Personally, although this change doesn't bother me too much, I did somewhat enjoy larger, more expansive oceans. I mean, yes, larger oceans =/= fun oceans. But sometimes, games aren't just about the "fun" or "things to do" part of the game. Tedious parts make games as well.
Take Papers, please. It's tedious. It's repetitive. It's stressful. How can that game ever be fun or rewarding? But it is. People love that game.
I almost feel the same about minecraft oceans, just in a different way. Oceans gave a lot to the sense of exploration. However boring it may have been, it gave the right FEELING, if you get what I mean. It felt right. You would sit in your boat for what seemed like hours, pondering whether or not this direction was the right way to go, when you would see land. Then, you would presumebly jump for joy and get off your stale little boat and go exploring. Smaller oceans just don't give the same feeling. You know you're gonna hit land in a small amount of time. There's no searching. There's no anticipation. There's no feeling of joy when you finally set foot on land.
Also, persuasive writing is fun.

Mar 28, 2013I don't need to build this giant castle - I could just build a dirt hut. I don't need to make everything pretty. I don't need to build large redstone contraptions just to lock my front door. Minecraft doesn't need lapis, or colored wool, or chickens, or different trees. You know, minecraft doesn't need a lot of things.Posted in: Future Updates
Edit: God, now the word "need" sounds so stupid to me. Whenever I say it, I begin to think of "knees" and "bees."
Oct 17, 2012ShinySnack posted a message on Anyone else think that the Witch could have had more effort?Mojang really needs to step their game up. Obviously, the zombie is the worst mob in the game and needs a MAJOR overhaul. All it does is groan and walk towards you! It has a melee attack, but no swinging animation! WTF? Stop being lazy mojang! Give zombies more then two animations! In fact, zombies are just simple re-skinned steves! With all the complaining that's been going on over the lack of effort in zombies, you guys should have fixed it AGES ago!Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
Not only that, but skeletons are coded badly too! They don't even have pull-back animations on their bows! Spiders literally float across the floor while wiggling their legs! Everybody's been complaining about all of these badly made mobs for AGES, and mojang still hasn't fixed any of them! Stop being lazy mojang!
Oct 9, 2012I've been noticing lately that dubstep gets tons of hate for what seems like rather trivial reasons. It can certainly get repetitive, and it's quite easy to make, yes. But those reasons don't exactly make dubstep the devil like everyone else says it is. So exactly why does everyone hate dubstep, even in relatively small amounts such as the Halo 4 weapons trailer?Posted in: Culture, Media & Arts
Edit: Wow, I didn't even know there was an arts section. Sorry mods.

Yep, that's right: Dallas and Houston, hotbeds for far-right, help-the-average joe-at-all-costs, liberals-are-trampling-all-over-my-civil-rights activism, have prohibited individual citizens from feeding the homeless. These laws are now being challenged by a coalition including "Mr. Don Hart, known rapper Bobby Herring and his wife Amanda, and their Youth-Outreach nonprofit orginization", none of whom sound liberal at all.
The Mayor of Houston justified the ban by saying that the feeding of homeless is dangerous because the food could be contaminated and the homeless have little to no access to healthcare in case they get sick... because, you know, conservatives opposed universal healthcare in the first place.
Remember, folks: Liberals hate poor people! Vote Republican!

May 3, 2012To be honest, I didn't read this topic in it's entirety, but from what I've gathered, an disturbingly copious amount of people don't even understand how this new feature is likely going to work.Posted in: Recent Updates and Snapshots
As far as I understand, the update to merge SSP and SMP isn't going to force multiplayer. It will allow a single player world to be hosted as multiplayer directly from the standard client, while also preventing Mojang from developing essentially two separate games. The standard lag and bugs (if they aren't fixed) will only occur while a single player world is hosted as multiplayer.
Is anybody familiar with the similar pocket edition multiplayer? Look that up.

