Please learn to use the forum's search function, or an advanced search via google (which tends to give better results if done right). This is among the most commonly suggested ideas, and more often than not gets turned down because it doesn't serve much of a use.
And if you have any knowledge on geology, melting obsidian into ingots is terribly unrealistic even by Minecraft standards.

OK I have been thinking about Obsidian tools for about a while now, and i think that if you were to mine obsidian there is a 1/5 chance that it could drop a item called pure obsidian, pure obsidian is the ore that you would have to smelt in order to get an obsidian Ingot. And Since Obsidian tools would be much more better the diamond tools i think that it is ok for there to be a 1/5 (or even higher!) chance of getting the pure obsidian. And it would also be cool to replace sticks with bones since bones are much more stronger then sticks, but for obsidian tools only. Reply saying if you think it would work or not work and saying why please. :smile.gif:
