. And that's not meant to be the cliche "I don't grief" answer :P I just mean I'm respectful of others, and I can be fun (or so I like to think - I'm biased though! hehe). Also, when I enjoy playing on a server, I'm loyal and will be on daily. Sure, I'm older, so I may not play as long as some other players do, but I'll keep going back. As far as playing the game goes, it's not usually a competitive game, you know? I try to have fun and not worry about being the best builder or mining the most diamonds. Everyone plays a little differently, and there's so much to do in-game, and that's a big part of why this game is so much fun.

Do you agree with all the rules above and what you think about them?: Yes, they sound like a pretty good set of rules!

Why do you want to join specifically this server?: I really enjoy playing on vanilla servers and am not a big fan of game-changing plugins. It also seems like you guys have a very mature, friendly community and that there are a lot of other adults who play on this server, so I think I'd be able to fit in well.

How did you hear about the server: I found the thread here on MinecraftForum a few days ago and was watching to see how the launch would go, and now I really wanna join!! I also remember you from Project Vanilla... but I was very busy at the time in my life and wasn't able to play Minecraft much, so I don't expect you to remember me :P

What got you interested in the server: Well, I really like vanilla servers as opposed to servers that are heavily modded with plugins. But there are a lot of vanilla servers today... What really draws me to Gone to Mine is that it seems like you all have a very friendly, active community so far, and I know that the staff is experienced in running Minecraft servers. Both of those things - good community and experienced staff - are what a lot of other vanilla servers are lacking! Look, I can't promise that the server will be a good fit for me (since I haven't been on it), but I'm really interested in checking it out and playing with you guys.

Questions or comments about the server: So, how was the dragon fight? :)

    -------------------------------------------------------

Solo/Group: Solo, mostly. I like group events and talking to others, but mostly seem to build by myself.

PvP/Non-PvP: Well, when it's a PvP server, I love PvP. Haven't been on one of those in a long time though.

    Leader/Follower: Follower :P

Giver/Taker: Oh, come on, who's going to write taker on this? Haha. I think I'm a little of both... I accept help when it's offered and when I need it, but I'm also more than happy to give my help to others. All depends on what's happening in the game.

Strengths in Minecraft: Well, for one, I play nicely with others, hehe. And that's not meant to be the cliche "I don't grief" answer :P I just mean I'm respectful of others, and I can be fun (or so I like to think - I'm biased though! hehe). Everyone plays a little differently, and there's so much to do in-game, and that's a big part of why this game is so much fun.

How often will you play on the server?: If I like it, I could see myself being on daily. Some days, I may be too busy, but generally I have enough time in a day to do some gaming. Usually for an hour or two, more on the weekends.

Tell me a little about yourself: Well, I'm a bit older than most Minecraft players (not too old though!). I build websites for a living, so that's pretty cool. And sometimes I volunteer with animals (specifically, skunks!) in my spare time - they're so cute :D In my spare time, I'm trying to learn Spanish, learning more about web stuff, gaming, and tending to my cactus collection. I can be a bit wacky, hence the cactus collection I just referenced.

Twitch or Youtube Channel?: Neither, sorry. Well, I have a YouTube, but it's not Minecraft-related and not really cool... just a few liked videos here and there. :P

Have you read and accepted the rules?: Yes! Banana!

Any more info I need to know?: I don't use Skype very much, but I'm willing to get in to the habit for a cool Minecraft server. Here's the thing though... it's often not easy for me to voice chat on Skype, because it can get pretty noisy around here while I'm home. If it's absolutely necessary, I can make time for it once in a while. But I would prefer to just IM. If I need to voice chat every day, then I don't know if that will work out, and you should probably deny my application.

Tell me a joke :D : Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side *slow clap* Hey, don't be mad, I never claimed I was funny ^_^ ~

