I'm not sure if I mentioned this here before or if it was for some other shaders but lightning is very hard to see if not invisible with Enchanced Default shaders.

I think he meant the preview for Optifine 1.12.2 which is F6 pre1 ATM. Click the ”Preview versions” tab at the very top of Optifines download page.

I get a spike in my TPS every second or so. I tried to lower my render distance but it's the same result with any render distance. The spikes are larger when I load chuncks than they are when standing still.
My specs should be able to handle flying with 7 render distance without getting a TPS spike every second.

Just some things I've come to notice about Enhanced Default, minor thingys.
Entities hit with a "spectral arrow" or give the "glowing effect" are looking kinda funny
Another very small thing is that lightning bolts have a yellow tint and are A LOT harder to see than in default.

Some things I noticed:
I found that Enhanced default v1.08 has some glitching when in comes to fancy reflections. And horse inventories don't seem work.
Also something I was wondering, I use h0ppips Vanilla PBR resource pack with enhanced default, to get those sweet shadows. I noticed that your shadows work with the suns direction (which makes sense). But because the parts that are away from the sun have no shadowing it makes caves look a bit weird. If the shadowing was just less intense but still existed away from the sun it would look a lot more natural in places like caves and houses. It's also disabled in the nether. I don’t know how shaders like BSL do it.

about the EDv1.08. Is there a way to get the colour and feel of 1.071 or is the switch to a more cartoony/vibrant style intentional? I was unsuccessful in recreating the feel with the colour settings of 1.08. I tried messing with the gamma and tonemap but couldn't get it right.

Something that I noticed when playing with Enhanced Defaults is that when the moon rises and sun sets (or the other way around) the shadows and godrays switch very quickly between the moon and sun. In the Vibrant shaders the transition is very smooth, and doesn't have this "lightning effect."
Another very minor thing, in flat worlds the shaders produce these shadows at specific times of day. I was able to reproduce them the easiest by setting the time to 4000 and render distance to 25, they should appear and disappear from 4000 onwards.
