Yeah, I am planning on a carrot farm and a potato farm using that method, but still playing around with this one to see if I can fix it, once fixed I'll probably build a fourth farm for the bread, I'll build my roof for the villager and see what happens, I'll make it 2 blocks thick for testing
Well, after watching some more youtube videos I created a house with a second villager inside that is trapped and has hopper/chest system n front of him, the farmer did go inside and threw bread at the villager and then went out and harvested a few plots and replanted, so must be an inventory bug. So I decided to move on for a bit and come back to this later as I could always use a stockpile of bread for my villager breeder system, but wouldn't you know it, Thunderstorm hit the farmer and I got a witch out of the deal, After cursing up a storm for the loss, I killed the witch and started up research on lightning.
Any one know the parameters of roofs above villagers to prevent them from getting hit by lightning? Mine had a roof directly over his head, so I'm thinking maybe 3 more blocks higher and in a 5x5 overlap, is that enough? Do I need higher? does it need to be bigger? or is smaller good?
I'm thinking that this is highly unlikely, I know this isn't helpful but I don't see how Win10 edition and java edition could be compatible, or Mojang probably would have included it in the Better together patch
Try only planting one of the sapling, put it on the highest point of the island, and obviously make sure it's on dirt/grass block with nothing around it and nothing over it for a few blocks,
I'm sure you probably already know all this, but you'll have to experiment to figure out why it's not growing,
Also, what kind of tree is it, I doubt that the tree type is an issue since you got the saplings from the biome you are in, but maybe there is something someone knows about a bug with certain tree types, I know the Dark oak might be an issue if you only have 2 saplings, but again that probably isn't the issue you are having
So I created a Wheat farm with a villager(brown robed/Fisherman) to plant and harvest the wheat, I moved him over to the farm fresh so he didn't have anything in inventory, then I dropped about 12 stacked of seeds which he gobbled up and proceeded to plant, there are no doors anywhere within over 100 blocks so no village zone to mess him up, he did fine with planting, but he's not harvesting anything, I am using the Minecart with hopper on rail system under the farm which is suppose to collect all the dropped items and since he's inventory should be full in theory he should continue to pick up seeds and leave the wheat on the ground. But he doesn't harvest, I left the farm loading all night and the wheat is completely ready for harvest but he just wanders around. Has Mojang not fully implemented the auto farm feature of the brown robes? Any other ideas? Thanks
Finally found a year old youtube video that resolved my issue with signs burning up. The trick on Win 10 is Hoppers then signs one the next level and then another level of signs above that then the lava on the 3rd level above the hoppers. Apparently the air gap below the signs caused the lava to burn the signs, placing another set of signs below them removes the air block/gap/whatever and this prevents the signs from burning up, supposedly the signs have no hit box for the golems to get hung up on and so they fall thru correctly and stand with only their heads in the lava thus not causing the loss of ingots in the lava. Much thanks to JackFrostMiner of YouTube for this video, testing it out now and working, just double checking the hit box of the signs before I call this iron farm completed
Playing on Win 10 edition and finally got my villager breeder working correctly and then built my iron farm.
It's working correctly except for one issue, the golems fall down into the lava nice and proper but they don't drop thru and past the ladders I am using to hold the lava up, they get hung up on the top of the ladders, so I tried signs, those burned up from the lava, so I tried trap doors and the iron golems quite often again get hung up on the top of the trap doors, yes the trap doors are open, I'd say it's about 50/50 on them falling thru to the correct spot of the kill zone. Not sure what else to try except maybe pistons just above the lava on all for sides to try and bump the golem into the center so he'll drop the rest of the way
Well, here's the update again I'm on Windows 10 edition so that's got to be something they haven't put into the game or decided they consider an exploit so they fixed it, no sure
In addition to the several experimental portals I created already I created a portal box of 18 portals all 20x20, with gaps and trap doors, lit them all and waited 15 minutes, I have zero pigmen spawns
So I guess I go to the nether and try it out there, not sure I fully understand the spawning platforms in the nether, as I understand it they need to be built up at the top level in the nether, is this correct? Does lighting effect spawn rates, Can I light the place up and still get the same spawn rates?
I'll probably start with a 32x32 area with a safe house in the middle for my test build
maybe it's something they've fixed, but Pigmen do still spawn from the portals in Overworld, Right?
Running Windows 10 edition version 1.0.8 not sure what that matches up to on the regular versions
Obsidian farming doesn't bother me if it's gonna work
Question, does the pigmen spawn check refer to the number of portal blocks in the portal that it's in or just the portal blocks directly in line above the bottom spawn block or all portal blocks in an area?
if it's all portal blocks in an area then it would be more benefical to have lots of little portals as that creates more spawn spots doing checks, granted that would increase the obsidian cost greatly of course
I just finished clear cutting and leveling out a big area in preparation for building some farms, I got it all bordered off and well lit to prevent all but enderman from spawning within this area, the area is quite large. All of the ground is grass, clear of weeds and flowers and torches every 5 blocks.
So far it's been working fine to prevent mobs from appearing and even endermen have only spawned once that I know of but he might have spawned elsewhere and teleported in.
My problem is the animals that are spawning thru out this area, I don't have animals spawning is several of my main areas but they do spawn in this new large area, is there a way to prevent them from spawning here?
Going to build some wheat farms and don't want them trampling the wheat
See, I thought I was right on the fence gates, yet they opened 5 fence gates and walked right out of my building, the fence gates were attached to additional fence posts so there weren't any gaps
I thought about using blocks but when breeding the baby villagers would be able to jump up on and though the gap, but they can't jump over a fence
Maybe I'll just use a regular fence post and destroy it and replace it when I need to go in and out

So in addition to pigman portals not working at all, Zero spawns
and issues with animals spawning inside my fenced farming areas dispite making a hole in the ground and putting a bunch of chickens
Now I have a problem getting my farmer to farm,
Yes he is brown robe, I've tried a farmer and a shepard, they both harvest about 20 blocks of wheat and then stop
they don't plant new crops, they leave the seeds and take the wheat
I created the last farmer from a fresh breeding, then segregated him from the adults
once he grew to adult I dropped several seeds at his feet, he was penned in so couldn't move, he refused to pick up the seeds
couldn't figure out any other way to fill his inventory, finally I just let him go into the farm and he harvested about 20 blocks and then stopped
Playing on the PC, windows 10 edition no mods all classic survival mode, no cheats
Does anyone know what version 1.0.8 is equivalent to on a regular server, 1.11? 1.10? etc
Wondering if this version just hasn't caught up to the rest of the platforms

well, after a bunch of experimenting and more video watching I'm gonna give up on the pigman farm
Don't think the windows 10 version of Minecraft works for this

Gonna try some more experiments

Well, back to the experiment

So I want to build a pigman farm in survival mode at my base NOT in the nether
I watched a couple videos and noted the max size of 20x20
Nothing was mentioned about lighting or above or below surface level
so I went into creative mode on a separate world to experiment
I created a flat world, normal difficulty no cheats and regular day cycles, then built a 20x20 portal and lit it
No pigman, yes the portal is active I went thru it and back, I moved away from the portal for a while and came back still nothing
Started killing all mobs in the area thinking maybe they were capped
the base of the portal is on the ground level, so I tried one up off the ground but still nothing
Any ideas what I missed in my research?
Oh and yes other mobs neutral and hostile type mobs are spawning

Thank you, I'll try out the trapdoor idea
