if it legitimately hurts your eyes looking at some bright blocks in a video game, just make a resource pack and fill it with alternative textures, that don't hurt.

I personally love both the new blocks, and the new color palette. I gotta get used to the newly textured and very bright wool, but it's definitely an improvement to how they were before.

Guess what there are just as many people that don't like them. I don't hate all of the blocks i'm just saying most of them don't look good and they could have done better. The new current blocks look like they had no idea on what to add and just put some random in here.

This attitude of he doesn't agree with us so tell him to shut up needs to stop. For one thing my opinion isn't less than yours I can understand if people were complaining about a feature constantly without providing helpful feedback (Renamed the rose and SLIGHTLY changed the color, combat update.) Keep in mind i'm not even demanding a complete undo of the feature... just change it to something better.
Don't like it? Be quiet and don't use it some one else will love it.... wait what? What if I wanted to provide feedback and possibly get it changed better? I don't know, this is just what we do to anyone that has a different opinion, spam don't use it and hopefully the thread will die.

If you think i'm being too aggressive no i'm not. In almost all games there are people who give back information thats not 100% dev kissing that always get the "Then don't play" reply. Even early access games, the ones that need feedback. It needs to stop.

You like the blocks? good just say you do, why you think we're wrong and then leave until more replies. Don't say "Then just don't use it then." It's the laziest way people shut down other opinions. The time to get a change is now before the update hits.

If you want an easier way to figure out the costs of running the PC, get a Kill-a-Watt they are great for that.

I was looking for a way to measure costs per month for servers (which is why the equipment I linked was server CPU.)

There is a $2k server or I could get 2-3 other server cpu's that combined are stronger but use more power. I wanted to measure that power cost. (Around $160 for two CPU's and 230 watt usage.)

It would be a constant rate of 115w. Like when you have a lightbulb on.

Im not sure how to measure that. Maybe its every 1killowatt an hour 12 cents is paid.

    So it says 115w (watts.)

Okay so what is that? per hour, per second, per minute? what? I'm trying to find the monthly cost of these things. Just a general answer would be best (what most companies measure the power usage by.)

Because Mojang already gets enough crap for using ideas from mods. Besides, just don't use them. It's as simple as that.

So i'm not supposed to weigh in my opinion because some one says don't use them? No I want a block that all of us can use and like. These are just so ugly it makes me mad. I would have expected more designs that follow the feel of minecraft, even if they were wicked crazy in colors.

Seriously Chisel 2 does (most of it) what i'm talking about
    Awesome blocks http://i.imgur.com/kpvAGFS.png

Blocks like that or even the carpets from chisel 2 (which I loved.) The current blocks look like poorly designed carpets and the concrete from what I can tell is just a solid color.

posted a message on How can minecraft load so many blocks?
    Quote from Badprenup»

I might be wrong in some bits but I have the concept for you. To answer your first question, you did a bit of the math wrong. 16x16=256 but the world height is 256 so you have to do 256*256 which is 65536 blocks per chunk (air blocks count). Then for an 8 block render distance that doesn't include the chunk you are in so you are loading 17x17 chunks (8 in each direction from the chunk you are in). That is 289 chunks, so 65536x289 = 18939904 blocks loaded.

Now lets say each block is 4 bits, that means that you are using 75759616 bits of data. Seems like a lot but it really isn't. To translate that to bytes you divide by 8 (9469952 bytes) divide by 1024 to get kilobytes (9248 kb) and divide by 1024 again to get megabytes (about 9 mb). So all that HUGE amount of blocks is really a tiny bit of memory. That doesn't even touch how they are stored to further make it smaller and easier to load. Most of the RAM and CPU usage is for loading all the other stuff and running it like entities and things of that nature.

To answer your other question, the order you place blocks will not make a difference, no. And yes, falling Gravel is an entity so it takes more to store than a block.

That's very strange actually. All of those blocks and it only takes 9mb? Sheesh if i can recreate that in the games I hope to develop than there would be literally 0 problems. As for gravel I was a bit dissapointed hen 100 blocks falling at the same time was almost enough to crash the game (0fps.)

posted a message on What are the actual costs of MMO servers?

I have a very good reason to bump this post.

Most areas online are saying around 100k for mmo's or even cod to run their servers. Where is this arbitrary number coming from? "Oh so this is a mega server so it must be expensive per month to run right?" Where are you pulling those numbers from?

Buy the equipment (75k cores isn't cheap...) and power the d*m thing. Thats it. I would guess that the power cost and even expensive internet charges don't even add up to 100k per month. Unless these little things break down a lot I don't see a lot of costs in maintenance. Maybe 100k per month if you wanted to repay your investment.

posted a message on How can minecraft load so many blocks?

My first question is are they all loaded at once and if so how? 16x16=256x64(height)=16384x64(8 by 8 render range)=1048576 blocks loaded.

If I remember minecraft is all loaded on 1 core but possibly multiple threads so thats movement, AI, physics and what ever else that needs the processor also is loaded. Also the player could also be constantly generating and unloading chunks. Problem is even worse with multiplayer servers where that could be 80+ players.

My seconed question is if I were to all arrange the blocks randomly would that lad minecraft even more?

I guess maybe static blocks that never move are not that hard to load. Repalce that all with falling gravel and we have a problem.

You don't need to know both answers to reply on this topic. Even 1 answer is better than none.

