This concept would completely change the face of minecraft and I don't think it belongs in vanilla but it might make a good mod.

    Many have agreed with that.

To be perfectly honest, I love the Aether. I can see where you're going with this, though, with a cold/hot thing for the Skyworld/Nether, as opposed to Valhalla/Hell... Anyway, my suggestion - and i dont know if I'm the first person to suggest this: can't the Arctic Isles be a biome of the Aether?

Also, I'll probably fail, but if you want I can try to make models of some of your mobs and stuff:P

I don't know if it'd work well, the Isles have a few different biomes and a different feel from the Aether IMO.

    Quote from ChildofSolitude

Im sorry, but i don't believe i agree with this completly. I think that the sky worlds should just be floating islands in the normal overworld. The new mobs are ok, but i don't think that any new ores are required. But this is a nice thing, could make a mod that i would download.

But then it wouldn't be a Sky World if it were just biomes in the Overworld. I get what you're saying though but there are some problems with that as far as the physics of Minecraft go. Blocks above other blocks cast shadows, so the ground below floating islands would cast large areas of shadows below, resulting in many mobs spawning. There's also the fact of the height limit, which would make it so you can't build that big of structures on the floating islands.

However, when it's another dimension you could have a massive amount of space above and below the islands, no large shadows, and you can just have it where you go to the highest point of the Overworld when you fall through the Sky Dimension.

But that's just my opinion on the negatives of it.

    Quote from Wiimaster

This would be really cool if you gave it a Nordic/viking feel.

That's what I tried to do with the Swedish names of ores and the Ice Giants, which were in Norse Mythology.

    Quote from Frankosaurus

I'm kind of getting better at modeling (not programming) mobs so I could help you with that :) . This looks like a great idea but why ice? I'm not really atracted to the ice thingy and if possible could you tell me what ice should symbolizes? If you could answer me that then I'll gladly help

It's basically to counter the lava that's so common in the Nether. Ice and water are as close to the opposite of obsidian and lava as you can get.

    Quote from TobiNano

This is almost like Aether mod :)

It is similar in many ways.

ii would think that instead of making a portal, when you kill the ender dragon, during the animation when it dies, the sky lightens up, endermen vanish, and a portal appears. islands shimmer into existance around the end island. however, the light starts, so you may not go over there at the moment. when you go back to the overworld, you have 14 blocks, required to make the portal. when you go through it, you are on an island close to the end. the end is now shrouded in darkness, like a bubble. you may go back in, and fight endermen again. maybe the dragon? then leave anything else.

I don't know, I feel there is more of a point to it if it leads up to the End just like the Overworld-Nether route.

    Quote from flying_penguin

I have one suggestion considering the flurry mob. I thought that seeing as they attack in mobs and they drop Nektar upon death, I felt like you would end up with too much Nektar. This could probably be fixed by having them drop nektar nuggets the same way zombie pigmen drop gold nuggets.

I'll consider this, maybe I should make it so they have about a 10-20% chance of dropping Nektar.

    Quote from 6359_

LOL vit means White, mark means Ground sten means stone and nektar means nectar in swedish! I am a swede so I know.

Yeah, I picked Swedish because it sounds like fictional names to those who don't know a word of it but for those who know it they have meaning.

I'm not Swedish but I know a couple of words in most of the bigger European languages.

Some names i came up with
    The Frozen Isles
    Thien De Ice
Aether (JK, basically what it is)
    The Skylands

The name the Isles has kind of grown on me and I don't think I'm going to change it.

At least nto any time soon (although Thien De Ice sounds pretty awesome).

    Quote from levininja

I don't think this should be implemented verbatim, but it would be awesome if some kind of actual sky dimension was implemented; I agree.

I think a lot of people can agree on that, and I understand your opinion.

I don't know, clockwork security spiders has already been done in Skyrim. I do think that a clockwork creature is a good idea for a Mazeworld mob, just not a spider.

Who cares if it was in Skyrim.