I think you're missing something... We're talking about ice... not a bucket of water that you can place and pick up endlessly. Seriously, try doing this in game with even 2-3 stacks of ice. I'm pretty sure you'll realize just how stupid the idea is when you're having to place the block of ice on the edge, break it, hope that the water flow doesn't push you off before you can destroy the source with a piece of dirt, rinse, repeat...
You can get stacks and stack of ice with one silktouch pickaxe.
it doesn't take rocket science or a lot of effort to cover lava with water, especially if you have stacks of ice.
This is much harder. You have to constantly hold shift while trying to place a block next to the one you are standing on. Also you cannot go from high up on a ledge, straight down if there is lava under you.
But, with ice you could just place ice and jump down and flood your way across the lava lake, turning it all to obsidian.
The Overworld isn't full of cliffs, drop-offs and overhanging ledges with giant lava lakes the size of oceans underneath them.
A). water in ice form wouldn't do anything to the environment, other than make Obsidian from lava... In very limited quantities since you would need a new block of ice for each water source and still wouldn't be able to create an infinite amount using buckets.
Ice would allow you to move quickly across areas that would otherwise be very difficult to travel through. There is a lot of lava in the Nether and quickly turning it all to obsidian with ice does impact the environment greatly.
. Using one single grass block and a large patch of dirt can already lead to that entire patch of dirt becoming grass. There is a similar aspect for mycelium. Both of which currently can be picked up with silk touch and brought to the nether along with a few dozen stacks of dirt. If you are wanting to spend the effort you can convert entire chunks of the nether into ones which resemble the overworld, with the exception of water. You can even bring chickens into the nether by throwing the normal eggs they lay.
Not a good comparison.
Ice you place one block. You are talking about moving many things at once and placing them. This isn't at all the same thing.
None of these suggestions are practical and would take a lot of time an effort. You can't grow any crops with your dirt and breeding chickens takes forever.
C) In contrast, you can take tons of netherrock, glowstone, soulsand, lava, and other bits and make your own nether landscape in the overworld if you have the time to spend.
Once again very time consuming, impractical, and not at all a comparison.

Again - no, it's not. If "being hot" is enough reason, then water in the desert should be also non-placeable. Logic is not something from you can pick only parts thats suit you. It's all or nothing.
A desert isn't as hot as hell. Some deserts irl are habitable.
I've seen lakes in the centre of volcan's caldera, surrounded by molten rocks. I've seen lava flowing on the top of glacier. If your point is that water/ice can't exist close to each other - you are wrong again.
I never said that and last time I looked there is no naturally occurring water or ice in the Nether. That is because it is too hot.
Farms are perfectly possible in the Nether right now. Your crops just grows slower. So, this point is moot.
You can't grow crops without water.
Due to spawn rules in MC 1.2+ efficency of any mob farm is not affected by presence or not of the water. Secondly, none of the Nether mobs lot can - even in huge numbers - have any major influence on game balance. So, this point is also moot.
I was never arguing against mob traps. I said they were easier to make with water.
Your point about consistency is moot, as showed in desert example. Period. Again: if you are going to use logic, you must obey the rules of logic in your EVERY statement. You can't use them only if it suits your current one.
I have. The ironic part is that your argument has been very inconsistent and absent logic. You also based you argument on many things that I didn't say.
So I will use your own quote against you:
you fail to represent ANY LOGICAL AND CONSISTENT ARGUMENT to back-up your claims.
Water will never be allowed in the Nether.