Skype (mandatory): To be honest, I don't have a skype. If I'm accepted though, I'll create an account and let you guys know.
    Country/Timezone: United States, Pacific
Whats your greatest achievement in minecraft and life: Personally, I don't look at Minecraft as an achievement-oriented game, really. Maybe goal-oriented, but not a game where I'd boast of my achievements. I just try to have fun with the game. So, that said, there's a few things I've really enjoyed doing since I started playing Minecraft. I ran a server/realm for a little while and had a ton of fun with some other people who enjoyed vanilla survival. I also used to play on a PVP server, where everyone had to make hidden bases (usually underground) so no one would raid your stuff. I ended up getting raided, so I guess you could look at it like it was a failure, but I ended up packing my stuff up and starting over with a new base - and I had a lot of fun with it!
What is your experience with minecraft: I've been playing on and off since July 2011. I have to admit, I don't have a lot of experience with 1.8, but I think I know quite a bit about the game before that and I'm excited to be getting back into Minecraft again.
What made you apply to the server: I like small vanilla survival servers a lot, so when I read the description, it sounded like a server I'd really enjoy playing on. As far as I know, I've never met any of you :) so I can't really assess the community right now. But I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone if I'm accepted!
How often will you play: I'll try to be on at least once a day, usually in the evenings here because I work during the day. Some days, I might be too busy, but that won't become a habit. Weekends, I can be on at more times.
Why should we accept you: Well, I can see that you're not accepting every single person who replies in this thread, so it sounds like you guys have a system figured out, haha. I'm not sure what more I can add other than the above and the below. I would like to join, and I think I'm a fun, contributive player, but if anyone has their doubts, that's okay and I won't sweat it.
What can you contribute to the server: I'll probably make a nice little house, and maybe a few farms, and maybe I'll help some other people with their builds, and ultimately I'd just like to be a part of the community.
What do you plan to do: Well, I'll definitely want to find a place for myself, but a lot of that depends on what I encounter on my initial exploration. So, I can't really say! I will certainly do builds on my own, but I would also like to help others out. I'm also big on transportation in Minecraft and would love to build a railway or a system of roads if there aren't already those.
What is your favorite part of minecraft: Exploration and manipulating your environment.
    Picture of builds (optional): http://imgur.com/a/RtsHQ
Extra info (any thing you forgot to say): You know what my favorite Pokemon is? Piplup! (Well, not really, actually... :P)
Youtube (optional): Sorry, don't have one!

How did you hear about the server: I found your thread here on minecraftforum. I think I was also on Vanilla Plus for a few days, but life got a bit busy for me around that time and I wasn't able to spend as much time with Minecraft as I would've liked.
What got you interested in the server: I like vanilla servers, and I like servers with strong communities. It's really cool that you guys have a website so that people can easily socialize outside of Minecraft. I think something like that is really important for building a community. You've also been hosting Minecraft servers for a long time, which is a relief - it sucks playing on a server only to see it shut down a week later.
Questions or comments about the server: None right now. I usually like to ask about the plugins, but you've covered that in the first post.
Have you registered to our website yet: No, but I will if I'm accepted.
    -------------------------------------------------------
Solo/Group: I have worked on builds with other people before, but normally I live and build by myself. I like playing multiplayer way more than single-player, and I like participating in the community. Single-player is fun for a little while, but after I've done everything I want to do, it just feels lonely.
PvP/Non-PvP: I love PVP. A few years ago, I was really into anarchy/deathban/PVP servers. But there aren't many servers like that anymore, and so I've moved on as well. Now I like playing on vanilla or semi-vanilla servers, and it doesn't really matter if they have PVP enabled or not. In fact, on a lot of these servers, I find that even if PVP is enabled, most people don't attack anyone else. So, I guess my answer is that I like PVP, but haven't really done PVP in Minecraft in a while.
Leader/Follower: Tough to say. I ran a realm/server a while back, and I loved being "the leader," although a lot of the other players took the lead in building/planning more so than I did. On servers that I do not own ( :P ) I would say that I'm usually more of a follower, or a go-with-the-flow type.
Giver/Taker: With community builds, I'll take what I need and give whatever I have too much of. Or, if someone else needs something and I know I have it, I'll offer it to them. Being friendly and helpful goes a long way, people remember when you help them and then they're more willing to help you out when you need it.

About me: I'm Skunk / Skunky. I'm 22 years old. I'll give you three facts about me. First, I build websites for a living, so I'm kind of a nerd in some ways. Second, I have a cacti collection and don't spend my time taking care of them (seriously, they're the best plants, you can have a nice little garden and hardly ever have to water them). Third, I like to spend part of my weekends volunteering with cute animals - specifically, skunks! And, fair warning, if I ever get sprayed by a skunk again one weekend, I will definitely complain to you guys about it and ask why skunks have to be so cute yet so stinky :P

posted a message on Small, Lonely Realm Looking For Casual Survival Players - 16+

Hey, I like the idea of this! I would love an invite.

My IGN is SkunkAttack. I'm 22 years old. I've been playing casually for about four years now — casually meaning I'm still learning new things about this game all the time, which keeps it fun and interesting. If I really like the realm, I would try to get on daily, although there may be some days when I'm too busy.

Email/Contact(Opt): A PM here on Minecraft Forum is the best way to reach me.
What is your playstyle: I like to build my home in unconventional places, like underground, underwater, in the nether. And I try to make it self-sustaining, with farms, a mine, transportation systems, etc. I love playing with others and being involved in a server's community, but I tend to build by myself. I think Minecraft is best enjoyed with other people, single-player worlds get lonely!
Will you follow the rules: Yes!
Have any questions?: I am curious about which plugins you have running on your server, but I also understand that you may not be able to share this for security reasons.

posted a message on [POLL]Should players be banned permanently?