When I first saw them in an update video it just hurt my eyes. Some of them look cool but they hurt.

. Why didn't' they just clone some textures from chisel 2? and put them into the game? The carpets from there look much better than the ones here.

One of my biggest issues with the new blocks is that they could have added so many other things but yet they add these mostly out of place blocks that really are just weird. Some of you may think they're cool but I would rather of had so many other types of blocks added. I would love to see marble, additional stone bricks, complete block sets (Spruce ladders ect) that others have mentioned, and so many others that would fit naturally in the world. No they add these.

posted a message on Minecraft must cater to all players

This has been annoying me for a while. For too long people have been saying no don't add this or no don't add that it allows greifing and it makes me mad. Nobody on these forums seems to want any kind of new explosion, base defense mechanisms or any way to harden a block (Like merging a block with obsidian makes it harder and gives it a slightly darker texture.)

I got to say something to you types of players... the game sucks for raiding and and base defense. If you don't want your precious little house destroyed then you should not be playing on an anarchy (aka how the game is delivered) or faction server. You shouldn't even be worried about this... go on a protected land server they'll most likely ban anything that can blow up your land or have a super advanced plugin to protect your claims.

Personally I think it would be super fun to add more types of explosions in the game or things that can change the environment dynamically. I also think it would be cool if we could get some base defense mechanisms or some way to harden our walls. Currently for vanilla minecraft it's just hide or else everything of yours gets destroyed.

But you can mod for this stuff... there is a factions mod

Yeah and you can install plugins to not get your base and buildings destroyed or changed in a bad way but yet there

are still many complaining "Don't add this feature it will cause greifing." Well then make a private server or join one protections... problem solved.

I also dare you to play vanilla minecraft with others and challenge the best and only way to defend your base... (Getting super far away and hiding... which is weak imo.)

    My arguments

The one thing that has always bothered me about this forum is that people don't really think. It's like come on you're only bashing on this idea because you don't like it and not because it's impossible. Yes there are some problems with some but its ignorant to just go and say "Nope not possible because so and so." How about use your brain a little and maybe that issues isn't a show stopper like you think it is. (It's like trying to add picture frames but people start saying nope can't add this.. it can glitch over holes in the walls.)

I really did once want to see this game to be the best it could be but in my honest opinion the community is holding it back. There will one day be another game that surpasses this and it will not be afraid to change things. Currently minecraft has to big of an audience to do anything but neutral patches.

If this topic gets locked and we can't have a discussion it just comes to show we need a new, better and mature forum. I actually like discussing things.

posted a message on How is your imagination?
Alright it's time for the response, sorry it's been a while but I'm just having the weirdest time of my life here.
    Quote from SheepInTheCity»

My imagination used to be, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being very creative, a 9/10. But with my little spiritual reboot that occurred somewhere in 2014, it dropped to somewhere around 6.

    Quote from EL_Kurto_15»

I probably spend too much time in my imaginary worlds.

    Quote from Anon135»

Well, as a kid and even in my early teens I could do this about just about anything thing, but in recent years I've found I can't dream nearly at all, be it at night or just old fashioned day-dreaming. I can, however, work up my imagination with a little effort right before I go bed, and it helps me sleep. The only problem with this lack of imagination, I can get a stitched-together image in my head when I'm trying to plan a build, but I'll lose it after a few seconds. This is true for minecraft, and drawing and painting and even just writing constructive stories. It's all very distressing considering Art is a large part of my life, and I'm in a creative-type career now, so I find myself struggling at times. I can't really make a whole idea or picture or build unless I do it pieces at a time and find a way to make the pieces fit together, so it means all create work I do takes me 10 times longer than it would someone without this problem....

I think for most people it's just a matter of... Growing up, I suppose. Some people keep their imagination, and others push it away. Unfortunately, we're the ones who push it away, whether we wanted to or not...

I can relate with most of what you said, i'm going out into creative career fields and its distressing for me (Video game development and Author of Novels.) I'm thinking for me it must of have been severe stress and not actually imagining after a while. However It's not gone completely and I think thats true goes for everyone. It may be possible to rebuild strength again simply by finding some quiet time and imagining then. Try to go for longer ones or just let yourself drift around visualizing random things. Do this every few days and with luck this may actually work with recovering it.
Some things that I think can damage such a thing
    • Not imagine for a while
    • Lack or not enough of sleep
    • Anxiouty and stress
    • OCD
    • Intrusive noises
    • Ourselves (Fooling)

Over time due to some issues I was having I may have tricked myself into believing that I didn't have one for an entire year which damaged it greatly. Another problem may have been people that just don't stop talking or random sounds that are loud and intrusive and take me out of deep thought 10 minutes after it started (It takes anywhere between 1 min to 45 to fully get into these worlds for me, at least it used to.) It was pretty annoying and stressful to be repeatedly pulled out of these worlds so I just stopped for a while in a defensive response to the stress that it created, I think.

It could all be nonsense though, every once in a while I still get that deeply imagined world but with a bit less strength. It could be that we can't call it on demand anymore and may have to strengthen it up in order to do that.

    Quote from JayFarlander»

I am probably pretty creative love to imagine myself a fantasy world.

But sometimes it does go out of control once I couldn't stop imagining me drowning it was quite annoying then I stopped, and I was happy!

My imagination can be pretty morbid and uncontrollable at times, and I don't like it. Other than that, It's pretty creative.

As for the others are you above the teen age , in or lower?
