I wish you guys could see how hard I'm lulling right now.

do what †Ð Ÿøñø† posted but copy and paste your saves folder to your desktop. Uninstall Minecraft totally. Redownload it, and put your save folder back. That should work.

I agree, if we can find just the right size to scale it to then it'll be worth the work - but too small and I think the item count will go down so it's a matter of being careful how the size ends up. The other thing is that I did minimize the trap once - the chutes falling to the lava grinders were only 2 blocks apart in every direction and I said "surely this has to be better" to which when I watched the mobs spawn on 2x2 blocks they barely moved. I tried again with 3x3 blocks and they still barely moved. The only way I know they'll be active is if you have atleast 3 blocks wide and maybe 5-6 or more in length.

Edit: I tested waterflow stopped by signs, and if you have the mobs fall through the last 2-3 blocks they'll go straight through instead of floating. If you can make the spawn area just 2x2 or 3x3 with chutes all around but have water over them, the mobs tend to walk into the water as the ai makes them, but they fall through.

Oh god I thought I would never hear those damned radio sounds again. :sad.gif:

    BUT WHO WAS PHONE

It's interesting, because it combines gradual unseen horror and unseen cave sounds, which is what Mojang should be going for as "cave ambiance" instead of random train whistles.

Pretty much agree, I'd crap myself in half the caves I explore if this were the new sounds.

I think someone missed my intentions? I'm not arguing anything with anyone, when I argue, it's never weak. I'm stating what I would like to do and giving my opinions of the ups and downs that I think come with it based on the science of mob traps and how to make them better and better.

I know 99% of people don't like to build this stuff when starting out or anything, but guess what, some still might. You have to look at all of the crazy things people like to do and make tutorials for in Minecraft, how much of it is aimed at being able to reproduce without hacking... it's a ton. This is just another thing that some Minecrafter loves doing, and is trying to make for the people that like this too, so that they can reproduce it easy and without hacks.

My intentions are to design a trap that is super easy to make using the design applying the "kill mobs as fast as they spawn" method over the "trap mobs in 7 or 8 block long canals after they roam on a large surface area for awhile and carry them to a grinder where it might get backed up sometimes or something" trap. I never said "I know this will work 100% I know it" I'm saying it's what I'm wanting to attempt to make happen. The entire meaning behind building the large trap was purely for testing the design over the more known designs - under conditions mobs are forced there. With the right areas covered in light and the tweaking of the fact you can't always force all the mobs to spawn in the locations you'd like - I believed the design would benefit in some way. Lightstone in the build was simply for designing purposes and to my personal liking in the trap, you could have made the thing with 100% cobblestone and I would have still been interested in the design of how the mobs are being killed over what it's made of.

I'd rather people not argue about what they think the personal playing preference is for someone in the game, because you have no idea who is interested in what, and when. I intend for people to work together to be able to effectively break this trap down and turn it into something that still has good effect but that your every day Joe can build without too much hardship or confusion. (the everyday joes who are interested in this).

For hopefully making sure whoever had the wrong idea knows what I actually meant to happen with this thing, back on topic - As far as I know, it's 4 mobs at any time spawned to one chunk. If I built a tower going up and down legit, I would imagine it would have less effect than a single or double floor that expands giving more surface area to each 16x16 chunk letting more mobs spawn. I'm not too good at the mob science though so I may be wrong, that's just what I assume off of what I think I know. This just circles around to the fact that you would have to build this high in the sky and over an ocean like mentioned to reduce the mobs spawning in unlit caves around you.

I'd love to have the savefile if you're at 20k, I haven't played with it too much since I finished although I've wanted to. I needed to take a break after working on it so long. 79? That's sad to know, I had no clue.

I'm thinking of making a design soon based on all of the awesome feedback and improvement you guys have made and implying it on a new world 100% legit where I record it. I'm trying to make a limit for myself so it can be honestly defined as practical, such as "You're able to build this mob trap in 10 minecraft days" or "With 3 solid hours of playtime, following this guide you can have a legit build as well" - the reason being, is because people are starting new worlds all the time, and the trend of playing legit is slowly rising. So to have a very very easy trap to build within a short amount of time after starting a new world which actually gives a good amount would become highly used.

