I'm having the same problem with the blank white map. It happens when I enter in the seed number manually, and also when I load the level.dat file. It also happens with loading a random seed. It's not so much a blank white map, as no map at all gets loaded, it seems.

    Thanks for all your work.

And Effusion is a pretty fun game. It's my regular bathroom time waster.

Thanks for supporting me! Every bit helps!

As for your problem, I'll need a detailed error message. Unfortunately (as I've noticed) the error messages people have been posting quickly lots of screenshots and generally they don't get the whole message. I think my next goal will be to add a crash dialog with an easy-to-paste error message.

Until then, if you could give me a full error log, that'd be great.

I'm finding that I see something similar occasionally but I know what the problem is.

I've been using Amidst to search for specific world types (minimal resource survival islands ie 1 tree islands) using Ctrl-R.
When I see a map that might be a good candidate I do a Ctrl-C and have MC 13W39b create the world and then I spend a minute or two checking out the world.
I have a notepad++ file in another window that I use to log the seeds I've checked, so I log what I found and then exit the world on MC and delete the world.

Lately, I've found that MC is deleting the data in the save folder but NOT deleting the folder.

I just tried using Amidst on the latest world folder in my saves folder and got a huge window full of Java errors that boiled down to "file not found" and "fail to open file". Upon investigating I found that the last two world folders (by date) were empty.

I noticed this before with MC 1.7 snapshots but failed to mention it.

Other than that I'm not having a problem with Amidst v3.4.

I REALLY would like to see log file option built into Amidst.
Or, at least, a "Back" button for the last 10 maps.

I was thinking about this a bit. I think that logging might not be the best option.-- I may add it temporarly, but I'd like to see a more flexible way to search through maps.

I have the latest versions of both MC and Amidst. When I try to load from my level file, nothing happens. Amidst screen just stays empty. Even when I try to load a level from random seed, nothing loads as well.

My error log. Thanks in advance.

I'm not entirely sure what's causing this error, but I'll do a bit of testing today.

I've been using Amidst since the beginning. It's a great utility.

Any chance you could look into a way to 'highlight' a certain biome you're looking for on the Find menu? In the past it was never an issue, but now that we have Savannahs, non-cold Taigas, forests, birch forests, birch forest hills, roofed forests, jungles, plains, sunflower plains, flower forest and extreme hills+, that's a lot of variations on green!

When I want to locate a rarer biome, like flower forest or ice spikes, a highlighting tool that makes its color more prominant (or reduces other biome colors to shades of gray) would be really handy!

The problem is that there's only so much I can do with Java's 2D rendering system. However, I'll see what I can do!

I just tried Amidst v3.4 and I really like it. It's a really useful tool- thank you for sharing it with the community. I have a question regarding the player icon. I just viewed my current 1.6.2 world (single player survival map) and spotted my current location. What I found kind of disturbing was, that there were three other player icons about 500 blocks away. They all were named Player XXX (three-digit number). As I'm not in multi-player - how is this possible? Who are these guys?!

That IS weird. Maybe it ties into the problem other people have been having. It would really help if you could upload your map. However, since maps are large, I would include everything BUT region/DIM1/DIM-1 folders.

    Quote from DamienMolen

As I wrote before 3.4 does not work for me, 3.3 works fine.
The debug version stops after a while:

Weird... I don't recognize a lot of the libraries in that list. Perhaps you've used Forge and it downloaded them?

    This is so freaking AWESOME!

    Thank you!

    Quote from leon0gm

Can you put in a feature for it to find specific things and amounts of things like a quad witch hut ( witch huts in a 200 x 200 area of the other witch huts) or maybe the same for villages can you Please add this in it would be great if you could

I'm certainly looking into adding something like this, but the problem is finding a user friendly way of adding it.

    Quote from HinataStar

3.4 doesn't work. It won't open level.dat on my save file. Can you help?

That's not really a bug report, now is it?

    Quote from Freso

    It works fine for me.

And so no one became any wiser. If you would post errors or perhaps describe what doesn't work for you - does the program start at all? If so, that part obviously works. Does it render random seeds? Custom entered seeds? Did you upload your level.dat somewhere so Ski could take a look at it? No? Then that might also be a good thing to do.

Also, read http://www.catb.org/...html#idp5122192 for future reference when reporting something that doesn't work - for you.

Exactly this. I can not magically look into a computer and see what's going wrong. Especially if there's no information provided.

Skidoodle thanks for sharing this magnificent tool.

Since I found AMIDST I was wondering if an indication for spawn point is going to be added. It is a great addition because it is a very valuable piece of information, but it is not slightly inaccurate like witch huts, etc. Using the seed -1309837652778384792 , AMIDST v3.4 shows that spawn point is located at 0,0 while in fact it is at -446, -144 (Minecraft 13w39b). Do you plan on fixing this bug concerning spawn points?

It's a bit unclear on what Minecraft does when the spawn-point locating code returns 0,0. I'm under the impression it does something using block data. I may look into it again, but for the time being, we may just have to put up with that.

(For me, anyway,) I've isolated this issue: The program doesn't work with newer snapshots than it says it does. So to use it you'll have to (like I did) use the launcher and download 13w38c specifically and run AMIDST on it specifically.

