About the only request I'd make is to not feature Whitelist servers. I don't have anything against them, but it's pretty useless to advertise a server that nobody actually gets to play.
Besides, the good ones will run their own youtube channels if they really want people to see what they're doing.
Also, if you DO choose to spotlight a server, it might not be a bad idea to check with the server owner first. I could see a server really getting hammered hard with people trying to log in all of a sudden when it got featured....

Relax. Take a deep breath. We can read what he wrote, and you're the only one who thinks he was being a jerk.
As for your portal room, it's not really anything new or all that big of a deal. Sometimes your strongholds generate in ocean biomes, in which case this kind of thing can happen.

BUT
You need to give them your public IP address, I'm guessing you gave them the local (private network) IP of your machine, which is why people using your local network can still reach it.

The advantage is that it breaks line-of sight so you can use it to hide from mobs.

Because we're discussing the behavior in the last release version (1.6.4) as compared to the current release version (1.7.2)

Just out of curiosity, what did you use to make that map, and what game version was used to generate it?
While I agree that the ones in that seed are 5-20k apart that's only at the shortest point. There are several examples just in that one seed you show which are easily 60K, and if you pick a "bad" direction you could sail 200K or farther without finding dry land at all. (For example, starting in the center of the map and sailing NNW you'll hit the top edge of your image and never find anything other than mooshroom and ocean).
Keep in mind that in your image the bodies of water are not single ocean biomes, they are multiple ocean biomes joined together.
From what I see the ocean biomes are still roughly the same size as they used to be, they just generate less frequently so the resulting body of water is smaller. To be honest, the perfect solution would be to add a slider to the world options so people could just pick whatever ratio of land to water they desire.
And just for the record, if it's taking you as long to hit level 30 (or even 40) as it does to sail 20 or 30k, you're not doing a very good job of earning XP. And I'm not talking about xp grinders, using those it takes 15 minutes tops to hit level 40 (less if it's an End grinder).

They might have turned down the detection radius (I haven't checked). It also might be a side effect of not loading chunks as far away.

Yes, it's client based, but what he's complaining about is that hitting someone no longer 'breaks' the sprint. This effect can be countered with a server mod.

Soups PVP is a modded server. If it ruins it that much you could always... add another mod to counter the effect.
And FYI, plenty of people who have mice with macro buttons used them to get the same effect as the 'sprint' key in the old versions. So if anything, this just levels the playing field.

Not really, as you went farther from the spawn point you'd get more and more ocean, and the land masses would get smaller and smaller. If you were lucky your seed would give you land for maybe 20k at most, then it was just endless water with a few small biomes here and there.
If they really wanted to make everyone happy, they'd add a new world option for "large oceans" similar to the "large biomes", but only for the ocean biomes. Well, not everyone- some people will never be happy no matter what.
Edit:
To clarify what I meant, it was not the actual size of an ocean biome which bothered me, but rather the frequency that they showed up. I don't mind a few large oceans, but I'd like to find a decent size continent once in a while. So given the choice of old vs. new, I'm happier with the new.

It's just a texture bug, that's not "serious". If the bed didn't work, THAT would be serious.

The wiki says it was added before water was finite in order to prevent endless water spread, and they used to erase water.
I remember they would cause block updates in a 5x5x5 area instead of the normal 3x3x3 that other blocks do, so you could make some interesting redstone stuff with them.
Any more they're just decoration in creative and adventure maps.

Just FYI, Java is not the same thing as Java Script. You will need to learn actual Java to make mods.
As for what to do... try some multiplayer servers. Minecraft isn't just about getting everything and going everywhere, make goals for yourself. Play with others, fight, kill, cooperate, whatever. If things are just too boring for you, take a break for a while. Come back after the update and check out what's new.

Can a moderator please just lock this thing already?

No, this isn't accurate. They are not pre-releases, they are development builds.
It might seem like a small detail but it's not- development builds can be VERY unstable and can have some really bad bugs. You need to be VERY careful about using them, ALWAYS back up your maps before trying the development builds.
Once Mojang is ready for actual pre-release things should be mostly stable and safe to try out. They publish the pre-release just in case there are any big bugs which need a last-minute emergency fix before the update goes "live".

There are no snapshots for 1.7 yet, people are assuming the next release version will be 1.7 but it's possible Mojang will release 1.6.5 first. As far as I know they have not yet made any official announcement either way.
Anyhow, you can play the weekly development builds of the upcoming version (whatever it ends up being called) by going into the "Profile" section of the Minecraft launcher and choosing which snapshot to use.