Are you ****ing serious? Recursion is never a good argument. Are people in this thread ****ing serious? Seriously, wtf i don't even..
"uh, like respect his hate"
"stop being racist against racists"
"op is a bad guy"
WHAT THE ****?
Also, since almost all arguments involve recursion you shouldn't listen to them. It's the dumb "hitler is good, because he killed hitler"-argument all over again. Any reasonable person would take a step away from that discussion. Because it's retarded.
I think you made the right decision. If he didn't want to change, then there is nothing you can do about it. De-friend him and move on.
A textbook overreaction, just like the OP. Do you have this problem a lot? You seem to make a lot of assumptions. At what point exactly did I say that racism is good? I was merely suggesting that reacting like this to someone who is racist is not an appropriate reaction. Nothing good will come of it. His friend will not stop being a racist and now he has one less friend than he did before. If the OP had maintained his calm he could have remained a positive influence in this other person's life.
Next time you think something doesn't make sense try to lead by example rather than fly off the handle and be a total douchebag.
Quote from HugTheZombies
The OP is being prejudice?
If what he's told us is true, it seems like the only person being prejudice here is his friend, who is judging an entire race based on the actions of few. The OP tried to convince him that he was wrong, but it didn't work, so he broke all ties with him. Seems like the right thing to do considering the OP has stated he doesn't want to be friends with someone who is racist, and that's his choice (and there is nothing wrong with said choice, because its his friend that's wrong).
You're all basically saying the OP should respect the fact that his friend hates blacks, and that's ****ed up. If we were talking about religious beliefs (for example), it'd be different, and I would agree, but we're talking about a guy who hates an entire race. The OP is supposed to respect that? Are you all ****ing serious?
Try to keep an open mind here and see past your arbitrary loathing for a person you don't even know. At no point did I say that "he should respect that his friend hates blacks" but reacting in this way is immature and counterproductive. It might seem like the right thing to do if you have the attention span of a gnat but if you think about it this kind of behavior is just as bad as that of his friend. Imagine if everyone in the world turned their backs on the racist bigots; they don't just go away and without any non-racist friends the racists just get worse.
Do your part. Hug a racist today.
Jan 26, 2012Because they're too good! They have unique behaviors, models, and textures, which just isn't shitty enough to incite the proper rage on this forum. They are actually somewhat original! To think that Jeb_/Jon would have the NERVE to try and add a neat and creatively-implemented mob! I hate Minecraft and the forums now, but I'm going to keep playing and posting here until the Sun explodes despite what I say because I'm only pretending to be enraged when I'm just mildly annoyed!Posted in: 1.1 Update Discussion

Dec 5, 2011LordBeverage posted a message on Amazing New Evidence Disproves Evolutionary TheoryNo, outright no.Posted in: Politics, Philosophy, News and Science
We have documented (that is, tested and supported) micro-evolution in hundreds of cases (and make no mistake, you cant have microevolution without macroevolution and speciation, they are the same thing), and the fossil record is so incredible vast and incontrovertible that it is impossible to logically deny without being disingenuous.
I know its hard to live in cognitive dissonance, but the only tenable way to live in an advanced society (technologically) such as our is, in your case, to accept that the writers of the bible simply could not fathom evolution and so simply replaced whatever God was telling the about it with the essence of "made them as they were". Made is a very open word.
Besides, what would a primitive and immature brain write if it had to describe unimaginable time scales (billions of years) without having a number for them? Yes, probably 'days'.
Also, that video is a joke.
Evolution doesn't say that "given matter and energy, new life will arise".
That's not a scientific proposal anyone is making or has ever made...
Firstly, the matter required for life must be the perfect kind, not just anything, like peanut butter. Elements in the correct proportion at the correct temperature, form more complex molecules that, in the correct proportion and temperature (really, really, hot- like lightening) become even more complex, and so on until you have a molecule that can reproduce itself. This is thought to be RNA, the first life. From there, these self-reproducing molecules enter bubbles in the water (in which they started), and become massive in number. When these self-reproducing-chemicals-in-bubbles become massive in number, and the statistics then say that things will happen to certain self-reproducing-chemicals-in-bubbles which make individuals more fit, and soon only the more fit ones survive over the originals, and this continues, and in about a billion years, you have the first cell. The process accelerates from there.
Second, the chances of life arsing are less than a decimal place then 10 zeros and a 1 in THE PERFECT CONDITIONS, IN YOUR LIFETIME. Were talking about billions of years time scales here. "Occasionally" in that video is the stupidest simplification in a long time.
And that's not even all, we have created the building blocks for life under natural early-earth conditions.
And yes. I bite on your troll. I had a good time writing this.