I can't imagine running a server that would last for years. That would be pretty cool, don't get me wrong. But, like you said, most servers only last for a few months.

That said, I like to think I'm a believer in second chances. But it would depend on the individual and their interactions with me. I would probably default to permanent bans for breaking the rules, but if someone got in touch with me later down the road and explained their situation, I would consider revoking their ban.

posted a message on Ranks on Minecraft servers

Unless you own an awesome computer that has the power to effectively host a Minecraft server (and most people don't), running a server costs money. Donor ranks are a way for the server owner to help pay for the server. Since s/he's paying for the server out of pocket, I personally don't see anything wrong with offering donor ranks and privileges in an effort to help pay for server upkeep.

posted a message on Markus Persson's Sad Becuse He Sold Minecraft.

That's not how I interpreted it. He wasn't upset because he sold Minecraft. He was upset because high-status, wealthy people can often seem very disingenuous. In some ways, it must be difficult to be thrust into that lifestyle when you're not familiar with it. Money doesn't solve all of your problems; it solves some of them, but it introduces new ones.

posted a message on A Skunk's Journal – Survival Single Player World

Hello, and welcome to A Skunk's Journal. I've been searching for something new to do in Minecraft lately, and I thought it'd be fun to start a new SSP world and write a journal for it. I've got a ton of ideas for this world, some of which I've done before and some of which I have yet to do. I'm going to enclose each entry inside those green spoiler buttons. Thanks for reading!

Entry 1: Living under — no, inside! — a rock

Spawn was pretty boring, to be honest, so I didn't take any pictures. Besides, I can only carry around so much with me, right? (Actually, now that I think about it, I can carry around quite a remarkable amount of stuff.) Anyway, point is, spawn was a boring spawn biome, and I imagine whoever has found this journal and is reading it right now (that's you!) doesn't want to see that stuff anyway.

So, let's get right into it!

I wandered around for a long, long time. I mined a lot, I hunted a lot, I waited a lot (for daytime — it took me a terribly long time to find some sheep to make a cozy bed). When I did finally settle down somewhere, it wasn't very pretty, but it was a nice little area to keep my stuff, and the fences guarded me from monsters.

See that zombie back there? He's clearly smiling for the camera, and not trying to eat me alive!

Eventually, I left this... wooden platform, I guess is what you'd call it... in search of a nice area to really call home. I have always liked the idea of building underground, and so for a while I thought that was where I'd be headed. Until I found...

Everyone loves overhangs, right? I thought it looked really cool anyway, and I can already imagine building something really neat on the top of it.

But remember the part where I said I loved underground houses? That's still true! Except instead of living underground, I thought it'd be best to carve out a little hole in the rock and live in there.

Well, a bit nicer than just a typical hole...

As of now, there's four rooms and a hallway, and it's all very compact. I have always admired minimalist bases that contain just the essentials. Don't worry though, I have a lot of ideas for this world, and this is just the very beginning.

Beautiful surroundings, by the way. This forest is just to the left of our budding base. And to the right...

Open extreme hills. Great for many things... a mine, a portal, some farms. May or may not build those here, but it's an idea for now!

Let's get to decorating the inside though. I don't want to live in a literal hole in the wall!

There's four furnaces cooking up stacks of cobble like that. And I had to cook some more even after all those were done!

The plan is to use stone slabs for the floor and stone bricks for the walls. Not sure about the ceiling yet.
I know it might make it look a little too much like a stronghold, but... I really like this look for an underground or an in-the-mountain base. And, well, I guess that means I like the stronghold look too!

Plans for the rooms include a crafting room with a crafting table and furnaces, a bedroom with, well, a bed and lots of skunky decorations, and a storage room replete with chests. There's also a foyer or an entryway, but I'm not entirely sure how I want to style that yet.

posted a message on I screwed up big time :_:
    Quote from 420_Rekt»

The world was a completely new world. So, can I just delete the world folder? It won't effect me if I have to delete the world. Would it be a problem that the world is the default "world", associated with "world_nether" and "world_the_end"?

I have a "Hub" world too. If I delete the "world" world folder, will the folder reload and make another default world when starting the server?

In my experience, that is what would happen. I've deleted the world folder, along with world_nether and world_the_end plenty of times and witnessed a new world folder (and consequently a new world) generate. The world will be generated based on the value of the level-seed property in the server.properties file. If that property is left blank, it will be a random seed.
