Stevian Villagers
Simple medieval townsfolk with familiar faces
Simple medieval townsfolk with familiar faces
I'm a big fan of the original "look and feel" of minecraft, with its simple low-resolution textures, and slightly medieval/fantasy feeling. But the villagers have always left me feeling a little sad, and so I thought I'd make a resource pack, JUST to replace the villagers with something a little more.. familiar.
The Stevian Villagers resource pack is a very light pack, which only replaces the textures on the 5 stock villager types (as well as the unused sixth "villager"). Gone are the silly noses and unibrows, replaced with friendlier, more steve-ier characters: The Farmer, the Barmaid, the Blacksmith, the Village Historian, and the Lord Mayor. Each with their own unique style and personality.

Known Issues
Reproductive issues
In their natural state, villagers appear to be sexually monomorphic, that is to say, they don't seem to have genders. Villager reproduction can occur between any two villagers, regardless of character class. The "Girls" (barmaids/butchers) as defined in this resource pack, are far outweighed by the population of "Boys" (all the other villagers) in any given village. As such, most "breeding" is statistically most likely to be between two villagers who have a texture that suggests they are both male. The only hope for fixing this would be if Mojang suddenly decided to add a second "Female" villager type. Given that all the other breedable minecraft mobs are sexually monomorphic, I suspect we'll be waiting a long time for this. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Have a laugh, and get back to mining. Life is too short to stress about things like this.
Children with beards
Villager Children don't have their own texture, so they use the texture of the adult class that they're destined to become. As such, they may appear with white hair, beards or 5-o'clock-shadow. Since there is no "Child.png" to modify, this is currently un-fixable. Assume the children are "Playing Dress-up" for a school play.

Age(18+ Only): 20
How Long Have You Played Minecraft: Since Dec. 2010, so a little over 2 years now. Coming back from a months hiatus though.
What Is(are) Your Favorite Thing(s) To Do In Minecraft: Probably messing around with redstone contraptions. I'm no redstone genius but I know my away around it. Basically if you need to make an excessively complex and extraneous machine for a simple task, I'm there.
What do you feel you can contribute to this server?: Time more then anything else I suppose. My schedule is pretty light at this time and I can be online almost every day for and hour or so. Otherwise I can't claim real specialized skill; like I said I'm good with redstone and outside of that I'm a pretty decent builder, although interiors primarily.
Do you understand that griefing/cheating will result in a no questions asked perma-ban: Yep, pretty straightforward stuff there.
Tell Us A Bit About Yourself: Not much to say really; just a uni student wasting his free time on video games, nothing surprising there

These are the items I think should be added listed with their effects plus food values.
Golden Carrots: Night vision for 4 seconds, same food and saturation as now
Glistering Melon: Heals 1/2 a heart, fills 1 food bar and 5.2 saturation
Fermented Spider Eyes: Since a corruption effect doesn't really mean anything to the player I figured just plain damage would do given that seems to be its primary use. 1/2 heart of damage, 20% of hunger effect since I can't imagine those are remotely tasty, fills 1.5 food bars and 3.2 saturation
Magma Cream: Fire resistance for 6 seconds, fills 2 food bars and 6 saturation
Sugar: Speed for 4 seconds, fills 1/2 a hunger bar and .2 saturation
Blaze Powder: Strength for 5 seconds, 40% chance of catching fire, fills 1/2 a hunger bar and .8 saturation
The rest would be non-edible, mostly for obvious reasons, nether wart, redstone and glowstone have no effect it can give on the player. Ghast tears could of course have a regeneration effect but I've always thought of them as crystals as so not really edible. I'm not sure about that though, so feel free to comment and what you think ghast tears are like and whether they should be edible or not.
As a side note I'd also like to propose the addition of a new brewing recipe; Potion of Regeneration made by Golden apples. Gold in Minecraft seems to amplify certain properties of items so when brewed those potions give of an certain effect that the plain item would not give. Both golden carrots and melons make potions, so why not the apple, and continuing with the style above the Golden apple should create a potion based of the effect given when eaten. I'd suggest it requires being brewed into a thick potion though, (glowstone base), so different base potion might actually be useful and so cost wise it remains similar to current regen potions.
Any comments, additional suggestions, and criticisms are welcome.

As someone who disliked the nerf in the snapshot I'd gladly support this. Making it easier for the servers that don't want grinders to keep them out is fine by me.
