It looks like a great way to mine if it's better than the cb technique, but I'm pretty stupid so it's slightly confusing - images or a video might help (me atleast).
Edit: I loaded a testing map and very carefully followed the instructions and now I see how it works, and it is better than the cb technique, great job!

Feb 2, 2011Sorry, online classes have the better part of my day. Pretty much to sum it up, there's two main rules I guess people need to keep on their list when making and testing traps:Posted in: Survival Mode
Rule1 - Area lighting is the key to forcing mobs where you want them.
Rule2 - Gravity is not the answer to effective item farming.
By the way, I was in a Minecraft-mood (romantic, eh?) last night and did some stacking and condensing a bit on the 17k/hr trap and managed to get just over 21.1k items an hour. Since the focus is more about vertical building instead of horizontal now - Almost a cube design, honestly - I'm going to focus on that design combined with the 17k/hr design and pretty much see if I mix it with the design apocalypse_r did, and make something worth a calling practical and effective.
Jan 31, 2011This is awesome for a class project, when I was that age doing projects in school it was cardboard cutouts with copy & paste in 12 font text glued somewhere that nobody bothered to read. This is a good way for making the viewer actually soak in the information you're providing. You'll do good.Posted in: Survival Mode
Jan 31, 2011I don't really have scrennies either, I mostly build big traps and such but I'm OCD with what I do build. If you still need a builder later on PM me and I'd be happy to build in a server in my freetime, college is killing me these days.Posted in: Survival Mode
Jan 31, 2011Sinstrite posted a message on How do I Merge 4 Minecraft world together with MCedit? The only thing I can think of, is find the sizes of each world. Then make World5, and use MCEdit to move yourself around on the map superfast and get chunks to generate, pretty much - make that map huge, bigger than the other 4 combined.Posted in: Discussion
If your computer can handle it, and you have patience, I'd say it's possible to make each world a schematic then just open and place each one in World5 - and theoretically you'd have merged them to one.
Just a guess though. That would be millions and billions of saving and reuploading blocks I'd imagine.
Jan 31, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from Valicious »With other people around (1-3) We get about 1k/hr. We lighted up every cave we could find. Is there any trick how to find more caves? Because thats pretty much the only thing that could explain the low item gain.
Sorry for the late reply, I was busy with some assignments. I'm not a major player on servers, I barely ever get on, you might want to ask someone that's more experienced with them. If possible, see if you can get the map on MCEdit or another program where you can look everywhere for caves and double check to see if you missed a few. If that doesn't work just make sure that you have all of the lighting done far enough away, other then that, my guess is it's just something to do with being constructed on a server itself, there's possibly different ways mobs and spawning work for traps on there - I have no idea - hope someone more experienced with servers browses over this.
Jan 31, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from Valicious »So we built your design on our server. (one of the 2 spawning rooms). We built it completely underground and under water to prevent animal spawns. But somehow we dont really get that much items.
Is it important that all the water trenches are built with glass?
Did you make sure to light the surface and all caves within the area needed around the trap? And how many players are on the server when you test it? If it's a few then you need to only have 1 to get a full test or have everyone stand in the room with you so all the mobs spawn in the trap.
Jan 29, 2011This is great -Posted in: Survival Mode
That's the best part, imo. I think with a bit of tweaking, this could be on the way to becoming one of the most practical traps. I'd imagine the hardest/most tedious part would either just be the digging or having to place the torches, but that's a small price to pay for something that does so much for so little a build & you'll have permanently. You could build this on smp in a few hours with a few people, fully legit.
Jan 29, 2011Posted in: Survival ModeQuote from apocalypse_r »first thing first, you cannot place cactus on nothing or next to other blocks. This makes designing a trap somewhat difficult.
That being said, I have designed a trap which has the following conditions -
-much smaller / easier to build than the original trap
-based on cacti, not lava, and has a better chance of not destroying items (especially strings)
-uses the southwest rule to cause cacti damage -
west <----- ** -----> east
-kills mobs slower than the lava trap (.5h/hit as opposed to 2h/hit)
-you could embed one within the ground on an smp server in probably less than 4 hours by yourself
-made almost entirely from dirt, torches, and water
-could probably be modified to generate cacti too
-still benchmarking it, but it seems to be producing at a rate of about 6000 items/hr
-I am not sure it will usefully scale any larger than it is now (might be at mob limit)
I will upload the save when im done playing with it
I can't wait to see what you've done and how practical it is =] I was messing around with compacting things and did what's in the video, do you think it would benefit your trap any if you were able to adapt it to cactus?
Jan 29, 2011Sinstrite posted a message on Mo' Creatures - v12.0.0 for Minecraft 1.12.1!! Now Opensource!!I've installed the mod manually, as well as Modloader - and the game works fine with the original audio, but the audio for the new animals is silent. When I install AudioMod though, the entire audio on the game goes silent. I think I may just be putting the files from AudioMod in the wrong places, I'm not sure - help or suggestions would be appreciated.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Jan 29, 2011Every time you log on, and see a slight update, even if the download is only 1/10th of a second, and even if there's no mention of it, that means he's working on it for us. It'll finish itself eventually, I believe in Mojang.Posted in: Survival Mode