Seeing as AMIDST does what it says on the box, as in work through 13w38, it's not really a bug. However, as I don't think they changed the biome generation between 38 and 39 it seems it shouldn't crash on trying to pull 39 (or at least throw an error message), that could be considered a bug. I won't blame the tool author, but it could possibly have been handled better.

Anyway, there's an isolation and a "workaround" until the next version of AMIDST.
It crashes rather than giving an error because Minecraft did something very unexpected. (In this case: tried to load in a library that didn't exist) I'm working on it, but I've been rather busy. Sorry D:

    Edit:
Did a quick release to support these new snapshots. This may or may not cause issues on some computers... but I doubt it.

13w39a adds a folder in the .minecraft\versions\13w39a\ folder besides the .jar and .json files.
The folder contains 9 .dll files.
I doubt that Amidst knows what to do with them.

OBTW - 39a works on my machine but if I tell Amidst to use version 39a it locks up and I have to close it and restart it to get it to accept any other version.

It looks like 39a requires some new libraries. Unfortunately, one of these is Mojang's new "authlib-1.1.jar" which I cannot redistribute. I suppose I'll just make AMIDST use the libraries it finds. At the very least, this will lower the file size of AMIDST.

When i use the Amidst that works for 1.6.2 (2.1) it says: "Unable to find minecraft.jar, please locate it", Does this have something to do with the servers and logins and being offline?

AMIDST 3.3 is completely backwards compatible. (Possibly more so than 2.1)

    Quote from McKiller5252

Could you try to make it so it would work with the Amplified world terrain gen please?

This is actually a bug, I thought I had already added support for it. Turns out, I forgot one little bit. It'll be in the next update. (Until then, just use the world seed)

    Quote from Darkhand_81

Been using Amidst almost from the beginning, it's an invaluable resource. :)

With the number of biomes increasing, I'd love the ability to visually sort them... Perhaps a checkbox for each type of biome that would color the checked biomes while leaving the unchecked ones greyed out. Would make it much easier to find the biomes you're looking for.

    Keep up the great work!

I might be able to do something like this, but it's very tricky to do using Java2D.

    Quote from SonicfanHD

It gives me a big error when I try to load it up with a AMPLIFIED world in 13w37b I believe. (13w38c makes me lag for some odd reason)

This will be fixed in the next update, sorry. (Although amplified does not affect biome generation)

Mojang actually used Admist to compare the oceans before and after, check out this:

Not actually the case. I just stole their color scheme.

Hello friends. Last year I was able to use Amidst perfectly but now I can't load my level. I have the latest versions of both MC and Amidst. When I try to load from my level file, nothing happens. Amidst screen just stays empty. Even when I try to load a level from random seed, nothing loads as well.

I'm using Windows 7 and I have the latest Java version as well. What may be wrong?

Use the debug version, and get me the error log.

I've been using this tool for a while - it's freakin' awesome. Thanks!
I'd love to see a colour key, though. Right now I've no idea what colour Redwood Forests are - can't find one...
That would be nice, too! Results could be highlighted or whatever.
    ------
Not bad. Now, to get that in the app itself, or better, a "highlight biome" feature...

There's a few options here. I do think something like a color key on the side (as an optional layer) would be nice. However, the trick is that I can't make a specific biome highlight itself within the map. This would require a large amount of work, as I'd have to rewrite how the entire map is rendered. Ideally I'd switch to something like OpenGL, but that's a big change.

Yeah, it's completely appropriate for the typical usage that people are making of your tool. We are often trying to find interesting seeds to invest our time on, whether servers or SP, and knowing the spawn location while doing the "quick-searching" AMIDST allows without actually creating the world can help us in making those decisions, especially with scripts like people are starting to make.

And of course; being able to also change the spawn location for an already existing map while checking it out in your tool is the perfect complement to that. Sometimes the default spawn location of a map is bland but an area a couple thousand or even 20k away is incredible! Instead of having to give up the old server map they could just relocate to a whole new part of the old one, which they only discovered because of AMIDST! :) Then, if modded, they could still "portal" to their old domain when needed then go back to the new world while actually always remaining on the same map.

God I love this tool. :D

Unrelated, but: When I hosted a private server, I would just use Mystcraft and have portals going back to each of our old worlds as we regenerated the entire map. The backup size got a bit large, though. I even had a world from one of the original releases of Minecraft multiplayer. It surprisingly worked (after opening it once in single player to change the formatting)

    Quote from Freso

I'm personally somewhat indifferent about it and just figure it'll be somewhat close to somewhere around (0,0). However, a lot of people have been requesting it, so I went and made a ticket for it: https://bitbucket.or...amidst/issue/40

Thank you very much. Tickets always make things so much easier to keep track of.

I'm hoping to move to a bit faster release model. At the moment, I think I'm going to stay away from many new features. (Specifically ones that require a nice preferences menu-- spawn location is fine) Instead, I'm doing bug fixes, and more importantly, performance increases. I think I -might- be able to greatly increase world generation time. Or at the very least, reduce the RAM usage of AMIDST.

I've put up AMIDST 3.2, which is basically just the alpha plus a few minor touch-ups. (Also, I added 13w37a to the version list). I figured that I should release it as people are having a lot of issues.