Even if you don't start a new world, but just want to make a home or base somewhere away from where you currently reside, time and materials can work with & against you.

The one thing that comes with this though, is how to easily get some lava for just starting fresh. Some people are lucky to have lava pools near when starting new worlds, but not all. If there's no answer to that then you would think a cactus or drowning trap. I'd prefer lava, but it's hard to say what the end result will be.

If anyone would be interested in helping me out on this or has a limit I should follow, please say so, this is my next little project - (this stuff counts for one of my college classes too, aren't I lucky?)

Well the chunk 0 exploit is gone so as you see a lot of towers aren't superior to floors anymore since all chunks are equal, as far as I know of. With the design as far as I calculated, (if right), it's just big enough of a single floor to hit the 200 mob cap. With a single floor, they die as fast as possible, but with another floor added, it just takes and splits the mobs up, 100 would be on floor #1 and 100 would be on floor #2 - and if you just copied another floor directly above the first, the time mobs have to fall from the 2nd to 1st will slowly add up and increase the time it takes for a mob to die. Remember you want mobs to spawn and hit the lava grinder as fast as possible, so a second floor just makes the distance even farther. I tried 2 floors, 5 and 10, and the more floors I had the less items an hour I was getting because the amount of space a mob had to roam kept increasing.

Is it normal that I get this incredible lag the moment I even get into the vicinity of the mob trap? I use RamDisk, Game Booster, Peaceful difficulty, Tiny and all sound muted, ALL AT THE SAME TIME, and I could still only squeeze 2 bloody fps when using the mob trap. Lag doesn't worsen when I switch to Normal, but it's not getting better either.

Try setting it to peaceful and just sit afk for 5 or so minutes, give all the items that could be anywhere in the waterflows to go away. Most likely my cause of lag was when there were items being produced that I wouldn't pick up, that's why the lava pit is there, so you can destroy them while you aren't farming them.

I searched around and found nothing like the idea, if I missed it my apologies, please let the thread die.

I wonder what it would be like though to choose your race or class before starting a world...

    Examples:

Human - Basically what we all are now.
Evolvire - A more advanced version of the human, which has adapted to seeing in the dark, but slightly blinded by and is hurt by sunlight.
Elf - Has great self healing abilities, but can only live near plant-life and sunlight, being underground too long makes you sick.
Aquasi - Pretty much your standard half human half underwater creature race, needs to live under water, and can only surface on land for very short periods of time.
Hunter - Has the ability to tame a mob for a period of time, but the mob can go hostile without notice, leaving you in constant danger of being betrayed.
Packrat - Has the ability to store many more items and carry them than any other race, but the heavy burden comes with a price - 50% slower moving rate.
Telepath - Gives you the ability to sense when a mob is near, even if they aren't in plain eyesight. The downside is, your abilities are without control, and you alert the mobs of your presence as well.
Archaeologist - You carry a small map in your inventory showing where current materials and minerals were found, and plotpoints of where they may possibly be next.
Furycla - A spawn from the Nether thrown into a different world. You can reside in the Nether without ever being attacked, but in the plain world, you tend to set fire to whatever you touch.

Those were just off the top of my head. If it's a silly idea I understand - it's pretty far-fetched, I just thought it was a cool thing to mention :tongue.gif:

That shouldn't take too long, I'll try it out and see what happens, I'm actually going to try different configurations of the walls since everyone's suggesting them to see if anything better works. I like the fact someone mentioned there can be space saved with the lava, the signs make it possible to make the blade 2 long instead of 4 - would make it possible for even more individual traps with chutes extending to the mob spawning floor.

If I decide to redo it, or someone else takes the time to redo it, we would have to make an entirely different design for the spawning floor and the waterflows, as well as the walls (if any are needed).

Here's an image of the mobfloor with the walls removed, the 2 little stone blocks in each canal are above the water source blocks to keep mobs from standing stale in them.

I know it sounds like a high aim, but I always look for videos showing new things that haven't been thought of yet - I just seen the boat walkway and ladder video yesterday and I was like, "pffft, screw boat elevators and minecarts with boosters, 3 stack boats are the way to go!"