But if it has to be something else I say it should be something else that's already in game like Skeletons or Zombies. I just thought spiders would be really cool like that.

Good idea, just refine your post a bit! Also, I don't think you should change the snow golem, it's fine as a snowman, not a crazy behemoth.

How do you think I should refine my post?

And the snow golem artwork was just concept art somebody made that I thought was pretty cool looking. I don't think snow golems need to change.

    Quote from LMeire

You could call it "Jotunheim" That's the plane where giants lived in Norse mythology.

I'm back after a few months of doing nothing of any importance.

I was trying to come up with ideas for another dimension but then I realized that the ones we have now (that is including this one) don't have enough variety or content to justify a whole new one so I think it should be added to the Isles.

Ideas from my Lapus Dimension: (modified for the Isles)
Some things I was thinking of were giant ghast-like enemies that would shoot balls of water at you. when they miss they just form source blocks of water but when they hit you end up in a two by two by four area of water completely surrounded by ice. You have to break out of it before you drown. There would be a cool down time of fifteen seconds between each hit by the enemy and a ten second cool down time for each miss. I think this enemy should be called the Gyser and drop Nektar and, very rarely, Vit.

A concept I found interesting was the idea of one block thick walkways with nothing below it but the Void. Instead of that there would be stone pathways at the top thirty blocks for the Isles. A stairway or ladder made by the would be the most common way to get up to it but an easier alternative for miners would be the Flying Boat. This area (I think it should be named the Walkways) is the only place where Gysers are common. There are also building that contain portals to the Mazeworld (if you don't know what the Mazeworld suggestion is I am also a part of that) and have messages (on signs and notes) that state that the inhabitants of the Mazeworld left their home to go to the Isles where they met their end because of the hostile enviroment.

Another idea would be blue slimes. They're small but strong and will try to push you off of the Walkways (which is the only place they spawn). They can jump up to twenty blocks in between walkways but will not jump unless you are at least five blocks away.

If you don't like these ideas tell me so.

    Hi, I'm back once more!

It's true that hunger could be an issue, but only for the careless who go without supplies. You'd have to bring food with you, or bring seeds to farm more food there. Or spawn some chickens with eggs and raise them for meat.

There could also be garden biomes like GTG suggests, perhaps in a biome filled with manicured lawns, carefully landscaped hills, and soaring glass greenhouses.

Perhaps the garden biomes can show a bit more signs of decay though than the rest of Mazeworld to maintain the eerie feeling. It can have mossy stone brick, vines, etc. That way it'll feel less like an active botanical garden and more like the abandoned castle garden in Laputa (the same film that inspired Minecraft's iron golems).

Perhaps there could be terrace farming and greenhouses as wall as castle gardens.

For the farms and greenhouses the place would be overgrown with plants (like melons and wheat) to keep yourself from starving.

    Quote from EyeOfTheDaev

Okay... here's a look at what I've ended up with. In all honesty it's the most impressive and time consuming thing I've built in a long time. (well, probably since that Redpower clock I made a few months ago, but that was more technical than architectural skill...).
    http://imgur.com/a/D7avS#0
I tried to incorporate a few different ideas bounced around into this. Classical arcades, ziggurats, aqueducts, walkways (which I ended up making into crazy maze shapes because it looks cool). a library (which is a maze inside, but it's hard to get a good shot of that), and a small garden... which ended up on top of the library because the roof looked really bare and boring (I actually really like how that turned out. Reminds me of that one Ravnica forest). The ziggurats were originally made of stone brick, but I changed it to red brick as an homage to the brick ziggurats that used to spawn rarely in Minecraft way back when. And of course I put in the upside down tower. It looks really imposing when you're directly underneath it - perhaps it could be some sort of dungeon building or something?

This of course would be part of the topmost level - I can imagine layers upon layers of labyrinth underneath this (perhaps getting more dangerous, but more rewarding, the farther you delve into it?). I of course didn't bother making another maze layer, as it would be impossible to show.

Shame I neglected to take any night shots. I had partially lit it up to give it a sort of twilight feel...

