Just ran into something odd here while trading with my villagers. I had two perfect librarians with paper trades as the last trade and all other trades unlocked but after one round of paper trades instead of refreshing them as per usual they replaced there enchanted book trades with worse, (more expensive), versions and made those their last trades. So is this a bug or some new feature I haven't heard about cause I'd like to know before trying for another perfect librarian.

    Quote from rodabon

That's sort of the point though. What it would accomplish is to create more value to moving up to higher tier items. Wood gets little use now because its so easy to move up to stone. For many people (unlike you and I) they move on to iron as soon as possible too and almost never use stone again, and then eventually move on to diamond. But why are people like you and I hanging onto using the second lowest tool material? I know I do mainly to hoard iron and because I'm willing to put up with the slightly slower mining speed and less durability. However if stone were to become less convenient as this change would make it, then I might craft a few stone picks before I head out on a mining expedition and then craft iron picks on the fly once those run out. I usually pack some iron bars anyway for emergency armor replacement.

I guess my issue would be is that push necessary, are people who hold on to stone tools for there inexpensiveness and mobility an issue that needs to be "fixed"?

Like I said earlier, wood is really gonna see about 8 more uses before being tossed. While I'm sure it appreciates those few extra seconds, its doesn't really change anything there. As for still sticking with stone tools instead of switching right off to higher tiers, well I don't see an issue there.

The stone, iron, and diamond tiers are well defined and each have their pros and cons. For example, the pickaxes; stone is cheap, quick to make and break, slow mining speed, and limited in what it can gather. Iron is a step up in speed and durability but the resource is slightly less common and requires processing. Finally there's diamond, the strongest tools that surpass the others in all attributes except the resource is far rarer. So if you don't mind the extra time, stone works for mundane clearing. You trade your time for the ease of being able to make these tools cheap and on the go. You'll still need to make iron and diamonds to get up the tech tree, you can't really ignore them, you're just choose to spend time over resources on tasks like excavation or gathering sand. I don't see a need to make these players switch over to using higher tier tools in those cases if they're willing to sacrifice that extra time. When they feel their time is more valuable then the resource, when they want a project finished faster, they'll switch over otherwise let them play in the style they see fit.

People keeping talking about this as new added difficulty and giving wood tools more purpose but does it really? Will that wood pick be any more valuable or is it going to get 11 uses instead of 3? Is that extra 12 seconds of waiting for cobble to smelt going to make stone tools that much more of a challenge or mean standing by a furnace for a bit before crafting the tool and being on your way to what you were actually doing.

I do think time can be part of a challenge in some mechanics, but here, here I don't see it. Stone tools are the cheap, dirty, on the fly tools. Quick to craft but not particularly fast or durable and they only can mine a limited set of resources. All this potential change would do is slow their crafting down. This doesn't make wood tools more appealing since wood tools are still abysmally slow and weak, and this won't stop players from moving to iron at any appreciable speed. All it would do is break stone tools a bit and I don't see any challenge added in that, just an annoyance.

Want wood tools to feel some love? Want players to spend a little more time at the base of the tech tree? Then its going to take more then adding 30 seconds to acquiring a pick that they can be done with in less then 5 minutes into the game.

So at the moment seems like the longer you are in a region the more likely you are to see mobs with powerful weapons and armor, sounds like a cool addition.

Not particular fond of this idea. As far as starting out goes this adds maybe an extra 30 to 40 seconds total before the wood tool gets tossed away and this definitely hampers some later game mobility. I generally carry stone tools around, good for clearing dirt and stone in a cave without using up my nicer picks. When one breaks its rather easy to stop, place a crafting table, and make a new one. If this was an addition, all it does it force me to wait by a furnace for a few seconds more before the next pick. Unless they're trying to curb that sort of play, and I'd don't see why they would, then this addition doesn't significantly change early survival and becomes a nuisance late game.

    Age(18+ Only): 20

How Long Have You Played Minecraft: Since Dec. 2010, so a little over 2 years now. Coming back from a months hiatus though.

What Is(are) Your Favorite Thing(s) To Do In Minecraft: Probably messing around with redstone contraptions. I'm no redstone genius but I know my away around it. Basically if you need to make an excessively complex and extraneous machine for a simple task, I'm there.

What do you feel you can contribute to this server?: Time more then anything else I suppose. My schedule is pretty light at this time and I can be online almost every day for and hour or so. Otherwise I can't claim real specialized skill; like I said I'm good with redstone and outside of that I'm a pretty decent builder, although interiors primarily.

Do you understand that griefing/cheating will result in a no questions asked perma-ban: Yep, pretty straightforward stuff there.

Tell Us A Bit About Yourself: Not much to say really; just a uni student wasting his free time on video games, nothing surprising there :P

A bit of a late update, you'd think being back home on vacation I'd have more free time to work on these textures. Anyways, as for the first texture:

    In game:

    The new fourth texture:

    In game:

I decided to remove the wavy lines by making them flow into a connected outline for the stone and I think it worked for both of them. But for the fourth texture I tried lighting the dark outline where and for the first I went darker, and I think I'm leaning towards that texture more. Also, new reference character since the last guy jumped, poor guy, he seemed so happy.

Thanks for the help and based on your feedback I'm gonna focus work on the 1st and 4th respectively. As for the reference stone, yeah it is a recolored and edited version of this Painterly dirt:
    to
They're different, but not to any point where I'm comfortable using them as my own stone texture.

I've done a little work on the 1st stone texture:

    In game:

I softened the dark edges around the light spot and darkened the light spot so it connects to the surrounding stone better and doesn't stand out as much.
As for using ctm on the first, I certainly want to use ctm for some of my blocks, but I'm still learning how to use it and I'd like to get the basic stone block down so I can work on some of the ores and other natural earth blocks. That way I should be able to post more of a actual [wip] pack pictures and not just a single block ;)

And just for some clarity, for the 4th texture, these are the spots you are talking about correct?

Bumping, though I'll add something as well. I haven't got much work done on my slate stone texture but I did try a new style of stone and I have to say I'm rather pleased with the result:

Still, I'm not quite ready to give up on my previous stone style so like I said before, any tips or tricks would be most appreciated.
