Someone tell Jeb to frickin chill with updates. my home server was just put out of business thanks to his useless meanderings with insisting to keep trying to force a sandbox game into the mold of an RPG. It will never work and he is quite frankly ruining Minecraft. I want 1.7.3 back thank you very much.
I paid for a scooter, and someone gave me a sports car... that can easily transform into a scooter. *Harumph*

Also, there was some water that I landscaped over before. I decided it would be fun to have a bridge leading up to the building, so I exposed the water again and expanded it to the ocean.
I'm not satisfied with the bridge yet. Originally, I copied the pillars from the building, but that looked silly. I'm still working on it.

Haha. That happens to me all of the time. I put in hours of prep, look up and see I'm not anywhere near done, and jump to the next step.

01. Stand by the portal in your home.
02. Hit F3.
03. Write down the X coordinate and the Z coordinate. (These are your overworld portal coordinates.)
04. Divide both the X and the Z by 8 and write them down. (These will be your nether portal coordinates.)
05. Stand by the portal in your friend's home.
06. Hit F3.
07. Write down the X coordinate and the Z coordinate. (These are your friend's overworld portal coordinates.)
08. Divide both the X and the Z by 8 and write them down. (These will be your friend's nether portal coordinates.)
09. Go to the nether.
10. Hit F3.
11. Build a portal at the coordinates you got for Step 4
12. Build a portal at the coordinates you got for Step 8
You will likely have to build a platform or dig into netherrack to get to the exact spot.

I did about a week of work on it earlier in the summer and a few days at the beginning of the month. Finding enough time to get much done is hard.

Work has been a little slow because I kept running out of stone. I decided to try my hand at hopper and make a little automated smelter for myself. I got a little carried away.
I assume there's a simpler way to do this, but I had fun.

I think it looks nice, I'd personally try to break up the visuals a little by breaking up the large blank walls. It's too bad we don't have carpets that go on walls. Can you punch out some windows? Is the wall thick enough to raise and lower different parts of it?

In the meantime, we recently had a new person join our server who reignited my interest. I always imagined having a large building where we could display everything from basic redstone circuitry to complex mechanisms. Sort of an educational building for those of us that need to see how these kinds of things work first hand. Now that we have our redstone expert, I decided to jump back on and build a structure for him to teach in.
I've started sketching out my buildings in dirt first to get an idea of what the end result is going to look like. Dirt is cheap and easy to move around. These aren't final design choices, but a very basic outline to start from.
The main structure you see is just the entry. The large wall behind it will stretch pretty far in either direction and make up the outermost walls of the first two halls. These halls will house the learning/demonstration areas.
On my last build I spent a lot of my energy early on laying out the framework. As I'm already very satisfied with this entryway, I decided to start in on the details right away to keep myself interested.
If anyone has any input on colors, materials, details, or whatever, I'm always open to suggestions. For example, I'm not sure I like how the roof sits on the structure.
I have a way I want it to look in my head, but I'm always blown away at the little details other people on here add to their builds that add so much depth.

Haha! That'll do.

Do you have other larger builds like this? I'm always interested in see how other builders pull off stuff that I never thought could work.

Right now I'm doing a fairly large build with obsidian. I'm building the whole thing out of dirt first so I won't have to spend hours tearing down obsidian walls.

If you can't say anything without being a jerk, maybe it's best not to say anything.

Thanks. I'm still not 100% sure what it's going to look like against the stone colored bulk of the building, but I think I'm just going to do it and see at this point.
Hmm, I'm not sure what you're referring to. There are two circles stacked pretty close on the one end, one marking the roof of the basement and the other marking the floor of the main level.