    Amazing picture.

    This idea is still incredible.

And I have come up with another mob that could be put into it:

A thin, golden, robotic spider with a knob on top that spun as if it were run by clockwork; I think the Clockwork Spider is an appropriate name. They would make an erie ticking noise and drop golden bars. They would travel in small groups, surround the player, and be a decent threat.

There could be some background notes of them having been security created by the former inhabitants of the Mazeworld.

Hm....here's a crazy idea, and probably a bad one, but what if Iron Golems were the way of getting to Mazeworld? If Mazeworld does have golems perhaps that could be where Iron Golems originally come from.

You'd right click on an iron golem with a specific item, and it'd banish you to Mazeworld. This idea just came to me, so I'm not sure what the item is, and whether it'd be consumed or be reusable.

You'd appear in a random spot in Mazeworld within a certain range of your earth coordinates, without generating a portal or anything. If there's an iron golem in that area though you'd always appear right next to it. If there's more than one iron golem you'd appear next to the one closest to you.

Since there are no villagers in Mazeworld no new iron golems would spawn there, but they would very infrequently appear with the chunk. But you could always build iron golems yourself in order to fix your teleport position.

Returning back to earth would work the same way. It'd drop you off in a random spot, unless there's an iron golem already there, in which case you'd appear next to it.

Mobile portal mobs would be kind of fun right? Definitely would give you a could reason to find villages, since iron golems are really expensive to build and free ones are a cheaper way of accessing Mazeworld. And I kind of like potentially arriving without way back (unless you bring iron to build a golem) so you have to explore and find a golem to return you home.

This wouldn't have to interfere with the iron golem's duties either, since it could act the same except when it banishes you.

    Interesting idea.
I like the idea of the iron golems being linked to, or from, the Mazeworld (It seems so fitting), I am however not sure that they should be the way to the Mazeworld.

Perhaps, if we are still going with the idea of a mossy cobblestone spire with a jukebox playing music, an iron golem would have to be nearby, looks at you, and then you are teleported to the Mazeworld.

I like the base 'day-night-grey' concept, but Mazeworld/Result/whatever it's being called now is more about passive danger than all-out enemy siege. These are my suggestions on how it could be changed:
1.) Night should be 3 light. This is simply aesthetic, Light level 2 is just too dark IMO.

2.) 'Grey' should replace day, as I think that it'll just be a bit more eerie to have no sun during day.

3.) As a result of the 'Grey' being the light time, the light should be increased to about 11. Not enough for, say, a spawned zombie to burn, but enough to see quite clearly.

4.) The enemy mobs don't really just spawn anywhere, like zombies. So that part is kinda null. Although, I would like if Shades spawned during night.

5.) Lastly, the cycle should have a minimum and maximum time. Like, I wouldn't like if 'day' lasted only a minute, then night came for 20 minutes. How about 5 minutes minimum and 10 minutes max?

All in all, aside from the 'constant white sky w/ 10 light level' idea, this is the best for time in the Mazeworld/Result/whatever it's being called now.

I think that it would be far more erie if the sky was always just grey, no night, no day, just a forever grey sky.

But that would ruin the purpose of a dream world.

Overpowered? Well, I guess the rare ores would have to be a tad less common. Anyway, you would need an Iron pickaxe to mine most of these ores, and I hardly can find iron, so ores would be useless to me.

But, I said that you need to mix Ice Powder and Blaze Powder together with an Ender Pearl to make an Eye of Ender, which means you DO need to go to The Nether.

And yes, I was thinking about cheating, so no blocks can be placed inside a temple.

What you mean as a tool that breaks bedrock?

    Please explain better.

Iron is pretty common as of Beta 1.8.

I don't know about adding an extra step, that would annoy some.

I mean that you have a random chance of going there.

What's wrong with making a portal and then going back and forth? Its worked well enough so far.

Going there in your sleep with whatever you had brought to sleep and then having to do get diamond stuff to leave doesn't sound like a good idea IMO.
